baby[bump]mama - Friday, 19 June so after some thinking, i have decided to change my EDD on here to Feb. 2, 2010. I have accepted that my baby measures smaller than what it should, but I have meet other ladies on this site whose lil ones have measured small. I am a very subborn person, so I think that is why it was hard for me to accept it. But I will get over it. Take care ladies, I hope you all have a safe and joyful weekend!

butterblocksmom - Friday, 19 June OK...it\'s a long one though :) Hopefully it pastes well:
Ok, feel free to message me privately if you don\'t feel comfortable talking in the group...and for those of you who have recently given birth to number 2, I won\'t be offended if I don\'t hear from you!
JJ is 15 months old. At daycare he sleeps on a little cot that sits on the floor. The crib that we have for him at home is a convertible, but I have not converted it yet. He has not figured out he can climb out of it yet (thank god) but seeing as we have baby number 2 coming and we are moving into a new place, I have a few questions for you veterans....JJ will be 19 months old when baby #2 is here. I plan on leaving baby in the bassinette in our room until he is at least three months, at which point in time JJ will be almost 2 years old.
1) Convertible cribs - do you like them? 2) Convertible cribs - do they take single mattresses or twin? We have an extra EXTRA bed at home so I am wondering if this matress will fit the convertible crib. 3) Should I transition JJ to a toddler bed now? Or even just a mattress that sits on the floor? Is he too young? 4) For baby number 2 should I buy another convertible crib? 5) I bought our last crib from e-children and am not that excited about it. It was about $700. Any you would suggest that would be better?
So many questions over one small silly thing! I just don\'t want to have to buy (and move) more furniture than necessary and you all know with cribs from e-children, you have to order it 3-4 months in advance..... ******* Hey Karyn! I feel you on the crib \'debate\'. When is the right time to transition out of the crib!?? well... With our first guy, he was not able to escape the crib at all (mainly because he\'s not that much of a gymnast) and we actually kept him in the crib that was a convertable style (from e-children) until he was almost 3!! (Crazy i know!!) but he was contained and safe and he didn\'t mind AT ALL even though he was on a cot at day-care also. It\'s entirely up to you when you want to move him out of the crib and convert to a day-bed/toddler bed...but 2 years old sounds fine. He\'ll still use the crib matress untill you are ready to convert it to a full DOUBLE bed. (you\'ll have to get a double mattress when that day comes!) At the end of the day I DO think the convertible cribs are great (i\'m a fan anyway). YES they are expensive but you are actually getting 3 beds out of one frame. I went to e-children and bought the exact same crib in white for bambino# 2. I like that you can lower the mattress (really low) and they can\'t get out unless they are REALLY agile. Also when considering moving JJ into the toddler bed, remember that he will now have access to the house!....is he going to be ready for that? A lot of people use baby gates on the bedroom door and baby-rails on the toddler bed. BUT what is the point of that? just keep them in a crib...wouldn\'t it be easier?!?! I finally broke down and converted the crib to a toddler bed when kid #1 was potty trained and needed access to the bathroom...he also was also almost 3 yrs old then....and could UNDERSTAND when we told him to STAY in bed and not get out!!! the convertible cribs have worked quite well for us. Just my opinion!!! ******* Here\'s what we did for Philip/Patrick.... We switched Philip over to a single bed just before his 2nd birthday last summer. Patrick was born in Nov and we wanted enough time to get Philip settled in his new bed before Patrick arrived. We\'re glad we had 4 months to \"train\" Philip in his new bed....we needed it! For about the first month or so, Philip would get out of his bed a bagillion times before he\'d fall asleep, run to the door and bang on it until we\'d come (we have one of those door handle lock things on his side so he can\'t come out). Philip\'s crib is a convertible as well, but since we had #2 coming, we needed to keep the crib as a crib and made the decision to get Philip a real bed, not a toddler bed. In fact, we\'ve never \"converted the crib\" it\'s stayed a crib since day 1. A bunch of my friends had said not to waste the money on a toddler bed as they only get used for so long cause they\'re sooooo tiny. We hunted around for a single bed (captain\'s style) that wasn\'t too high off the ground and reinforced it with one of those bed gate things (the other side of the bed is against the wall). The bed is pretty cool and will most likely last as long as Philip is living at home (bang for our bucks). So far, things have worked out really well with this set up. We\'ll convert the crib for Patrick and will most likely switch it to our guest room once Patrick grows out of the toddler bed stage as the bed then converts to a double bed after that, but it won\'t be \"cool\" enough for a young little boy who will most likely want something as \"cool\" as his brother\'s bed! For JJ, I\'d consider the matress on the floor idea for now, see how it works. He\'s a good sleeper so he might not be so inclined to run around his room at night and if he does want to run around, he\'s not that far from the floor! Those convertable cribs have their own size of mattress, so maybe you could use the single/twin mattress for JJ now and then when he\'s a bit bigger, you could buy the frame to go with his mattress. He\'s had some good bed training at daycare and will probably transition quite nicely to a bed or mattress at home. I\'d give it a shot, worst case senario is that you can always put him back into his crib for a few more months and then try again when he\'s a bit bigger. With all that said and done, Patrick\'s still sleeping with me and has never even slept in the hand-me-down convertible crib!! Fun times, oh, fun times! ****** Ah my dear Karyn you make me laugh - you worry WAY too much. Anywys I just looked at the picture of JJ\'s crib, it will use a double matress i believe. That being said, you may be able to convert it to a \"toddler day bed\" as well. this is nice, as you use the same matress as what is in the crib now, but it only has a small wall to keep him from falling out!! But if JJ is not trying to crawl out of his crib yet, keep him contained girl!! I cant remember if he goes to bed easily or not but I know cooper has thankfullt forgotten he can get out of the crib and that is good, because there is no way he would stay in his bed if I had to convert it now!! I wouldn\'t worry about it for now. do you have the bassinet for baby KK?? if not I have one you can use (I have no plans on needing it). As for another crib for this little monkey. i love the convertable crib, just because you have to put the $$ out now but not again, sorry guys your on your own when you move out!! Friends of our actually found their stuff at Toy R Us.com and drove to Spokane to pick it up - ROAD TRIP but they loved it and it looks great and was undoubtably cheaper than the 3000 one they found here!! ******* My advice is keep him in a crib as long as possible. Once they are in a bed, they are all over the place. We put Nicola in a toddler bed at 2, and it is more of a fight now to get her to bed. We put a baby gate at her door so she doesn\'t escape, and to keep her in her bed she knows that if she gets out, we take her soozies away (soothers). We usually have to take them away once or twice a night! I wouldn\'t buy another crib. Once you give the crib to the other baby, consider getting a regular mattress for JJ. Nicola\'s toddler bed is tiny, and it won\'t be long before we have to upgrade to a regular bed! Good luck. ******* Evangeline jumped out of her crib by herself at about 17.5 months (almost giving me a heart attack!) She is in a convertible, so we took off the front piece and converted it to a day bed, the very same day! She absolutely loves her bed and we have had no trouble getting her to sleep in it. We have gated her door so she cannot escape. Leah is in our room (she is 8 weeks now) I plan to have her in for another few months (if Sean will let me!) and then rebuild the crib for her. We will get Evangeline an actual bed before then - probably a double. Good Luck!Rebecca ****** Keep JJ in a crib until he\'s 3. But another crib for baby. Trust me on this one! ****** I love how everyone has such strong opinions about what is \"right\" in this situation. Reality is, whatever you do will end up working for you. Hallie and Candice are 19 months apart and both of them were out of their crib by the time they were 18 months. I moved Hallie out of hers at about 16 or17 months because I didn\'t want her to feel like she was being booted from the crib for the baby. We couldn\'t afford to buy a second crib ... nor did I want to. We put her right into a twin bed -we took the crib down, put it into the new baby room (not assembled) and put in her twin bed. The first night she cried a little and fell asleep at the door - I didn\'t gate it, just closed the door like I did when she was in her crib (she was too small to turn the doorknob). Once she was asleep I moved her into her bed. The next night she cried at the door for a minute then crawled into her bed, covered herself up and went to sleep. We had no issues with getting her to stay in her bed after the first couple of nights. Candice was the same - we were moving and decided to just put her into a bed when we got into the new house. I don\'t remember having her even get out of bed once she was in it ... she still doesn\'t! This worked for me, because it is what we did ... I\'m sure if I had kept them in the crib longer, that would have been what \"worked\" instead. As I said ... the reality is that whatever you do, will end up working. Any way you do it, it is going to be an adjustment and after the first 2 or 3 nights he will get into the groove of things. I wouldn\'t, personally shell out the money for a second crib ... I have a rather large basinette (Rhonda used it too) that you are welcome to - both of my girls were in it until they were about 4 months old. hugs -v ***** Hey Karyn. It\'s tough to say what to do because I think it really depends on the kid. The crib vs. bed call was one of the toughest decisions we made while expecting number 2, so I feel your pain. Here is our experience, if it helps...Taylor started climbing out of her crib at 15 mo., but no one was ready for her to be in a bed or on a mattress (even though she does nap on a mat a daycare) so we used a crib tent to keep her in and safe for a while longer. The idea of her wandering the house at night while I sleep scares the SH*&T out of me and I was unwilling to take everything out of her room and leave only a mattress so that she would have a safe unsupervised environment as she was still so young. We tried moving her to a toddler bed about 2 months before the baby was born when Taylor was 20 mo. and it was a disaster. Taylor normally goes to bed easily and without protest, but it was taking 2 hours to get her down for the night and Dean ended up sleeping on the floor beside her on several occasions. Taylor also started waking up several times a night, and getting up for the day at 5 or 5:30 a.m. As for naps, she just refused to take them. This went on for a week and didn\'t seem to be getting better. This was not working for us, and it didn\'t appear to be working for her either, so we put her back in her crib where she very happily goes to sleep by herself at night and at nap time. For now, we\'ve borrowed a crib from a friend for the baby, as I think the overlap for needing two cribs will only be about 6 months or so. The baby only uses the crib for the occasional nap right now as she\'s in a bassinet in our room, but I wanted to introduce it as a place to sleep early on so the transition isn\'t too strange when she starts sleeping there regularly. I\'m not particularly fond of the styling of either of the damn things, but I figure they are temporary. We had a lot of sleep challenges with Taylor, so once we found something that worked for her it\'s been best to just maintain it. I\'ve got to say, the ability to put Taylor down for a nap in her crib and know she will stay there has been very helpful during the early weeks with the new babe. When Taylor is ready for a bed I think we\'ll just go straight to a big bed because she\'ll probably be about 2 1/2 at that point. We only used the toddler bed because my mom had an extra one so we thought we\'d give it a shot. Ain\'t parenthood grand...? Karen *****

baby[bump]mama - Thursday, 18 June thanks to all the ladies that commented on my last blog. your words mean so much! for now i am keeping my due date at 1.25.10. We were going to tell the family this Sunday, but seeing the baby measures small we are not going to tell anyone until i am 12wks. i hope my doc will give me another ultrasound to make sure the baby is going correctly. i have looked at other\'s people babies at 6-8wks, and for some reason i think my baby is much smaller. but our lil bean has a good heartbeat. i am a little scared, but there is nothing i can physically do besides be good to my body. Its in God\'s hands now, I just pray that he can send us a healthy child.
much love, Renee
