Message to all: This message is not intended for any one person, but a general statement to all members of the site. After hearing what you all think in regards to posting photos on the forums, we have modified the rules and ask that everyone familiarize yourself so that the site continues to remain friendly for everyone, including new members. In an effort to be respectful of all members of the site, we ask that members do not post more than ONE photo or video per person in the weekly, monthly and information forums. Your ONE picture should be small in size as well. Any large photos will be deleted. You are welcome to post as many pictures as you would like in the photo books, which were created for the purpose of sharing and viewing photos. You may also post as many blogs as you would like with photos in them. We understand that many members enjoy posting and viewing pictures on the forums, but this is not where they belong. We must keep the pictures on the boards to a minimum so that the written comments can continued to be written and read. Otherwise, the numerous amounts of large pictures squash the messages and they become missed. Message to all: In the last 2 years you all posted 1.1 million photos to the site, and that needs a little maintenance. We are currently renaming all photos from the personal photobooks in order to speed up the site. Some, or all your photos may not show while we are working on the photobooks. You don't have to do anything. We hope to have all photos sorted in about 24 hours from now. You can upload new photos to your photobook while the computer is working on your other photos. Thanks for reading.

That's awesome! Routines are fantastic. We've had Ava on a nighttime routine since she finally started breastfeeding properly, which worked great until this weekend - we were away from home, in Calgary doing some Christmas shopping and she started teething which threw her totally off. We just got home today so I'm hoping she stays asleep tonight in her familiar surroundings. I haven't gotten my period yet either. We don't intend to start thinking about #2 for a couple years though so it can stay away as long as it wants to lol. I am however worrying about how long I can breastfeed now - I have rheumatoid arthritis which just started coming back with a vengeance this weekend so I'm really sad that I may end up having to get back on my meds sooner than I wanted to. We'll see though, I've just started one thing that is safe for Ava and so far it seems to be working well enough. That's good that you've found groups to be with. I'm in the same boat - I was getting really lonely and then I discovered a little program for moms that happens to be just out my front door pretty much, and then we have a walking group (only between 2-5 of us each time though lol) on the days that we don't attend that program. Ryan just quit his job so he's been home more looking for work. It's stressful that he's not working, but I know he'll find something soon. Unfortunately before he was commuting over an hour to and from work every day and working 6 days a week, so he only saw Ava for about 45 minutes a day before her bedtime. And she doesn't nap during the day at all, no matter what I try, so it was impossible to adjust her schedule to allow him more time. Plus, the job was in car sales, which you may be able to imagine are pretty much in the toilet right now with the economy how it is, especially given that all towns in the East Kootenays have populations of less than 20 000 people ... nobody is buying and it simply isn't worth the cost of gas to get out there every day anymore. Oh well. Well I'm glad things are going well for you as well. Did you find that being a mom completely transformed you? I found pretty much as soon as I got out of the hospital that I was a totally different person. I don't know if I mentioned it - I'm not going back to work, I'm going through the licensing process to have a daycare at home. That's something I never expected to say lol! I can't wait though. I am absolutely fascinated with babies and their development and can't wait to watch a bunch of them grow! And at the same time I'm hoping to complete my masters so by the time Ava is ready for school maybe I'll go back to work. Who knows. It's exciting!

Lol yup me too, I just finished telling Ryan's parents that Ava will tell me when she doesn't want to breastfeed anymore and they looked at me like, well, how are we gonna take her then? Guess what, you won't! So other than YOUR breastfeeding adventure, how do tyou love mommy-hood? How is Tali doing>?

lizzie287 - Monday, 3 November
Oh wow! Same to you, congrats on perservering! I thought I had it bad, I was seeing the lactation consultant and a public health nurse at least once a week since Ava was born up until last week, just to monitor her weight. I think I'm finally going to stop going though, because at this point I feel like I'm wasting their time lol. Jeez, I thought I had thrush last week but the doctor said no and refused to give me anything. I'd had to go to the ER because it was a weekend and she told me Ava must not be latched properly, and that I was engorged. It took everything in me not to get indignant about it! Poor Ryan had an earful from me one night before Ava was feeding properly. I had finally refused to give her a bottle, that girl was GOING to breastfeed - she'd come so far, I wasn't willing to continue screwing her up with a bottle (because every time I gave her a bottle, all the work I'd just finished doing went out the window). After 2 hours of fighting at 3am and put her in her bassinet, punched a wall and started making her a bottle of formula, then broke down after Ryan said "You can't make her starve" ... DOES THIS LOOK LIKE i'M STARVING HER?????! LOL Poor guy ... that was a good cry after that one, and she never did get her formula. Anyways, kudos to you - seems us persistent ladies are few and far between!

I have also had EVERY problem under the sun but from about 8-9 weeks we have been successfully feeding with no more problems. It has been smooth sailing now and we are in a routine. Now you can relax and enjoy breastfeeding too. It is all worth it once you get everything sorted. It is actually easier than having to do bottles etc like everyone said but in the beginning it is damn hard work and constant worry. So glad it has worked out for you as well. Feels amazing doent it?

ChristineA: I also take iron supplements and my little girls poo is green all the time. It is like an army green colour. It used to be yellow and seedy at the beginning but hasnt been for ages, She is 14 weeks old. I didnt realise it was supposed to be yellow? Must be our iron supplements.

I increased my calorie intake.. Not so great for my waistline, but good for my milk. I work out a little more to keep from gaining weight but it seems to keep up the fat in my milk!

Thank you so much for your comment. It has gotten better the past few days because I dont pump as often and put him back on my breast more. I pump every 7 or so hours insteasd of every 4. Hopefully that will continue to get better. I'm definately willing to do what it takes to not make the swtich to formula as long as possible. Good luck with your little one! Thanks again for the support. I dont know what I'd do without this site!

Our babies do sound similar! Ava has been fine sucking anything but the breast since birth. I did try a shield, but she would only feed off of that after I'd given her a bit in a bottle to calm her down. And even then, she doesn't really suck with the shield, she lets the milk pool up, slurps it up, and then screams some more. We gave in very early and gave her a soother. I didn't want to but otherwise I would never have gotten any sleep at first! Ryan's a giant suck and doesn't like to hear his baby cry. He goes for bike rides every time I try to get her on the breast because of all the crying. I'm just shocked at how calm I stay when she's getting like that. Same with the lactation consultant. Now I'm starting to worry if I'm producing enough milk though. It seems Ava should be going up to 3 oz soon, she still roots around after having 2 oz (but the soother seems to stop that and she doesn't fuss after I give her the soother, so maybe she just wants to suck, like Tali!) ... but whenever I pump I only get 1.5-2 oz every 2 hours. I don't know how long I'll last pumping for ... I might have to go to formula :(

Oh that doesn't sound very good, shoving her head like that! Hour and a half long feedings don't sound too great either ... I don't think I could handle that. Although I may be headed there. Ava is starting to understand what my nipple is but she still doesn't know what to do with it. Even if I squeeze the milk out she doesn't suck. She's up to 7 lb 7 oz now as of Thursday so as long as she's healthy and happy, I'll do whatever I need to. Tali Anna is beautiful!

lizzie287 - Thursday, 31 July
Aw that's fantastic! Congrats! Three hours of pushing ... YIKES! You're my hero doing it without an epidural. There's no way I could have done that. And gas was totally my best friend too lol. Her poo or your poo? lol ... Breast feeding is also a huge challenge for me right now. I've got a lactation consultant coming to see me once a week right now and it's not doing any good ... Ava is bound and determined to suck on anything BUT my nipple. The good news is I've managed to find the way to get her to sleep through the night. I just don't know how long I'll allow it to continue ... She does NOT like to be put down some nights. She'll manage for a few hours and then the screaming begins, at which point I have to feed her, change her, then cuddle with her on the couch, where I stay for the rest of the night lol. It's precious, she's so cute, I don't mind. It absolutely blows my mind being a mommy. She's such a beautiful child. And you, my friend, need to post pictures of little Tali! I'm glad you're doing well and that everything is good.

At risk of totally being a jackass I have to ask ... is there a baby yet??? I really hope you're doing ok, keep me posted :)

blessedmom2b - Thursday, 24 July
It's almost humorous (if we could look at it that way) just how many of us in this week are going through this with friends and family - all the phone calls! At least I'm learning NOT to be one of those ppl when I have other friends going past due and wishing not to be reminded by constant phone calls! I'm close to my mom in ways too but she can have a critical spirit and she also tends to think idealistically about her own labor and doesn't remember the first weeks being hard. Her kind of encouragement is telling me I should try to have a positive attitude yada yada yada and that just makes me mad...but I'm hoping she will help out some having her here. She, too, was surprised I didn't want her in the labor room. She keeps saying "but won't Jay want to leave once in a while to go to the bathroom...can't I come in then" I really don't want that...it's just stressful and this is a special time with our husbands where 2 are becoming 3 and I'm like you, I don't want a million ppl around me. You can vent anytime - this website is great for that! Congrats on losing your mucus plug! I did over the weekend and have contractions that I can also sometimes track and time for hours on end and then they fizzle out! I've learned to not take them too seriously (which could be a bad thing) but I'm tired of getting my hopes up! I really don't want to be induced but it may come to that. I hope you have some more dialation progress when you go in to your next appt. Mine is tomorrow and i'm hoping I'm more than "2 and some change" when I go in. I haven't asked for the sweep yet...heard it might be bad for someone w/ group b strep but I guess I can always ask him. Labor dust to you!!:)

lizzie287 - Saturday, 19 July
Tricks ... you won't like it ;) No, I was really sick so I went to the hospital, only to find out I was on the verge of toxemic so they induced me. It sucks that they didn't do your sweep - I got a stretch and sweep when I was only a fingertip dilated. Although all it did was give me a weekend of false labour. Keep your chin up, the end is near!

lizzie287 - Friday, 18 July
Hey :) Just wanted to let you know that Ava was born on Tuesday morning! Birth story is posted. Hopefully your doctor can give you some indication of what's happening, and be positive that it'll come early! Keep me posted, I'm so excited to see your little one!

Linnea - Wednesday, 16 July
Just read your post & I feel the same way... I would love to go into labor and not tell anyone except my husband. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to be induced next week since my due date was yesterday and I'm not even dilated. Not sure how I'll keep the induction a secret... Why can't people understand that even though they mean well, they make things more stressful for us by hovering?! Oh well. I'm trying to just be laid back about things and not let everyone get to me. Good luck with your baby!!!
