welshgirl - Tuesday, 3 Jul Hey Tara, Im 27 weeks and 4 days one of the ladies on the site delievered her baby at 26 weeks he can breathe on his own but needs a ventilator in between. If a baby at 26 weeks can breathe im guessing a baby of 37 weeks should have no problems. Good Luck x
katesha - Tuesday, 3 Jul Hey Tara my water broke with my daughter at 37.5 weeks and i had her via c-section cause she was breech and she was all fine and had no problems breathing. I would definetly not worry about it. Also my brothers wife had both her kids at 35 & 36 weeks and they were all fine and breathed ok by themselves. All the best
sharon0901 - Wednesday, 20 Jun Hey Tara! I saw your question about washing the clothes as I was browsing around, and yes, I think it is a very good idea to wash the clothes and any garment the baby may be touching before you bring your bundle home. I worked in clothing retail forever and am aware of chemical and dyes used. They could irritate the baby's sensitive skin. When I had both of my girls, I washed their clothes, bedding, and even my nursing clothes in Dreft for the first three months, just to be on the safe side. Dreft didn't make the clothes fade, and it worked well on spit up stains too! Good luck!!!
MAMABEAR - Friday, 8 Jun hey Tara-i know how it feels when the doc doesnt seem as concerned as you. lots of women get gestational diabetes-it can affect the mom more than the baby, so for any ache or pain i would call the doctor to make sure its normal. the baby will be fine, if its too big they will get her out early, so dont worry. just remember its better safe than sorry. you cant go wrong by asking to make sure.
katesha - Thursday, 7 Jun Hi Tara I can see why your so upset. I cant believe your doc said see you tuesday. I know its hard but try not to stress about it till then and if you have any incling of feeling funny or not right go straight to your hospital always better to make sure you and bub are ok than not. Hope everything is ok and All the best.
AngieY - Friday, 1 Jun I also have GD and was totally freaked out by it when I was diagnosed. but after going to a 2 hour class with a diabetic dietician I felt MUCH better. she helped me realize that just eating healthy was huge and the pricking of the finger wasn't bad at all. the machine they use now is amazing and you can barely feel it. originally they had me testing 4 times a day, but after a few weeks of monitoring my levels the doctors said I could go down to only testing 2 times a day. I do not have to have insulin which is awesome, that really worried me. so, i've basically just been eating really healthy and i get out and get moving a lot more often than i was. the 'reward' of having GD however has been that they are now going to be giving me weekly ultrasounds and twice weekly non stress tests from now until i deliver....woohoo! the more i get to see my little girl and make sure she is okay the better off i am. i'm praying it goes away after the pregnancy. and the FIRST thing i'm going to eat after the birth is a HUGE banana split! and im NOT KIDDING :) good luck to you, you will do fine. just take good care of yourself as best you can. and always remember you did not cause this. my doctor reassured me that it's just something in the placenta hormones that blocks the insulin. lucky us for being the far and few that get it though huh? anywho, take care and good luck!
carey - Friday, 1 Jun Hello - I have GD also. I was pretty upset about it first - I had to monitor my blood sugar and follow a low-carb diet. I liked the diet because I was suddenly eating more healthy and stopped packing on so much weight. But that alone didn't help my blood sugar and my doc said I should take insulin. I cried over this and was again, really upset. I started insulin this week and my numbers are finally getting to normal and I feel really good about that. I know it sounds scary, but it can be controlled and will go away after the birth. So try not to be upset and know there's others out there going thru the same thing!!! Promise it's not that bad!! :)
Julianna - Friday, 1 Jun Please don't blame yourself for the fact that you are gestational diabetic. In pregnancy, the placenta can produce an enzyme that blocks your regular insulin. Although a change in diet can help, you did not cause yourself to have this condition. I have been gestational diabetic with all of my children and my insulin levels have gone back to normal after I deliver. Although gestational diabetes only affects a small percentage of pregnancies, it is more common than a lot of people believe. With this pregnancy I even have had to administer insulin injections to myself because diet didn't control it enough. DON'T blame yourself, jsut treat it so you and your baby stay healthy!
