I can now her 40mls in about 10 minutes for her top up feeds but that is about it. I have started pumping after her feeds to get the thicker milk. Then i dont have to use formula. She was weighed yesterday and finally gained weight! She gained 160 grams in 3 days after losing 30 grams in 8 days so i am very relieved. All this pumping is working. Apparently the breastfeeding gets a lot easier by 6 weeks. It is hard work until then though. This is my 3rd baby as i have a 9 year old daughter and a 14 1/2 year old son. It is easier as you know what your doing when it is not your first so your more calm and relaxed but the workload of a newborn does not get easier. I forgot how much hard work they are before they get in a routine. Once your in a routine which takes about 6 weeks as well then things will run smoothly and you will be way more organised. I cant wait for the routine to start as i cant even get dressed some days until mid afternoon and i eat breakfast at lunchtime most days! Sometimes i feed her twice before i eat anything. But it will definitely get easier when your in routine. This website is great for advice and to reassure you that your not alone. I always read the breastfeeding forum and the 0 months forum.

Thats great that your little girl has gained weight. We still havent gotten back to the birthweight yet so i have a nurse coming every 4 days to check her weight and see how things are going. If she hasnt gained i would ask about the tablets. Some of the mums on the breastfeeding forum also say they can get fussy and pull at your breast to get your milk to come down. Or your flow is fast and they get fussy. It is so hard to know as you cant see what they are getting. I was told to listen for her swallowing and sometimes she was sucking but not swallowing much.
Breastfeeding is hard work. Apparently it gets easy by the 6 week mark. Are you in a routine yet? WE are not. She feeds sometimes 3 hours and the last day she has gone 5 hours. Your little girl looks perfect. She has the most perfect little face.

I had a similar problem and i have been put on motilium tablets to increase my supply and i am giving my daughter 40mls of either expressed breast milk or formula after every breastfeed until my milk supply increases. My breasts were not always filling up and were always soft. I have noticed a difference in 3 days my boobs are fuller and i hgave more supply. Sounds like you are having supply problems. See your Dr as you may need to take the tablets to help. My daughter was fussy on the days my boobs were soft and would get angry when feeding. Since i changes to top up feeds afterevery feed she has gaines 160grams in 3 days whereas she had lost 30 grams in 8 days before that. Is your baby gaining weight ?

Boobs!
My boobs vary every day. Some days they are really big and full, and yes they do hurt. Then other days they are not full! The only thing I can say is nurse...and if your breasts are sore. Right before nursing, apply a warm facecloth...you don't have too but it depends on your tenderness. Then message your breast circular motion in all the sore areas. Then put your baby on your breast....soreness is based basically on clogged ducts. I am still working on unclogging the ducts it does take a while but it is SOOOOO worth it to message it!

we did the baby bonus yesterday so hopefully it will come soon, as we got married in march I hadnt sent away for my new birth certificate so i have to wait till thats gone through to register cooper. I went to the b/feeding lady today she helped me heaps she cant belive that my nipple isnt killing me as it is cracked that bad. problem is cooper has been eating like he is sucking through a straw instead of opening his mouth wide open and having it full of breast not just nipple, she said if i continue like she showed me it should heal in a week or so and then i can hold him across my body agagin instead of the football hold, i hate it! so that went ok. i got up at 8am 2 get myself showered and i didnt end up gettn cooper bathed before we went. he still isnt bathed! his sleepn right now. i could have done a bath at 12pm but i was starvn then i fed him then he slept again, now his been up for a feed and sleepn agagin!! katie might be gowing through a growth spurt, last 2 days cooper has wanted feeds allot during the day then last night i had a 5hour gap until 10.30pm then i had 2 1/2-3hr gaps during the early morning... not 4 hours like previous nights. it would be awesome to have a 5 or 6 hour gap during the early morningS!!!!(nights 12am-6am)
Hope you had fun at the races!

Well, I can't try the breastmilk thing, as I'm not breastfeeding. :( But I may try the saline drops. Did she cry? Do they sting?
My house is very busy with three boys, but my older two are in school full-time and in day camp every other week through the summer. I still want a girl though, I'm thinking of adopting though because I HATED being pregnant. I don't think I could do it again.

hi thanks! I am feeling better today. I bathed Cooper at about 7pm I went to bed at about 8.30 and was up at 10pm, 2am and 6am for feeds. Nipple will take a while to heal, I think I do need thoes shields as my nipple sticks to the other ones. I was so scared my niple would rip off! Daniel is on days off again for 4 days. He wants to watch tour e france, so maybe he will chnage cooper when he wakes then I can feed him and go back to bed! He feeds every 4 hours during the night and taday he has feed quite a few times, but today he stayed awake for an hour or so a few times so I got him on his tummy for a few mins and got his play mat out he was staring up at the hanging toys and I took one off h=and he had it's leg in his hand, it was cute, I changed him on the mat too and he weed twice!! Funny.
Your poor birds!! My cats and dog are feeling neglected too, dog wants to walk and sleep inside and the cats want to sleep on the bed in the bedroom. One cat scratches at the door sometimes during the night! So noisey. last night I caved and let him in he jumped up on the bed and went straight to sleep. When I went back to bed at about 8am, Daniel followed us at about 9ish and the cat was in the room as the door didnt close properly and danile kicked him out!
Ahhg I know it's early days but it can be a struggle! I probably should be having a snooze, but I want to get this baby bonus paper work and birth cert paper work done!
Hope you are having a good day!
Hey do you have a facebook profile?

catsa79 - Friday, 4 July
I just commented on the foru wow she sleeps for 6 rs at night!! I am up for 1-3 hours during the night feeds, he doesnt always go straight to sleep , plus i have problems with burping him, he has only done one burp and that was today, he gets a tummy ace later on or hccups.. last weigh in i didi had lost about 12kilos already i think that was 6 days after id given birth... I have been for 2 walks sucks been winter hey!! i just want to get out there and walk walk walk... but i spse when i get some more sleep i will be up to it !

catsa79 - Friday, 4 July
Hey I see you are using a dummy too, I used one today for about 2 hours it settled him down straight away so I could change him and get him to sleep. But when he woke for next feed I took it off him and didn't give it back!

catsa79 - Friday, 4 July
 cute!!

catsa79 - Friday, 4 July
Hi!!! MMM i have been tempted to try bottle as well maybe i will give it a go, my hsband is keen for me to do it so he can feed him if I want to sleep and so I can take off if I have to and he can feed then too... I havent expressed since wednesday. I know what you mean about what we used to do before, I never imagined life would b this way with a newborn! I can't wait for a few months to pass and be 1/2 normal!!
Cooper needs a change and a feed about every 3 1/2 to 4 hours and during yesterday and today about every 2-3 hours!! AgHhh

you could be losing pieces of your plug....but when you lose the whole thing, you'll know. i lost mine this week and it was a huge brownish pink glob. it was quite nasty. so...you'll know. if you're starting to, tho, you should take evening primrose oil tablets...it will speed the process of it coming out, and maybe speed up labor! :)
