Oh you poor thing... Every hour sucks. I am pretty lucky. We have not had nights like that yet. She knows night time and after i feed her she goes straight back to sleep. I love it. She normally had either 6 hours , feed then another 4 hours or 8 hours a feed then another 2 hours but the last 2 nights she has fed every 4 hours through the night. I put her in her cot yesterday in her own room.... She slept for 3.5 hours in the middle of tha day! I kept cchecking on her paranoid. It is cold and raining her so maybe thats why. I also used to cuddle her to sleep before putting her in the basinett. NOw i cuddle her and put her inn the cot awake and i dont hear a peep from her. YAY!!! I weighed her early and she had gained 120 grams in 5 days. Nurse said average 100 grams a week is normal with some weeks bigger. I think 500 grams is too much unless hse has stretchmarks! ha haI will weigh again monday to check the weekly gain still. She is soo long. I might check her length againn as i think she seems longer...I cant fit her in the kitchen sink to bath very well anymore.

oh she was not really unsettled last night but did not have her nprmal 8 -9 hours she fed every 4.... She is in her cot for her first nap now and went straight to sleep ( normally i cuddle her to sleep but not in the cot) she looks so tiny in there but sooo cute.

I think im going to weigh Emi today instead of waitig until Monday. She looks chubbier in the face and even my 9 yr old daughter commented she looked a bit fatter i the face so im super curious! I just got some great milk trays to freeze breastmilk. I posted about it and added the link so have a look. Very clever idea. Daddy had her screaming last night when i was at the shop and he could not feed her and we had a bit of an arguement. She was hungry an hour early so i thought id have time to get dinner. Anyway these trays seem to be a great way to freeze milk. Will try it out today. Already expressed 1 ounce to freeze so far..

Wow that weight gain is pretty good. I guess they gain in length or weight but not both. I am looking forward to weighing Emerson on Monday as i am sure she looks chubbier in the face this week. I really hope she has gained though as it has been a few weeks since we had anything near 200 grams. If not ill check her length again. She looks so long now. That sucks that you didnt get much sleep. Im sure im due for one of them soon. Last night she slept 9 hours then fed and slept another 3 hours. She woke after 6 hours but went back to sleep before i got to her so i went back to bed! I bet it is tonight im up with her as we have had 3 days out at kids sporting events and im exhausted so tonight would be the least convenient...

did the epidural give back pains???

mamabare30 - Tuesday, 2 September
lol....haha we shall see!! evan actually said he thinks he's gonna be a "jolly" kid!! so cute :) we're both big laughers and jokesters so i guess he believes our little man will be a barrel of giggles! can't wait to find out! I am definitely beginning to get excited to meet our little creation.
so funny how you described your dad, that is eXACtly evan's dad! when we told them we were pregnant he just shifted from one foot to the other looking weird and constipated... i just don't think he knew what to do with us informing him that he's gonna be a grandpa, translation = you're old! lol

Definitely sounds like a growth spurt to me!! Emerson has had 3 weeks where she would sleep pretty much all day and feed some days every 2 hours but was not gaining much. The past 2 weeks she gained 75grams then 20grams and i freaked thinking maybe she was dehydrated and could not stay awake!! BUt some angel on here wrote to check their length if their weight gain is low. I did that and she has grown 7cm in 3 weeks! No wonder she had not gained weight she was growing in length. So now i am confident with feeding. This week anyway! ha ha Good luck Wednesday. Let me know how you go as our babies are twins i think. :)

sweetxcheekss - Tuesday, 2 September
thanks for the response! wow you dilated pretty quick! i hope i will too because i havent dilated at ALL yet. =( but how come the epidural didnt work for you?? most of the time theyre suppose to work arent they? thats what im afraid of... i know the contractions hurt.. but are they bearable at least??? =*(

ozbaby - Monday, 1 September
I had people saying i sbould just put her on a bottle for weeks and weeks and saying they dont know why i perservere. It used to piss me off as it was important for me to breastfeed this time. I think sometimes someone sayinng wow well done your still perserverinng would be a much better booster for your confidence than why bother!
We really dont have any problems FINALLY at 10 weeks but it has been hard work. the thing i love most that makes me so happy that i kept going was when she is finishing her feed she comes off, looks up at me and gives me a great big smile and does some baby talk then just lies against my breast. It is so cute but that is a new thing this week. Im sure once you get to my point you will be so glad you kept going because any minute it will just be easy and work and it is such an amazing feeling to get there. Dont give up and you will know what i mean. My mum said to me yesterday " oh im so glad you kept going and can now feed her" and she was the one telling me the most to put her on the bottle at every problem! Follow your heart and you will be glad you did.

ozbaby - Monday, 1 September
I cane believe we had the same problem. What i did was offer her the bare nipple first and only when she screamed and refused to go on then i would put the shield on for the rest of the feed. Each time and each side i would always offer the nipple first and within about a week she no longer cried for it, she does cry when she finishes one side until i put her on the other side, She has not worked out there is 2 sides yet. I find comfort that someone else has the same issues as it helps to get advice and know your not the only one "failing" at what is meant to be natural and easy. Everyone i know here who feeds has no problems AT ALL and i had problems latching then with my supply then with weight gain then cracked nipples, mastitis, blocked ducts and then the shield. Now at 10 weeks she feeds well with no problems.... Fingers crossed...

happymom - Sunday, 31 August
thank you! We did that earlier & it worked. We just finished trying & she refused the bottle. We just have 2 keep working with her. Hopefully by tuesday afternoon she will be a lot better. thanks again.

ozbaby - Sunday, 31 August
I was using the shield until she was about 7 weeks old and was able to wean her back to bare nipple and it made a huge diffference to her feeding time, she literally went from half an hour each side to 5 - 10 minutes each side. I always dreaded going out and getting stuck feeding somewhere for an hour but now to stop for 20 minutes is no hassle at all. I think they are far more efficient feeding without the shield and i also noticed i can hear her drink whereas on the shield i could see her swallowing but not drinking. She also used to just come off with the shield but on bare nipple she gets fussy when she has had enough and usually cries for a minute. If your empty after 5 minutes feeding then she got what she needed and i would not worry, I felt at first she was starving as she took an hour to feed but i am sure the shield is to blame and also as they get older i think they learn to be more efficient. Seems a lot of us have the same problems and hurdles so its great to be able to hear from other mums. Makes you feel normal....

Birth was just awful. 22 Hours long, 6 failed epidurals, 2 failed spinal blocks and lots of vomit! Had to be cut and Theo got himself into some weird position so had to be taken to theater and he was dragged out with forceps screaming his little head off! Theres some pictures on my profile.I'm breastfeeding Theo but expressing when we're going out or if I need some sleep and he's been great so far! He happily latches on to either me or a bottle but I'm struggling to keep up with him, he just wants to feed all the time and I dont seem to be making enough milk for him.

Do you thik they will co operate eventually? I feellike Im waiting for him to grow out of this but what if he doesnt? Do fussy eaters usually grow out of it? Because the thought of going through this for the next few months kills me . Each day is a lottery , I never know if it will be a good day or if ill end up in tears because I think hes starving himself...Today: He will take one boob non-sheilded and not the other.. crazyness. Ive read a bit about breast refusal and it makes me feel better that there are other people going through this as well and its like actually a documented thing and not just my weird son!

ama-llama - Friday, 29 August
Thanks so much for those tips. Its good to hear she is being a bit more responsive. I got some inspiration yesterday adn decided that if he want to eat he had to have it non-sheilded. He knows how to , and he latches (thats never been the problem) but he wont STAY on and he gets distracted and gives up. Will def use the syringe trick. My GOD is this difficult . He hardly ate anyhitng yesterday.. lets hope today is a bit better. The stress is really getting to me

mamabare30 - Friday, 29 August
yaaaaay for success! ah, that must be such a relief! ooh i can't wait to see more pictures :) i hope you have fun with your dad, he'll get all gooey and gushy over her, it'll be so cute!

one more thing to add to my list of ailments... had to have an emerg root canal.... pooooo... i can't believe everything that's happened. it's brutal now my face is swollen and killing me! geez eh, will it ever end?!!!

anyway, have fun with your pop :)

carlybarleyx - Wednesday, 27 August
We're all fine thanks hun! Theo is such a good baby, hes so cute I could just eat him! Hows little Ava?

Saw that you are having problems with the nursing- Im right there with you sister! I cant get him off the sheilds and now he doesnt even want to nurse WITH the sheild. Im just so upset about the situation , and starting to resent my poor little boy. How horrible is that? Im going to be getting a heavy duty double pump tomorrow and I really didnt want this day to come. Ive told myself I will exclusivley pump until he is three months then re assess the situation. The thought of giving him formula makes me just too sad

Jake has total meltdowns too. He gets to the point where he cant catch his breath and I just wait for him to vomit but he never has! His face turns bright red(except for the white on his eyebrows where all the blood is pushed away from his face being squished up). It breaks my heart but there isnt anything I can do when he gets to that point, he kinda has to bring himself out of it. Cant wait til he's two and having a meltdown in a store!! I hope noone calls the police...lol It was so hard to watch him do that when I was trying to feed him, it broke my heart and I cried half the time too. I had a meltdown of my own one night when it was taking over an hour to get him latched on. I had to put him down and I went out of the room and cried and yelled and damned all the moms that didnt have any trouble nursing!! Then after that very episode everythings been pretty good! So maybe you should try having a meltdown too! lol
