I have not checked out The Business of Being Born but have heard much about it. I dig that Frenchy you learned about in class! Get this, Friday night out with my good girlfriend who had a baby girl a couple of years ago. She had to have an emergency c-section due to super high blood pressure and 3 days before she was put on bed rest and told…kid you freaking not…that swallowing semen (most p.c. way I could phrase it) was really good for avoiding preeclampsia. They recommended it as many times as day as she could. I darn near choked on my food when she told me this. This morning I was snuggling with my hubby and told him this and he is all fired up to prevent preeclampsia…LOL. Take care, Momma!!

My husband has been pondering on the name suggestion that I gave and now he is in love with Giovanna ( not sure how exactly I will spell it) He doesn't want me to look anymore. The more and more he says it, the more he likes it. What I like about it is.. it's not as common as some of the other names. It's unique as she will be. I may still want to finish to the end of the alphabet just to be sure but this is sticking for now. Thanks for your input, it means alot to me.

Hmmmm milkshakes help with the heartburn? I can deal with that. I hate heartburn and I NEVER woulda thought that water could ever give anyone heartburn but I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! :)

Hi Goonie,
our classes are lamaze, happiest baby on the block, infant care, just for dads, evening with a pediatrician, and our MIL is going to the grandparents class. I think we pretty much covered all of the bases. I will get to go to a breast feeding class while I am in the hospital so I didn't sign up for that one. Hmmm, my perfect birth scenario huh? We I would like to know exactly when and how everything is going to happen and how long it will take. Because that is near impossible I think it would go like this...

For a vaginal delivery-
My water breaks on the weekend, in the moring, on the toilet. This way I will know it is time instead of trying to figure out if my contractions are real and playing the waiting game.
Husband is home!
Go to the hospital and they send me right up to L&D.
L&D tells me i am well on my way.
I get an epidural as soon as the serious pain hits.
Hopefully my labor moves along enough to not require any Pit. I hear it is more intense with Pit.
Pushing is effective and baby comes out with no tearing or the big 'E'. No family will be in the room besides my hubby...I don't need to show my goods to everyone i know. Besides their presence would probably drive me mad! Only close family comes to the hospital in the coming hours and days for brief visits...respecting our need for rest and bonding.
I am a person who needs her space at times like these :) And, of course, baby is happy and healthy.

The other ideal scenario for me would be to require a C section but with no drama or emergency attached. Because I like things to be planned and in control the idea of of a C section is very nice to me. Because this is my first I my perceptions may be off, but it really does seem appealing to me.

How about you? What is your ideal birth experience?

That's funny about the dog names. I have a chocolate lab named Charlie, and I had a chocolate lab/rottweiler mix named Winston.

koraljolin - Friday, 18 April
Hey there! I'm feeling great and enjoying every day. I think it's so cool you had a friend named Jolin. I had never heard of it before, and just came up with it after meshing my hubbys and his moms name together.
Hope everything is going great with you. Are you still running? I just started teaching and taking classes more, and it sure does help with my energy levels.

Thanks for replying. I went to the gyne today for my regular check-up and mentioned it. Seems it's nothing to worry about as long as it's not smelly or itchy. Pattern I haven't yet noticed but yes, sometimes it's a whole lot and sometimes not much at all. All the best for your days ahead. :-)

Thank you so much for your kind words!!! It just took me by surprise that I gained so much in only 4 weeks but you made me feel better about it!! I will save your message to read when I am feeling down..LOL

mumofsix - Tuesday, 15 April
Me again. Just another thought. As you were saying they can last for hours, it can be from too much exertion that irritates the uterus to contract for a length of time. It may be an indicator to put your feet up more.

mumofsix - Tuesday, 15 April
I am also getting these cramps and I put them down to BH. It is normal to start feeling them more now and they will increase as you go along further. Often they come on with activity or worsen with activity but you can also have then while resting especially if you are in a bent over position. You only need to worry about them if they are becoming a regular pattern and gaining in strength and length. By this I mean maybe getting them regularly at 10mins then becoming every 5 mins and so on. This can mean preterm labour.
The ones I get can be uncomfortable and Like you say feel a bit like period cramps. They can last for a few minutes at a time but they are not in a regular pattern even if I have a small time of getting a few in a short period of time. Just think of it as your uterus getting in some exercise. If you are really concerned give your Midwife a call but it sounds to me like you have all the common signs of BH.
I find that when my babies turn head down I start to get a lot more of them as their head starts to wiggle on the cervix and stimulate BH. I think my baby turned head down last week as I have a lot more low down pressure and the BH have begun.
Hope this is of help. Take care

Thanks for the nice comments! I seem to notice awkward stares from senior citizens mostly. I think older people tend to look at young adults like we are still children, not realizing our actual age. Then they are probably wondering why such a young person is having a baby. If they only new I'm 30 and getting gray hair already! LOL! Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope you are doing well!!!

kerry1983 - Thursday, 10 April

Thanks, we picked the name Samara for it's meaning because we thought we were going to lose her during the pregnancy. We wanted a name that meant "Protected by God" and then we found Samara and loved it.

Hiya, I bought a CD titled Natal hypnotherapy. It's a UK based program by Maggie Howell as I live in the UK. Have you had any experience with hypnotherapy? Take care xxx Jo

Hey Chicky! Floradix can be found at 4 health food stores in Madison WI - http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/USA/Stores/_SearchResults.htm?vProvtxt=Wisconsin&vCitytxt=Madison&vCountryIDtxt=3. I get mine at Whole Foods in San Diego. I know it is a bit pricey but I am telling you that it made a world of difference for me. It was a noticeable difference in 1 day. I do not make any money from flora at all and have zero ties to them. Their product just works great for me. I passed my anemia test with flying colors but my energy (which is generally off the charts) dropped off considerably and I had a feeling it was due to low iron.

A natural birth is so important to me because I believe drama creates more drama and I do not want my baby to come into the world drama-filled. To prepare, I created my own plus copied others affirmations and have been reading them every day since I hit 20 weeks. I believe in prepping the mind. Here is a site I found that I digged their birth plan and affirmations - http://www.geocities.com/johnandkriswallace.

I also went out to YouTube and watched so many natural birth and hypnobirth videos that I would scare you with the number. For me knowing that others were able to do it gives me strength and courage to know I can do it.

I also am not going to the hospital (UCSD birth center is in hospital) until my contractions are 2 or 3 minutes apart. The longer you can labor at home the better chance you have at one...plus you wait long enough and you get no choice. I also picked up from the library Ina May's book plus watched her on YouTube.

I just wrote you a book plus some…sorry but it just flowed out of me. I love talking to people about a natural birth because generally people look at me sideways when I do. It is nice to talk to someone who is in agreement. Best of luck to you!
