Benjamin-James`s birthstory

Went to hospital on Thursday for induction. About 7 pm the doctor checked me & I was still 3cm dilated (as I was on Tuesday) but very soft, he put in some gel. After that my hubby & I went for a walk. I felt something but it was just like strong Braxton Hicks they actually stopped me walking a couple of times but they were not too bad. After he left I went to bed & they eased a little. At 2am the doctor came in & checked me again & there was no change with my dialation so he put in more gel. Almost instantly I felt contractions. They had me on the monitor & the contractions were pretty much straight after each other but again not that painful. The nurse gave me some panadol & said try & sleep. The pains sort of meshed into one big pain which felt like period cramping. I layed there for hours playing solitaire on my phone (couldn`t sleep!!!) It was 5am when I felt the smallest trickle in my pants. I jumped out of bed so fast & then a lot more came out. I stood there for a minute not sure whether to call the nurse or go to the bathroom. I called the nurse & told her my water had just broken & she got me a new pad & took my old one to test it, but when she took it she said no need to test definately waters broke. It was clear thank goodness. I said should I call my hubby she said you can if you want but tell him to make his way in til about 6ish. I told him & he said he will have a shower & make his way. He asked if he should call my mum & I said wait til we see what is happening but he said something is happening so he was gunna call her anyway. I got up to start packing my things when a pain hit. OMG. This is not going to be fun, I thought, when another one came straight after. The nurse came in & looked at me Are you having pains? she asked I couldn`t talk she left I got my phone & barely managing to message Steve the word hurry. The nurse came back & said they will wait for hubby & make our way to birthing unit, but the pains were coming so fast the nurse said we cant wait he will find us. As we left the ward we ran into steve running up the stairs. We got to the room & they put me on the bed, they were already gowning up & pulling the baby crib over. The pain was so bad that i was actually yelling. I asked for drugs but the baby was crowning. My mum arrived thank goodness Steve called her. The doctor told me to use the gas which i did for a bit (if anything it shut me up) but it was good just to bite on. I said I wanted to push & they said i could if i wanted to. I started pushing & they wanted to take the gas away. I wouldn`t let them when they tried to take it from my mouth I bite down on it & even swore at a nurse when she tried to take it. Steve said why cant she just have it & they said they wanted me to start strong pushing & i could break my teeth but i still wouldn`t let them have it. I had been pushing for a while now I could feel nothing was happening in between contractions I kept asking I am pushing really hard why isn`t he coming out. They said he is just stuck & i have to push him out. When he FINALLY starting coming out they could see what had happened. Instead of the baby crowning at the top of his head he had crown to the side above his ear which was a lot harder to push out. I remembered the midwife saying something about not pushing as the head comes out cause you can tear (which i did with my daughter & DID NOT WANT AGAIN) so i kept saying what do you want me to do. They said breathe & a little push, breathe & a little push. I kept doing it & could feel something happening down there. I thought he was crowning but they said OK the forehead is out now gently push the chin out. I didn`t know I was that far. Soon enough he was out on on my tummy. I remember the biggest feeling of relief sweep over me. 8:02am 8 pounds 52cm long. Steve cut the cord & they took him for observation. I was on insulin so I knew they had to check him after birth but they were whispering & taking a while. One of the doctors asked Steve if there was any muscular problems in our families. I looked over & saw a doctor pick up his arm & drop it, there was no tension at all. Why isn`t he crying i asked. Next minute the room filled with people. I went to get up & a midwife came over & said there is nothing to worry about baby`s heart rate is excellent & he is nice & pink. They are concerned that he hasn`t cried or had any response. They had one of the face mask pumps on him. They were all talking, they brought him over so i could say goodbye as they wanted to take him to newborn care. Steve went with them. I had a bite to eat & a shower & they wheeled me to him. There were all these tubes coming out of him but as we got near I could see he was kicking & hear he was crying. He spent 2 days there & they never found out what made him do that but he is absolutely perfect now & feeding like a champ.
