Birth story:

My c-section was scheduled for 08h00 on 31 July 2009. The doctor didn't want to take any chances with a normal delivery, since I am rather small. I gave birth in a small private hospital and an epidural wasn't even an option, so I went with the c-section.

My mother came on 30 July to be here for the birth. We had to be at the hospital at 06h00 the next morning. We left the house at about 04h30 and that was just about when I got my first contraction! I thought it was my imagination at first, but they were 6 minutes apart and growing stronger. By the time we got to the hospital, they were 4 minutes apart. However, my doctor still said it's best to do the c-section.

They gave me a catheter, which was terrible! It didn't hurt, but it was rather embarassing. And then they gave me something to drink that made me feel fuzzy. Hubby and my mom came to sit with me and at about 07h40 I got wheeled into the theater. DH got scrubbed and dressed while they did the spinal block. That wasn't painfull at all. I was still waiting for the pain to come, when my legs lost all feeling.

They gave hubby a chair to sit at my head. I was rather worried about him, since he hates blood. However, he really surprised me! When one of the doctor's said the head is out, he got up and looked! I asked if she had hair and he said: "Yes, lots!".

When she was out, they showed her to me and it was love at first sight! They put her on a special table next to me, while they checked the vital signs and cut the umbelical cord. She gave us a fright since she wouldn't really cry, but then they smacked her foot and she gave a good cry.

The recovery was okay. The day of the c-section, I wasn't allowed to get up. They brought Sumarie to feed and then they wanted to take her again, but I wouldn't let them. She slept on my chest the 1st night. I didn't sleep much, since I kept checking if she was breathing. The next day I had to get up. It was rather hard at 1st but the more I moved around the better it got. After about a week, it's a lot better and you start feeling normal again.

I wouldn't say it's a nice feeling, but in the end it's worth it. I love my dd so much, I wouldn't change a thing!
