pregavit - Tuesday, 14 October ooh, a couple of other things...try some of the natural turning things first (acupunture, acupressure, exercises, homeopathy, etc) and then go for an ECV as i've heard an ECV can be easier and more successful if you've tried the natural things first. good luck to both of us!! : )
pregavit - Tuesday, 14 October hey amy!! my bub is still breech too. i am adamant that i'm not going to have a c-section unless it is vitally important. if he is still breech at the start of labour i will then make the decision to make our way to hospital but am still sure i want to go all the way with a natural birth as long as babe is not in danger. we can give birth naturally this way, trust your body and trust your baby. there may be a reason that your babe is breech and it's the best way for them to come out. read up as much as you can on natural breech birth and i wholeheartedly recommend this book: Breech Birth Woman Wise by Maggie Banks (www.birthspirit.co.nz).
be strong amy, trust in your self, in your intuition. do your own research rather than buy into the common scare tactics of the medical profession. a c-section is much easier for them but is it the best for you and baby?
EricandCalebsMommy - Tuesday, 14 October I am in your boat right now. I'm 36 weeks, and our little bean went breech somewhere between 32 and 34 weeks. I haven't been checked again yet (I go in tomorrow), but I'm 99.9% sure that s/he's still breech (I feel hiccups above my belly button, and his/her kicks are really low ~ practically on my bladder). I will not be doing the version. I read that the success rate is only about 60%, and it can be very painful for you. I don't know if you're a faithful person (I became more faithful after I became pregnant than I ever was before), but my personal deep feeling is that if the baby is breech, there is a reason for that ~ I have read stories from women who said they were so glad they just did the c-section because when they saw the baby at the time of the c-section, the cord was heavily wrapped around the baby's neck, etc. I don't think that's common, but to me, it's not worth any risk. Of course, c-sections are not without risk, but it just seems safer to me. In my case, I just think that God is the only one who really knows the right way, and if the baby is breech, He has a planned reason for that. But it's such a personal decision, and I think the really important thing is just to listen to your heart, deep down. It will tell you what is right for you and your little one ~ and either way, the gift at the end is beyond wonderful ~ good luck ~ I know it's a very difficult decision!
kt08dec88 - Tuesday, 14 October My advice is try the inversion...because if you dont, then you will always wonder if it would have worked or not...if it doesnt then at least you tried... but i have heard this is very very painful... i wouldnt know myself but who knows... If it is really important to you to have a natural birth then i would definatly try...good luck! =)
stacy5175 - Tuesday, 14 October What's the percentage of babies who turn with inversion? You can always give it a try, and if it's too uncomfortable...just have the dr. stop. Good luck! I'll be praying for you :)
dcarr0404 - Tuesday, 14 October If I was in that situation I would just go ahead and do the c-section because I am deathly afraid of the inversion. Just me though. If you're willing to try the inversion then go ahead and go for it. It may work! Let me know what you decide!!
The Orlandos - Tuesday, 14 October Hey Amy~ I know everyone is probally telling you a million things. If it was ME, I would have the c-section. It just seems like the safest way to go and obviously the baby is breech for a reason. But, you should do what you and Eric decided. Let me know. Love ya.
Kitty210704 - Tuesday, 14 October I depends how dangerous it would be to try it naturally. If it wasnt too risky I would try. If I will be c-section anyway , you really have nothing to loose. Its my first so i havent had the decision before. Good luck! Keep me posted!
joje - Tuesday, 14 October Hi. Sorry to hear that she hasn't flipped for you yet. This is a hard decision & I too lost sleep over it. I even cried. I still feel like I am going to be missing out on alot (& actually AM missing out on the things that the other girls in my week are going through) but you have to remember that this is *not* your fault, nothing that you did or didn't do. I did alot of research on the version & my dr. point blank told me that she personally did not have a high success rate on turning the babies when they were a 1st- which meant I would have had to have had a C section immediately following anyway. That kinda decided for me right there. I would ask your doc how many they have done, how successful & will they induce you immediately following IF it is successful (bcus some turn right back if not delivered right away). I too was concerned about all future births having to be a C section. Doc said this is not guaranteed that alot of women can have a VBAC. I know- there is SO MUCH to think about here.. Like I said- my C section is in 3 days & I still kinda wonder if I should have had them do the version- but - my husband & I agreed that we did not want it for her. As long as we get to have her safe & sound, thats the main goal. See??? Making sacrifices already for our children. We are good moms! Good luck to you on whatever you decide. Please let me know how it goes. I know how nervewracking this decision was for me. Bless you. - Joje
mommabell - Tuesday, 14 October Hey my friends baby just flipped finally on its own a week ago and she is due in 5 days. So it can still happen. I have always felt weird about when the docs try and flip the baby themselves, like there could be a cord difficulty. But whatever the outcome don't feel like you have failed or anything if you have a c section, whatever gets your baby out safely is most important. Good Luck!!
Kitty210704 - Tuesday, 14 October Well my doc apoinment went well. The pain is just my hips spreading and preparing for labor. No worries no labor pains Its just uncomfortable when I walk is all. Also, Mykah is 32 cm now at 31 wks 4 dys. Im relieved cause she was 28 cm at 30 wks 0 dys so she had a little growth spurt! I love my belly .its getting bigger and bigger finally. Still about 9 wks to go!
Take care, hope all is well
vipbaby68123 - Monday, 13 October hello all, just wanted to let everyo9ne know, that as of October 13, 2008 at 1:07 in the afternoon, I just put in a load of laundry, and still on Katie action (Birth I mean)...she's still making me very uncomfortable!
Kitty210704 - Monday, 13 October I feel the pain trust me! Im 31 wks and I have a small waddle already. It feels like my hips are spreading cause I feel discomfort "down there" and its annoying and painful. Sometimes the pain is sharp especially first thing in the morning after waking up. Feeling anything similar? I have a doc appointment today so, im going to ask her about it
my3rdbaby - Monday, 13 October Hi Amy, yes-unfortunately, I've had to go on to need c-sections for my second child and will need one for this third one. However, it's no longer just an accepted thought that once a c-section always a c-section. With my second child, I was going for a VBAC, but had to have a c-section because of other complications, not because of the section with my first child. Having said that, my kids were 5 years apart so the dr. felt confident that I'd be fine with a VBAC. If you have a second child at least 2 years apart, then you should be ok to try for a VBAC if you have no other complicating factors. I know it's a tough decision, and there is nothing 'easier' about the c-section either. Yes, there is recovery time after the surgery and coping with a newborn and recovery can be hard at first, but make your decision on what's best for the baby. If you have help at home (hubby or Mom or friend) that can help with the first week or two, then the c-section is not so terrible. I've had two and soon to have my third section, and am more worried about third time around as I've got two older kids to care for as well as coming home to recover from the section with a newborn. My second child is only 20 months old and is very high needs, so I'm trying to line up as much help as possible. Good thing my hubby is so hands-on. Ask your OB how many external versions he/she has done and what hio/her success rate has been with them. Keep in mind also, even if you go for a vaginal delivery following a successful version, there is no guarantee you won't need a section for some other reason. Anyway, thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck. Let me know what you decide. Valerie
joje - Sunday, 12 October I know exactly what you mean. This is my 1st too & I was DEVASTATED when they told me she was breech. I completely understand. They kept telling me that there was time & space & that most of them turn etc & I guess I thought she would. Then they said to schedule the section just to be on the schedule 'just in case'. Well- here we are 5 days away & she is still a little V lol. But- I have come to terms with having the section. I still feel like I am going to be missing out on SO MUCH but really, in the end, what matters is that she arrives safely, however that may be. I googled ways to turn them (you probly have too) but one thing that was easy but-lol OBVIOUSLY- didnt work for me, was to put frozen veggies or something cold where her head is.
Anyway, I wish you luck in whatever you decide. Please let me know how it goes for you.
Happy turning!!
joje - Sunday, 12 October Hi. I am from week 38 but i saw your post. My little girl is also frank breech. I tried alot of things to get her to turn but she is a stinker & is not budging. My docs offered me the version as well.. one said would do it & immediately induce or do c section ( depending on success of version) but I declined. I researched it & it sounds painful. I also read 1 instance where it did not have a good outcome & it just scared me. Also I just didnt want to stress her. These are only my opinions.. & as much as I did not want to, I am going to have a C section on the 17th. You may want to look into a chiropractor in your area who is proficient in the Webster technique. This did not help me, but it does have pretty high success rates. Anyway, good luck to you & I hope your little one turns for you.
my3rdbaby - Sunday, 12 October Hi Amy, Congrats on your first baby on the way. Just wanted to comment quickly about the external version. My first baby was breech and we thought about the version but decided not to do it. I'm glad, one of the other Mom's in my maternity group did it and it was painful and did not work. There is a very high percentage of babies that will turn back around within 24 hours. Even our labor nurse was against it, and with the baby being so big now, there's not much room to turn (and risk of umbilical cord tangling). Anyway, we opted for the c-section and I'm glad we did after seeing what my other friend whent through. It also threw her into early labor (which is quite common) and she ended up with a c-section anyway. Just some food for thought. I'm by no means an authority, but just speaking from my experience. When we told our dr. our decision, he seemed pleased, even though he was duty-bound to offer us the external version. Good luck, Valerie
melanie rae - Thursday, 9 October Hey, your pics are cute! You look good being preggo. I'm doing good myself, just ready to see this little girl, that's all. I haven't even started on the nursery yet. I need to. Just waiting on the showers to get here so I'll know what I got and what I need to get.. lol.. hope all is well with you. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I still don't have a computer at home and I'm so busy at work to get on here like I'd want to. I'll email again when I can. Talk soon!
The Orlandos - Thursday, 9 October Hey, everything went wonderful! I post a blog about it with pictures. She is 100% healthy, passed all the tests and measurements! Yay. How are you feeling?
CarsonPhoenix - Wednesday, 8 October I'm doing good. I go to the Dr. tomorrow so we'll see what is happening then. I'll keep you undated though! Hopefully he'll tell me I am dialated!
madiraevin - Tuesday, 7 October 07-10-2008 - Illnesses (new blog added)
camrynsmommy - Tuesday, 7 October you look great!! i love the crib!
EricandCalebsMommy - Tuesday, 7 October If it helps you to feel better (it helped me), everything I've read says that as long as you don't have an emergency c-section, you should be able to breastfeed and hold the baby within an hour or so. And they actually make you get up and walk around as soon as you can! I agree with you, though, that whatever happens will happen, and I have nothing but total faith that whatever is the safest way for our little miracle blessing to arrive is exactly how it will be ~ good luck!!
The Orlandos - Tuesday, 7 October Oh good. Hopefully she turns around soon! What is a strep B test? I am good besides horrible headaches and my uncle passed away this past weekend. I have an appointment and my 3d scan at the hospital on Wednesday! I can't wait to see what she looks like! Send me your address on myspace mail. Talk to you soon. I love the pics of her nursery. So cute!
christy33 - Tuesday, 7 October Soo close!! Wishing you a happy and healthy delivery! The nursery is adorable!
