Oh yeah....I also spoke with the lactation consultant. She didn't say much about tricks to keep him awake other than, change his diaper, get him naked, and tickle him during feeds. However, part of the problem with us is that I'm not supplying as much as he needs and he is having a sucking problem. So he just gets comfortable and falls asleep using the nipple as a binkie. Then when I take him off the boob he wakes up and cries. She is having me use Playtex Airvent Slowflow Wide nipple bottles twice a day. It helps them learn to suck to actually get milk. The other trick to these bottles is to have the nipple only half full while feeding so he has to work harder. For the supply issue she gave me Fenugreek herbal supplements to take two twice a day and to drink lots of water, get rest, and pump, pump, pump!

Hey. My son is 14 days old and two days ago his right eye started having yellow goopy stuff. I talked to the dr over the phone and she said it is very common in newborns to have "tearduct stenosis." It is where their tear ducts collapse and the eye has a hard time cleaning itself. She said to just wipe it with warm water and that it should resolve on its own. Things to watch for....green or pus discharge, swelling or redness of the eye, redness of the whites of the eye. Hope this helps!

Hi my little boy had the same thing. My midwife said to me wipe it with warm water on some cotton wool. That sorted it out for me.

My son has that to. It's a clogged tear duct. Just massage the corner of his eye by the bridge of his nose and use a warm washcloth to get rid of the gunk when it comes out. I heard of breast milk working to. Works better than eye drops. Just a few drops, but I haven't tried that yet. Maybe look it up or mention it to the Dr. and ask about it.

Hey!! I read your post about your babies goopie eye!! My daughter has it also, and its a blocked tear duct!! WHen your baby has it, wipe it away with a warm wet wash cloth and while your feeding, you have to massage it to try and un clog it. What you do is, with your pinkie finger, go in circular motion where the tear duct is, and then run your finger along side the babies nose, make sure you do it with consistent pressure. Just do this a few times a day, I do it everytime Madison is eating, and it will slowly get better. I've noticed Madison's is getting alot better!! Its completly normal!! I seriously think it bothers me more than it bothers the baby!! *lol*

I saw your post about the discharge coming from your son's eye - it's probably a clogged tear duct. You should just wipe the eye with a warm washcloth. My son will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and has one. The dr said that it will usually correct itself by 9 months and if it doesn't then he may be referred to the eye dr for surgery. Good Luck!

I bet the berries made it change clor- food can do that. Yres it is safe. In fact, I bet your baby already drank a bunch and you are just seeing the last of it.

hey, don't worry. I'm having this problem too. My son was born on 8/2 and I feel like he thinks I'm a human pacifier. I tried the pacifier but he just spits it out b/c he knows it is not the breast. I'm hoping to get a lactation consultant over tomorrow to see if there is anything else I can do. I love breastfeeding but this is very exhausting!!!

I also have the same problem with my son, Jayden. He loves to sit there and suck, and suck, and suck.My problem is that he just is comforting himself. I will use my clean finger in his mouth or I will use a pacifier. The soothie one I think it is called or something. I won't give it to him a lot,but my doc says that since nursing is established he will be fine not to get nipple confusion. I will give it to him when he just wants to suck(normally in the am) and he sucks and looks around and is happy. I know some people have mixed feelings about them, but for Jayden, Mommy and Daddy it works for us. I wish you luck on this subject. I didn't want to use one, but I found that it is ok ocassionally to give it to him and he is fine going back to the breast. He knows where his goods are. Good luck. Let me know how it goes for ya.

had my boy 8/2 and had the same issue...at my dr. appt today she said to feed 10-15min each side and use finger or pacifier(if feeding is well established). in between. they have a need to suck but u don't need to be a human paci!!

I disagree with the comment below me. I would continue to nurse as long as your baby wants. Babies are ment to suck breast not plastic. He may be trying to build up your supply. I would just let him nurse instead of giving him a bottle.

mommastetson - Tuesday, 12 August
I have the same issue. Babies suck for comfort and when my breast gives out (ie too sore) I give him a pacifier. The good thing about him breastfeeding so much at once is that he'll sleep for long periods. Don't feel bad about setting boundaries when breastfeeding, if your confident his tummy is full then try handing him to daddy to distract him from wanting to suck . I go a little crazy after feeding off both breasts twice and he still isn't satisfied (i know he's getting plenty of food).

hi. today is my duedate too and I just lost my mucous plug and bloody show today. I lost the first part of plug yesterday. don't worry. the plug means nothing. you can lose it and still wait 2 weeks or 2 days. some women don't ever even see it. isn't it frustrating that nothing is 100 percent indication of labor? not even contractions!
