Thanks! :) I know I had to do it! He looked so crammed in his little bassinet! I was being selfish...hehehe

Erica, that is so funny. I worked with children with autism for the past 6 years (though i am now in school to become a dietician and hopefully work with special needs and their diets), and I thought the same exact thing. I used to sit with kids while they had their tantrums for hours and I thought it would toughen me up. I always said I will be good at blocking the crying out but you are right, when its your kid, it is sooooooo hard!!

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
that is great! and each time will get easier and just think all that crying she did probably mad her a little more tired so maybe she will sleep longer! yeah for you!!!

maryb318 - Thursday, 25 September
We're attempting the cry it out....so far I've found more success when he cries I go and comfort him, but don't pick him up. My husband wants to keep trying the cry it out, so we'll see what happens. He cried for an hour and a half two nights ago....it just broke my heart!

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
that is kind of up to you to decide has she napped at all today?? does she seemed tired?

JuliesGirls - Thursday, 25 September
Oops, I guess I wrote that because Finley sleeps on her stomach. Actually, just pat her on the tummy then and tell her it's okay. She even says it's okay to pick her up momentarily, so that she stops crying and then put her back down. But yes, leave the room after you do this. I know it's hard because they won't stop crying, but they are confused because this is not what they are used to. You have to retrain them. It will take a couple of days, but it will work. Tracy says "train them in the beginning how you want them to be in the end". So the sooner you do this, the better sleeper she will be. Anyway, good luck!

oh and she now sleeps from 7pm - 3pm or more. If I put her down later she wakes up earlier for some rerason. 7 is the magic # so I am sticking with it. I feed her about 4 ounces or more at bedtime and maybe some bananas or a 2oz hours before that

QUEEN-RI - Thursday, 25 September
SOOO CUTE!! Ok to answer your survey - Imani is good now for the most part about naps and bedtime so either she will fall asleep after I feed her (boob or bottle) and I lay her down or if she is real tired and tries to fight it we can put her on her stomach and pat her back and she's out. Rarely do we have to let her cry it out but it happens - she has to be totally full and extremelly tired though. So no I don't really rock her to sleep

JuliesGirls - Thursday, 25 September
Oh and by the way- my daughter finally started sleeping better after we started laying her on her tummy. It was scary at first, but she is so much more content!

JuliesGirls - Thursday, 25 September
Hi Erica- In response to your post about what to do after 20 minutes of crying, I highly recommend "The Baby Whisperer" by Tracey Hogg. She specifically addresses this issue and will make you feel confident in following through. As with any book, you might not agree with everything she says, but she does offer a lot of good advice with sleep issues. She recommends letting them cry for a set period of time and then only patting the baby on the back to comfort. It usually takes patience and at least three days of doing this, but the results will be worth it in the long run. Hope this helps.

We didn't bother with a high chair. We have the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster Seat. It's way cheaper ($25), lightweight, portable, easy to clean (no fabric and the tray is dishwasher safe!) and straps right onto any chair. I can't see any reason to get a big old expensive high chair when we have the booster - we love it!

buca - Thursday, 25 September
I have the evenflo expressions and reaaaaaaaally like it. only down side is the plastic tray insert does not easily fit into the dishwasher to clean. its too big

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
thats good! when we moved ragan from her bassinet i thought for sure she would fight it but she did really good they only thing we had to come to terms with is that she will only sleep on her belly if she is on her back she will sleep for like 30 min and then wake up! Talk to our doc about it and he said its fine since she is rolling over back and forth still scary thing to think about if anything were to happen!

DANNIE - Thursday, 25 September
I have a chicco polly highchair and love it! It costs about 150.00- Your little girl is beautiful!!

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
yup that is the one thing i learned from my first is that from the get go they need to be in a crib or bassinet my second was so horrible at sleeping in her crib i let her sleep in the swing out of desperate need to sleep and then trying to break it was a true task but i did the 20 min trick and it did work!

Basically, I watched for signs when he was sleepy, the yawning fussy stuff. I laid him down and turned on his mobile, gave him a kiss, and walked away. I went back in every 5 minutes and patted his back. It took several days for him to get it. I started it at naptime, cause in the evenings I was so tired that I just gave up! The biggest key is to make sure they are tired cause otherwise he would scream and scream and it was pointless. In the evenings, I give him a bath (every other night) then read him a book or play with him on my bed, nurse him and then lay him down, spin the mobile, kiss and walk out. He still fusses but no major crying, and then it calms down. THe fussing lasts about 5 minutes and then he is asleep or just laying there humming himself to sleep. When I say fussing, it isnt crying, just that whimpering stuff. and that doesnt happen every night either. You just have to stay consistent. When he wakes up I run to him, let him know I love him and play. That still lets him know I am always there for him and not a mean mommy. I started laying him down like this when he was about 2 months old. And like I said in my previous post, there are days that he doesnt even want to do this and I just stick the boob in his mouth ;0) and let him go to sleep! I just make sure at least once a day he lays down by himself so he doesnt forget. Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions.

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
yes i did it for naps too funny its easier with naps maybe cause it isnt 11 at night!

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
when i started doing it for the first time I started at 10 min and then 15 and then 20 so she would kind of get the idea that each time it was a little longer no problem i know its a hard thing to do and all the info you can get to help you will make it a pinch easier! :bigsmile

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
i would usuaslly check the diaper and if thats ok try the bottle again, if they fought it like they weren't hungry then it was a kiss of the forehead and back into the crib, check the clock and wait... i know it sucks but eventually they get the hint and i think it took at total of 3 days and it did get easier (shorter time) each night!

3girls2008 - Thursday, 25 September
hi- my daughter sleeps about 10 hrs a night on average takes a bottle and goes back down for about 2 more hours. She does fall asleep on her own but most of the time she is out about 2/3 of the way through her bottle. I did do the crying out thing with my first and second and I swear by it! As long as you know there is nothing wrong (i.e. not hungry no poopoo diaper etc..) then 20 min is ok i know some people say its harsh but if you go running in every time they peep they wont learn how to soothe themselves to sleep! Hope this helps!

maryb318 - Thursday, 25 September
I LOVE the video with the dogs, it's too cute!

I keep thinking about when they are teenagers and staying out partying at night, not coming home, etc...How will we be then!? LOL
I know it's thinking far in the future, but it'll be here before we know it!

Lizzy - Tuesday, 23 September
I'm not going back until May...But I'm from Canada and we get a year off. My husband has been bugging me to have him take the last few months, which I am considering because being a stay at home mom is not for me! LOL Who knew I'd miss work?
I saw your post that your daughter is sleeping better! My guy slept through 8pm-8am the last 3 nights, but even though he's not waking up for his 4am feeding, I still am! LOL-they have us trained from such an early age!

Thanks for the add! My pregnancy is going very well just incredibly slowly. I can't wait to see this bundle in my belly. Think she's going to be the splitting image of her Dad

Hi! The reason for baking the fruits and veggies first is because it breaks them down and makes them easier to digest. If your little one has a sensitive stomach you'll want to bake them until she is quite a bit older, if not then I would at least bake most things for a month or two until she is doing well on solids. Bananas and avocado's though are great first foods and don't have to be baked or processed, just hand mash with a fork and mix with breastmilk or formula until they are really runny. The site that I found the most helpful is http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com, there is a lot of great info on there on what foods to feed when, how to bake/cook each food and which fruits/veggies freeze well, etc. The biggest thing to remember when making your own carrots is to not use the water that you cook them in (usually, with all other fruits/veggies you'll want to use the water as some of the nutrients will have boiled into the water making it great for thinning them). Carrots can be high in nitrates though so be sure to use fresh water and that will help to cut down on the nitrates. Usually when I needed ideas of what to make I would go through the baby food isle and just look at what options they had for each stage and then make my own. I would always do large batches and freeze them in ice cube trays and then as soon as the cubes were frozen transfer them to a labeled freezer bag. Then I just chose his three meals the night before and let them thaw in the fridge. If they needed to be heated most of the time I would just heat them in a bowl over hot water as I tried not to use the microwave as it also decreases the nutrients in foods. Let me know if you have any questions! If I think of more later I'll write again. Good luck, it's so much fun making food and so rewarding knowing that you're giving them the best! OH, I also bought all organic (I didn't even really know what organic meant before I had a child :-)).
