I find the best way to fold these cloth diapers is to place it diagonal. Fold the top and bottom corners together until the touch or slightly overlap. Then take the side corners and fold across the top to make almost a triangle. Then it pins at either side. The other folds I would use make a diaper too big to pin at either side, so it would need one pin only, in front, and I don't think that's as neat, also it puts the pin near her belly button, which I don't like doing.
Penny's feeding really well. I bought a bottle for her before she was born, as I found it necessary to use one with my other babies at least once or twice in the early days, but I haven't had to use it at all with Penny, and she's getting nice and chubby!
Heather-08-01 - Monday, 3 November I was trying to get back sooner to tell you not to rely wholly on what you pump because often if a baby is a good nurser they will drain you better than a pump. The baby will also do a better job of stimulating you to produce more milk. All in all, you are doing a great job working so hard to BF your little girl and I really wish you all the success you deserve
Heather-08-01 - Monday, 3 November $268!!! I've never heard of an LC costing that much! That is absolutely insane. Holy crap, I will send you the # of the LCs I've spoken with here or tell me where you live and I'll find one that's reasonable for you there. I've had a really long hard road, but if I keep having success it was sooo worth it! There were so many days of tears and self-doubt, and I know that my partner secretly wanted me to quit because it was hard on both of us, but we finally made it! Do you only get 2oz from both breasts combined? Do your breasts feel empty after you pump? You might want to try some herbs such as fenugreek and blessed thistle to increase milk supply. Oatmeal is also wonderful for increasing supply. Soak 1c of oats in 1c of water overnight (I refrigerate mine) then cook in about 1c water the next morning. I ended up having to take a medication drug called motilium to help get my supply up, but that would be a last case scenario for you. I also recommend that you try to nurse and follow with pumping every 2 hours when possible if you are trying to build up your supply. Gosh, sorry for rambling, I guess this is a topic near and dear to my heart and I'm so willing to help you and impart any knowlege to you that I can. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you or help you in any way.
kendall - Sunday, 2 November aww...I love her cute little lips! so precious.
Heather-08-01 - Sunday, 2 November I really recommend that you go see a LC so that you can be sure things are headed in the right direction. Nipple shields should be used with the help of a LC for that very reason, so that you can be sure your LO is nursing well, because they can be deceiving; you think they are sucking away and getting tons of milk, but that isn't always the case. Also, if she isn't eating as well as she needs to be, the nipple shield can tank your milk supply (this doesn't happen to everyone, but it happened to me). The LCs I've been to visit were only $35 per visit - which may not be cheap, but totally worth it. I think it would give you some peice of mind especially since it has taken a little longer than you would have liked to get your nursing relationship started. I've been through so many different BFing issues with my son - failure to latch, weak suck, nipple shield, endurance issues, weaning from nipple shield, low milk supply, and now, finally @ 3 months we are finally EBF, thanks to a ton of research on my part, 2 different LCs, and an occupational therapist. I just don't want you to think you are alone in the BFing difficulties. If you don't want to go see an LC right away at least call and speak with one about your situation right now - the over the phone advice is free.
ozbaby - Saturday, 1 November Im so glad i could help. That is what i did and or works beautifully. She slept for 3 hours with her pacifier ( we call them dummies on Australia) the first time i gave it to her! She loves it. I only give it to her at sleep time then she knows its time to rest. I find that helps the routine as well. Let me know how you go with shorter feeds. When i did that it made no difference to her feeding schedule and she was the same as if i left her on for longer) My baby cut her first tooth yesterday!! Im so excited. She is 4.5 months old. She will look so cute with some little teeth but hopefully she wont bite me!
Heather-08-01 - Saturday, 1 November Hi, I was reading your question in the BFing section. First of all, congrats on getting your baby to BF!! SOME babies can eat within 15-20 per side. My baby is 3 months old and it takes him 30-45 min total to eat, however when he was younger he was a slower eater. Wait for your LO to stop suck/swallowing - you can hear it often and feel the difference when they swallow if you pay close attention. The easiest way (other than counting poopy and wet diapers) is to go to a BF support group meeting at your local hospital. They will do a feed and weigh there and you will be able to weigh your baby before and after they feed and you will know exactly what your baby is taking in (down to the gram). It might really make you feel more confident to see what your LO is eating. Congratulations again... was it the nipple shield that finally worked or did she just finally latch on?
