Contessa-Rose`s birthstory
We went in on Tuesday morning to see our Dr. & make sure the induction scheduled for Wednesday was still a go. She checked my cervix and I was still only a finger tip dilated & not as soft as she wanted me to be for the induction. So, then she check on Tess. I immediately began to worry as I noticed her demeaner change a bit. She said that she didn`t like how low the baby`s HR was and wanted me to sit on the monitor for a half hour. So, I sent my husband off to pick up lunch to bring home as I figured I might be there for a little while and even though I was a little worried I thought everything was probably just fine and that I would have a chance to go home & finish up a few things before I was admitted for the induction. Boy, was I wrong! After a few minutes on the monitor I knew something was definitely throwing up some red flags! A few minutes later the nurse came in to explain to me that the baby`s base line HR was too low (106) and that they wanted me admitted to the hospital immediately for prolonged monitoring. So, off I went by myself over to L&D. I called my husband and updated him. Of course he was freaking out! He took our daughter home to drop her off with my Mom & pick up our stuff & immediately came over to L&D. By the time he got her I was already in my hospital attire ( beautiful stuff) & on the monitor. Though the base line was still a little lower the situation seemed to improve right away. I had to stay on the monitor for the rest of the day, but it was no longer an emergency. They decided to keep me there since I was supposed to be in later that night anyway to begin the cath induction. The Dr. came in around 8:00 p.m. & inserted the foley cath into my cervix. It was uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I had to sleep with it inside of me which was a little awkward, but they gave me some sleeping medicine which definitely helped ALOT!!! The next morning my Dr. was in around 7:30 a.m. to check me and I was already between 3 & 4 cm dilated! They started the pitocin, IV fluids and my IV antibiotic to get things rolling. As soon as the pit drip started my contractions began! After only an hour on the pit I was ready for my epidural. It was by far the easiest epidural I have had and though uncomfortable I was never in any severe pain which hadn`t been my experience previousely. The Dr. then came in and broke my water and I expected things to progress quickly from there. But... after 3 hours I was still only 4 cm. Then the baby`s HR started decelerating with every contraction. Things were starting to get hectic in there. The Dr. came in and was monitoring things. I was very nervous that I was going to end up with a c-section. It was intense to say the least. Then I started having lots of pain with every contraction. I was managing the pain well on my own and then the nurse suggested that we call anesthesia to up the medicine. I was still only a 5 at this point. The Anesthesiologist came in and gave me some more meds, but it never ended up helping. The pain was already ahead of me and I started going through transition. At this point I was more worried about the baby and getting her out since she was still decelerating. It became clear that there was a cord issue at that point. I had about 90 minutes of severe pain but was able to get through each contraction and stay in control. I was pretty proud of myself! At about 3:00 p.m. the Dr. came back in to check me out and said that I was ready to push. I actually didn`t feel that I was ready b/c I didn`t have the same pressure that I had experienced with my other children. That ended up also being part of the cord issue. I only had to push for 10 minutes and was able to give birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl! The cord was completely wrapped around her body in a figure 8 then wrapped around her neck. The Dr. said that God must have been watching over her b/c if she was any bigger I would not have been able to push her out with the cord that way. She was my smallest baby by over 2lbs! Now that is a miracle. Contessa Rose weighed only 6 lbs, 5 oz and is the most beautiful, amazing little angel! We are so blessed! She is settling in at home with her 2 brothers, sister, her Daddy and me and we could not be happier!
