mariska - Sunday, 3 August I hope your scan in 2 weeks will give you positive energy!! With our last results (they didn't measure the ventricles, so I am not sure if they are down, but they looked really small - I could not see the 3rd....) it does proof that all babies grow differently. The head was 3 weeks ahead last time and know the body has caught up. Hang in there and let me know how your scan goes, will be thinking of you!
mariska - Wednesday, 30 July Hi there, how are you holding up after your last scan. It seems to be stable now, that is a good sign. Did they say anything about the 3rd ventricle being enlarged. Last time the dr. thought it was due to a narrowing somewhere, I am just worried sick that something may be missing in the brain allthough they seem to think everything is there as far as they can tell. I've only got a couple of weeks (or less) to go, so we will see and hope for the best. Hope you are doing ok. - Mariska
kodiemom - Saturday, 26 July Did you do an MRI? I have two radiologists reading the same MRI who are disagreeing, one is measuring the vents at 16 & 17mm, the other at 13 &15MM, however my ultrasounds are measuring 13 & 15mm. it makes no sense. the neurologist at childrens hospital boston told me that 15, 16, 17mm are moderate readings , and that hydrocephaly would only be indicated with pressure noted on the mRI----i hope your US went well yesterday.....
mariska - Thursday, 24 July Good luck, will be thinking of you. Hope you will getting good news!!
turtlemom - Friday, 18 July I have a good feeling about your little one. I wish I could afford a nanny!!!
I have been tracking little Owen for a while now. His mom, Michelle, has thought of everything. She is a wonderful resource!!!
dsryan - Friday, 18 July sorry it took so long to get back to u, we are in the middle of moving from england to idaho(military), so i have been mad busy. all is well here, briley is doing terrific, 8 weeks old now, sleeps through the night, just started her on cereal this week, and she loves it. she can't get enough. she is getting chunky, which is so cute, my son was a preemie(8weeks) and he was always so small and briley isn't, so different for me to have a cute chunkie baby. i will download some new pics of her so everyone can see her. let me know how things are going. by the way, where are u from in michigan, i am originally from ohio(lima)?
mariska - Thursday, 17 July Hi there, i'll be thinking off you. Hope it will be stable, like in our situation!! Keep me posted and you hang in there too!!
turtlemom - Wednesday, 16 July I haven't seen my ankles since April...
turtlemom - Tuesday, 15 July Also, in response to your question on the board about both lateral vents and 3rd being dialated. My Peri told me he wasn't surprised to see that the 3rd was dialated b/c of the pressure being caused but the lateral vents. It sounded like it was inevitable. He also doesn't think it is aqueductal stenosis, which is the most common form of hydro. So, your baby might be different.
turtlemom - Monday, 14 July Hi there, I have an appointment on Thursday (7/17). We'll see. I did hear from Casey whose daughter gave birth on 7/3. He had larger vents than the majority of the people on the board. He was shunted on 7/5 and will probably go home tomorrow. It sounds like he is doing well. So, there is you and I, Casey, Kayz & Irishgal79 that have cases of concern. How are you doing?
mariska - Saturday, 12 July I saw your note on the board as well re. 3rd dilated, which was at `our29 week scan too, they think it could be due to a narrowing and they expected the fluid to increase, however at 33 weeks it is stable. So hopefully the same will happen for you. What date do you have to go for your next U/S? Hang in there too!!
mariska - Saturday, 12 July Hi, her block is http://www.scottandkira.blogspot.com/. Unfortunately little Jacob was not able to breath on his own, so they had to let him go. My heart goes out to them.
Ali-S - Thursday, 10 July Hi Cyndrn, You may start to see a decrease in your little man's measurements now that you are in your third trimester as I have read of it happening in some of the other girls profiles and comments. I still strongly believe that it could all be down to a growth spurt in the baby that corrects itself in the third trimester, thats what I'm hoping for! I was speaking to my midwife early on in the week and she said that the same thing happened to one of her patients last year, the lady was in terrible stress after being told of her baby having ventricularomegaly and would get upset at all her appointments/ scans, then around week 34 it corrected itself. When is your next scan? Thats you and I in week 30 now so the count down begins, just as we are accepting the ventricularomegely and not getting so nervous about it we are then hit with the thought of going through the labour pains! My other son is 15yrs old so I have totally forgotten it all so to me it's like a first pregnancy all over again! Take care of yourself and your little guy. Speak soon xx
mariska - Thursday, 10 July Do you get really nervous about the scans? I did, so bad I could barely breath, but luckily I do not have to go in anymore, unless I want to near to the due date. I am not sure yet. Take care of yourself! Half way I was loosing wait due to the stress...not good either. I hope next time everything will look a lot better or stable, which could very well be even though the 3rd vent is dilated. With our baby they therefore thought measurements would go up, but they didn't. Hang in there!! And I will keep you posted from my end and hopefully some cute baby picture in 6 weeks :))
mariska - Wednesday, 9 July the head size is on 75th percentile in our situation, which didn't mean anything according to the dr.
mariska - Wednesday, 9 July Our baby has the same (dilated 3rd ventricle). First told at 29 weeks. I think the only reason why they mention it at this period, because it should not be visible. Our dr. said that they can't really tell if it would mean anything. At 33 weeks all is still the same, so we do not have to come back for checks, unless we want to. In our situation they didn't try to spare anyone's feelings, so I think in your case they simple just do not know either. The advise given to us: just continue to check how he is doing after he is born. Hope this helps you somewhat, hang in there and try not to think the worst, how hard that my be at times, stress is not good for your baby. Hang in there and keep us posted. When is your next check?
Ali-S - Wednesday, 9 July Just realised that your due on the same day as me. Hope your cramps/ contractions have stopped and your not feeling so down. Take it easy for a while, not long now until we are walking out of hospital with our little bundles. My next scan is on the 17th july, His last measurements, 2 weeks ago, were 11.2mm and doctor rounded them up to 12mm (hate when doc does that) so am just trying to stay calm and positive about it all now. Hope your doing ok? xx
turtlemom - Tuesday, 8 July I think those measurements are at the very mild side of hydro (if at all). I bet they go down as your pregnancy progresses. Keep your chin up.
dsryan - Friday, 4 July cyndrn, your dr. said that if the vents are enlarged then so should the 3rd vent because they are connected, i dont' agree. briley's vents were enlarged and the 3 and 4 vents were normal the entire time. even when i had the 2 mri's they said the whole brain is in tact, all is there, and the right sizes, except the lateral vents only. and i see you are measuring around 15mm now, is that an exact or a round up, don't let them tell u to round up! remember briley's went up to 16mm at 24 weeks, but week 26 they were 15.6, then 15.4, then 13.8, then 13.6mm by 34weeks, and at birth they don't measure the same when they do the baby. they measure them but differently, briley's was 16 and 19 at her 2 week checkup, but my neurological pediatrian said this measurement is different then when they measure in utero. cause while pregnant these measurements are severe, but now she is considered mild/moderate! yeah! she is getting so big. i will try to post a new pic soon, she is 6 weeks old, it has flown by. if you have any more questions or comments please feel free to ask, i'm here. i know it is a tough/stressful time. i'll keep u in my prayers and thoughts. good luck.
mariska - Friday, 4 July Hi there, they told us bc the 3rd is visable too it could be due to a narrowing in the neck. In our case they haven't been talking about shunting either. What was the head size? Are you going to do a MRI?
