Hey Chantale! I can barely write you fast enough! Our test came back with flying colors! We were so happy to see all of the positive things yesterday. The big one: the NT was 1.8mm. Anything 3mm or less is considered normal. Tons of movement and kicking & stretching. No muscle atrophy! Normal head and nasal bone present. Approx 3 inches from head to bum. Long, long legs! Heartrate 153 bpm. As soon as my husband can post the U/S pics they'll be up. I also had fantastic stats regarding my potential for the defects in correlation to yesterday's test. Because of the results my probability of Downs went from a previous risk of 1: 36 to NOW 1: 701. And the risk of Trisomy 13 & 18 went from previous risk of 1: 47 to NOW 1: 922. My odds have jumped up 20 times. That's the best anyone can hope for. Our genetics counsellor was grinning from ear to ear reading us the good news. We are still going for an Amnio to be rock solidly sure in January. I'll get the call probably later today with the appt. booking. We are also going for an 18 week U/S after that. We should have our Amnio results back before the 18 week U/S so that one can be just a pleasant experience, no worry.
My husband was sooooo excited last nite that he sneaked out and drove to the Walmart after I went to bed (they're open 24 hours now for Xmas) and bought a crib & changetable. He set it up and put on the little bedding set. It was the most precious thing I've ever seen! He just wants to start having happy things now that we've had such encouraging news. He also wants to start telling people. We'll see. Soooo happy & releived that this first big test went so well. We're over the moon!
P.S. They gave me a due date of June 19th. I wasn't going to change it but 2 days earlier is 2 days. Even though babies come when they're good & ready. Hope you are well!

I go today at 2pm and have a specialist appt. to review the results I'm supposed to take to him. He's in a seperate building. My husband took the day off to come with me. I'll fill you in as soon as I have info. Fingers crossed.......

Message to all: In the last 2 years you all posted 1.1 million photos to the site, and that needs a little maintenance. We are currently renaming all photos from the personal photobooks in order to speed up the site. Some, or all your photos may not show while we are working on the photobooks. You don't have to do anything. We hope to have all photos sorted in about 24 hours from now. You can upload new photos to your photobook while the computer is working on your other photos. Thanks for reading.

Hey Chantale! How's every little thing? I thought I'd check in with you before the weekend. Mine's pretty crazy busy. We're going into our high season for performances (I front a party band at night, you know, instead of resting) and I have 3 shows this weekend. December is full of corporate Xmas parties and that's who we play for. All very nicey-nice with people dressed up and good food. None of my dresses have been fitting so I had to shop for some large stretchy ones. Sigh. It's tough working a 40 hour a week job and "Rockin' into the Night" on the weekends. I run out of breath and have problems with my pitch. Whatever, it won't last forever. I'll probably sing until 6 months or so and then they'll get a replacement for me for my maternity leave. I'll be stuck working my full time job until May or June though. Good thing I sit on my ass at a comupter for a living! LOL
So the other day I was bored at work and looking thru the Ultrasound section of photos. Now, I'm trying not to be catty but all I saw for weeks 11-12 were little undistinguishable blobs that barely looked like babies. But the funniest parts were the captions reading: Oh, isn't he cute? or What do you think it is? Boy or girl? or She's waving at us. Bleeech! These things had TAILS only a couple of weeks ago. But the best was the 3D pictures. Eeeeeew! These babies looked like creepy little clay cherubs laying in waiting till they could come out and nip at your ankles. Sorry if I'm ranting.
I'm pretty bloated these days but not too nauseaus (Viva Diclectin!) How's your hair looking these days? Mine looks like the head of a 60 year-old woman! I SO cannot wait to fix it in the 2nd trimester. I haven't even been for a cut in the last 3 months. It's like I've just given up. LOL Got your tree up yet? What the heck do you get an 11 yearold for Xmas these days? Electronics? Crafts? I'll bet things are reasonably priced there cause that's where all the merchandise we buy comes from.
Well, that's about all I've got for now. I go for my NT on Tuesday and hopefully I'll have some good news to tell you. Still waiting on the January Amnio to know for sure. Have a great weekend! P.S. Happy 199 days to us!!!!!!!! Woo Hoo!

Hi do u have an idea of what hospital u will be having ur baby at?

suzy42 - Wednesday, 26 November
Your messages are great! Thanks for taking the time to write them. I think I had a bout of the flu over the weekend. Just as I was starting to feel better this last week I got hit on Saturday with evil stomach. Not throwing up just other nastiness (tmi) I ended up taking 2 days off work just to recoup. It's the first I've taken off so far so there was no guilt.
I totally know what you mean about the "healthy" appetites of the Chinese. Now only working for them for 3 years we also had a sweet little old lady that lived next door and she invited us to her 90th Birthday party. She just so happens to be the first female surgeon in China. Her name is Hazel Lee and her husband was also a well known surgeon. She had stories in broken english of the great war with Japan and how they fled with their small children. Anyway the quantaties of food that came could have fed an army! Table manners were kept in check as there waqs a mixture of cultures attending. When it is only Chinese they seem to grow a third arm so they can smoke, eat and gamble all at the same time! And alot of the tradtitional dishes are quite inidentifyable. Bits of this & that . Heads & tails. Not anything like what is called "Chinese food".
My husband, bless his heart, took it upon himself to put up our Xmas tree. I asked him what the Hell was up with that? I thought we weren't having one. He said with a baby on the way we have to get over our dislike of the holidays. Whatever. I can't complain. He's also done all of our shopping (as we still find ourselves buying for adults) and wrapping and put up the lights on the house. I told him I'll be happy to take it down when it's time.
We are also escaping having a Xmas meal at the in-laws (the tree people). Most of their food is okay but they make this toxic stuffing and trick you by putting turkey innards in it. You know the bag of crap that's supposed to be thrown away? Yeah, they chop that up and hide it in the stuffing. Like we don't know what it tastes like. It's a game of good bite, bad bite. So its safer not to eat there. Both my parents live out of town: one in B.C. and one snowbirds in Arizona. My kids are going to Hawaii with their other parent during the holidays so we're just going to give them American money. My husband's Mom may have us over for a couple hours in their smoke-filled trailer while they knock back beer and squabble early in the day. His stepdad is a crotchety old man with one leg (you can't make up stuff this ridiculous) and swears and complains constantly. We tell him not to swear around my kids as it freaks them out.
I'll bet it's nice to have your hubby back from his trip. Also good work with figuring out the rythms of your Diclectin. I thought I was weaning off it but after this weekend I'm not so sure. Hope all is well with you and that you won't find yourself climbing 5-6 flights of stairs anytime soon. Take Care! PS - Happy 10 weeks to you too!

Hi
i was reading your msg on wk 9 and could not help noticing that you are unaware of the fact about hair dye going into your bloodstream.
It does so in some amounts, there have been studies on this, here is a link to one.
cheers lou

Hey Chantale. How's it going? Just thought I'd check in before the weekend. Is the Diclectin having any effect yet? Any releif in sight? So what's the deal with China's holidays for you? I know thay have a New Year at the end of January and that's probably pretty huge. Do they celebrate Thanksgiving or a version of Xmas? Do you have to put up a tree for your daughter? We don't do a tree anymore, as we don't particularly like Xmas. We used to put one up when the kids were small but now that they're teenagers we put up this blow-up SpongeBob filled with constant air. I think it's meant for outside but we find it amusing and load presents around his feet. One particularly annoying tradition my in-laws have is the decorating of their stupid tree. They invite us over every year for pizza (big deal) and we are forced to decorate their Xmas tree for them while they sit and watch. We're not 8 years old! I'v managed to escape the last one or so as I was busy on those nights. The thought of that definitely makes me nauseated. Sorry if I sound bitter, I'm just not into Xmas. Hope you are doing well. Maybe Santa will bring you a gas mask for your gift!

I'm trying to imagine what it must be like to live in such a putrid smelling environment all the time. I have a daily commute past the dump which I'm thinking smells much like your China. I only have to stand it for 5-7 minutes so hats off to you for your strength. I read your comment about hair. Oh....don't get me started. Being 42 I have a head full of grey. I didn't get my roots touched up before I found out I was pregnant so I have about 3 inches of greys peaking menacingly thru my brown/black hair. The greys are easy to spot cause they're only an inch or so long, and kinky. What the hell is up with that? Now I can't get my head tended to until after the first Trimester just to be safe. Nothing like feeling like crap and looking like crap, eh? My last weekly blood test is today which is nice. I will be finishing my Progesterone pills around Wednesday or Thursday too. Yuck. They're messy and cause discharge. Nice to be in week 9 don't you think? Soon double digits will come, then week 12 NT (for those who opt for it) I think it's a good thing that your in-laws are coming to help out. A little cleaning, a little cooking that's what family is for. There'll be losts of charades & nodding & smiling going on in your house. I used to work at a Chinese restaurant for 3 years. They taught me a little but the grandmother didn't speak any English. We always knew what each other wanted/needed. Take comfort in the extra help. Hope you have a good week!

brem - Tuesday, 18 November
ok thank you thats the same medicine my friend got.
Hopefully that will help me lol

Hi Chantale. Your Diary of a Pregnant Lady cracked me up. It's totally how most of us feel most of the time. It reminded me of the Irma Bombeck series of books from the 80's.( I won't be offended if you don't know them since you were born in the 80's). She wrote "Life is a bowl of cherries....so what am I doing in the pits" and it has the same sense of humor. I remember going to Japan and it smelled there. It's probably similar to China. I think it's their sewage system. And New York smelled bad too. We just went there in September. Again it's the sewers. I'm in the stage of pretending that i'm not sick. I am trying to go along as if normal and then it hits. I try to eat like regular people and then it all goes badly. Sigh. It can't last forever, can it? I keep thinking that the sickness & the sleepyness means were still pregnant. I've been watching a few of the girls drop out from m/c. Always very sad. You never really know if it'll be your turn next. Everyday is progress I say. One more day until the weekend and some much needed sleep. I'll sneak it when I can. Two more days left in week 8. I always look to what week you're in 'cause we have the same due date. Not that that means anything. Babies come when they're good & ready. Hope you have a good weekend. Later!

mrs.rose - Monday, 10 November
hi! I found your profile interesting and am new here, on week 7½... i dont know how this works? How do you add friends???

suzy42 - Monday, 10 November
Hi Chantale. Sounds awful being so sick & away from home. Do you think that's making it worse? My sickness is weird this time around. I used to be really nauseaus in the mornings and near vomiting. Now I'm pretty good early but am feeling it more in the evening. I think I should have smaller meals for dinner. I think my stomach is reacting to being too full. When do you return to Canada? It probably feels like not soon enough. My house is messy and full of dog hair. I think that's the worst part is all the hair. It's everywhere. I just try to ignore it until I have to clean it. Hope you had a nice weekend. :) P.S. Your blogs are crackin' me up!

Firefighterwife - Monday, 10 November
That's too bad that China makes it so difficult to get prenatal care. I don't blame you for not wanting to wait 7 hours to see a doctor. Well, I am sure your pregnancy will go just fine!

I will definitely let you know how the sonogram goes on the 17th. I can't wait to hear the heartbeat. It doesn't seem real yet to me and I think that will solidify it in my mind.

Have a great week. I'll let you know if I start getting in morning sickness! I don't think I will, though :) I think I'm one of the "lucky" ones!

firefighterwife - Sunday, 9 November
I am happy you'll get the opportunity to go to Canida to find out the sex. You sound like me in that you can't wait to find out what you are having.

My pregnancy has been really bizarre...well in a good way. I have had NO SYMPTOMS or morning sickness at all. I guess I have been super lucky. The only physical change that tipped me off is that my boobs feel like they are getting huge already. Other than that things have been just fine. I am sort of nervous and hoping everything is alright. I am anxious for my sonogram on November 18th!

firefighterwife - Sunday, 9 November
Well, between you and me I am sort of hoping for a girl. Of course, we would be happy with what4ver we get as long as the baby is healthy, but I have such a close relationship with my mom that I woud like to share that with a daughter of my own. We'll see. Are you planning on finding out the sex of your baby? My husband and I want to for sure!

suzy42 - Wednesday, 5 November
Hi. Haven't heard from you in a little while. Are you still nauseas? How's your dog doing? It snowed for the first time here in Calgary. I hope it's not an early winter. We usually are pretty dry until January. Hope you are well. Write when you've got some time. :)
