Carson was born the morning of December 13th by scheduled C-section due to being breech. The surgery went well!

My c-section went well. I did a lot of research on the external version and there was too many risks with it. I always say "everything happens for a reason"....so when I found out that I was going to possibly have a c-section I was bumbed b/c my sister in law was due and she had her baby naturally. So I had to mentally prepair myself for it and make sure that I was okay with having a c-section. LOTS of ladies have them! Some do really well and others not so good....I think it's all in mindset - I am a worker, a busybody, a go getter....and I wasn't going to let a c-section slow me down! I was having an ultrasound every week from 34 weeks on, and non-stress tests (NST's) twice a week, up until delivery. We went in to the hospital the morning of Dec. 13th at 5 am to have our last ultrasound to confirm baby was still breech. Which I knew he was (we didn't find out the sex before delivery). So then we went up to the O.B. and took all or our things up to my room and they got me changed and an IV started. They gave me 2 bags of fluid. Did another NST and I was having contractions 5 min. apart!! Then I was wheeled down to the surgery waiting area. I went to the bathroom (and noticed blood) - I was loosing my plug. They said I would have had him that day anyways! Anywho, then they rolled me into the O.R. and that's when I fell apart...I started crying because I was soooo scared! They sat me up on a table and I tried to relax and calm myself down as much as possible. They told me to crouch over and grab onto a staff's shoulder/arm. They put the needle in - I only felt a little poke!!! I had my wisdom teeth pulled and those needles hurt worse I'm tellin ya! So after they got the spinal block done, I had to lay down quickly and my feet instantly got warm and tingly. Then they moved me to the OR table and started to scrub my belly up. They put up the curtain, and brought my husband in. They then starting pinching my belly to see if I could feel anything - nada - nothing at all. So then they started. It was cold in the room, but the mood of the OR staff was great. We were taking bets on what the baby was and how big it was going to be....funny thing is, my guess was a boy - which I though all along, and was going to be 7 lbs. 3 oz. I hit it dead on the nail!!! I didn't lose my breath at all during the surgery...I guess that happens when their pulling the baby out of you. I just tried to stay as calm and as POSITIVE as I could be. When the surgeon had his hand in me trying to get the baby out, my body was rocking and moving around alot and I kind was like "what's going on"! But the anesteologist was at my head and was telling me what was going on the whole proceedure. He also had music playing from his IPOD which was cool too! Then they pulled him out, held him up, my husband stood up and looked and they said "it's a boy!". Then they brought him over to my right to the warmer and to my Dr. and they started to dry him off and look him over - I instantly started crying!!! He had red hair and was sooo tiny! It was such and emotional rush that came over me! Totally undescribable! Then my Dr. took him and my husband up to my OB room while I was cleaned up - they littlerally spray your uterus out - and stitched me up...which took about 45 minutes. From the time surgery started at 7:30, Carson was born at 7:36, and I was in recovery at 8:15. Now in the recovery room is where you want to save all your willpower! As soon as I could wiggle my toes they said I could go up to my OB room (to see my BABY!)...so I tried with all my might and wiggled my toes and moved my legs a little bit too! So they took me upstairs and the rest is history. I was up and walking around that night (slowly!)... they said I was a pretty determined woman and were shocked at how quickly I was recovering! We stayed in the hospital for 4 days. If you have a c-section, keep up on your pain meds....they help alot. When I got home, for the first week I took them regularly...but after that, I managed the pain and only took them when needed....I have 3/4 of the bottle (of 100 pills) left. I bled for a month. It wasn't heavy, but wasn't light either. And since they clean you out, unlike a natural birth where the body has to clean itself out, the bleeding is a little lighter and may not last as long. I also got my period when my baby was 5 weeks....so it was right on schedule (and has been since). Mind you, this is all from my experience/perspective, and my be totally different for you. But all in all, even though I had a c-section, I don't feel like I was cheated in the "delivering" department - I grew the baby for 9 long months, and I ended up with what every other woman has - a newborn baby that was healthy, which is what I prayed for all along. I hope that everything works out for you and don't fear a c-section....their great....I'm not going to try a VBAC w/my next one because my c-section went great! Take care and if you have any questions, let me know!
