I am a 37 year old mommy of a wonderful little two-year old daughter, Mackenzie
My daughter was a C-section at 41 weeks after 26 hours of natural labor in September of 2006. Apparently, 2% of the female population has bone structure that does not allow them to go into labor and give birth on their own. Unfortunately, when I asked my mother why *I* was delivered by c-section when I was getting close to my due date, she "forgot" to tell me that this was the reason until AFTER I delivered. *sigh* However, I would not have changed a single moment, and do not regret or blame myself for the c-section. I had a WONDERFUL birth experience and would do it all over again the same way.
In March of 2008 and at 36, we found out we were pregnant again after the first try (same with my daughter) and were thrilled. The baby kept measuring small on the u/s, but we just went with it. I had almost no morning sickness, which was welcome after 10 months of violent morning sickness with my first pregnancy. We never imagined that three days before Mother's Day I would miscarry at 60 days because no one in our family ever had. The silly thing is that I thought I was tough and could handle being around people two days later until I ran into an out of town friend with a daughter the same age as mine who was 5 months along. At that moment, the world just spun too fast and the strong, logical me melted into an emotional basket case I didn't know.
My doctor couldn't tell me why the miscarriage happened, but said it was probably a fluke. We continued to try for several months, using all the usual methods of prediction that had been so successful before, to no avail. My doctor finally decided to check my progesterone before sending me for a HSG, and found my progesterone was 7 instead of the normal 14-55. They decided to prescribe Clomid for my next cycle. Her nurse confided to me that a large percentage of this doctor's patients end up pregnant before they can begin the treatment, and though she wasn't making any promises, she hoped I was one. Knowing I was low in progesterone, I did research and heard that a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables can boost progesterone levels. For three weeks I changed my diet to try to increase my levels and hoped for the best. At 21 days (I was to begin my treatment next cycle) they tested me and said I wasn't pregnant. I was disappointed but hopeful that my luck would change soon. On day 30, I decided to test for "no apparent reason". We knew I wasn't pregnant, right?? Well......it was positive and not just a little! I almost fainted! I did a different brand to be sure, and it was positive as well. I then showed my stunned husband and called my doc to tell her and get started the progesterone supplements.
We are excited and Mackenzie can't wait to be a big sister. The baby will be born within days of her 3rd birthday and she says we are having a boy.....we will see! I hope to be able to labor down a while before the c-section to "prime" my hormones and the post-partum process. I don't know if the doc will let me, but it is worth a try! The endorphin rush alone is worth it!!
Things I am passionate about or have experience with (but not judgmental). Feel free to message me about them if you are interested: cloth diapering, home made baby food, non medicated childbirth, c-sections, baby wearing, and a member of MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers http://mops.org/)...I may add more later.. ; )
