ChristineA - Monday, 4 August Awww...thanks! I was told babies were born with the sucking reflex! To get Tali going at first we started with a finger on the roof of her mouth...at first she didn't like it but then learned how to suck on it, then I expressed colostrum for a while and tried feeding it to her out of the corner of her mouth while she tried to latch...she has a small mouth and doesn't like to open wide enough to latch which would trigger her reflex. The sheild though awkward seems to be working for me. You say you have a lactation consultant working with you? Have you tried the sheild? It sounds like our babies were both have the same little issue. Have you checked out La Leche League in your area? My mom is down here from BC and is getting married on Friday. One of her good friends is a maternity nurse, breast feeding consultant and doula so I can't wait to drill her with a million questions! Your perseverence will pay off soon! Is Ava getting lots of sleep? How are you managing with that? Tali has little fits sometimes where nothing seems to satisfy her. I know once it was something I ate, but sometimes I get the impression that all she wants to do is suck even if she just finished a feeding. Last night I just fed her laying down and let her suck on an empty breast for a while and she was happy with that. I'm so tempted to get her a soother sometimes...or a swing. When she gets restless or overtired like that Frank takes over, puts her in her car seat and swings it back and forth for a while, which of course gets heavy!! So I think the decision has been made that we are getting a swing. When she gets cranky like that, I seem to end up crying with her! Maternal instinct maybe? haha! Keep up the great work and get lots of rest!
ChristineA - Thursday, 31 July Hey there, posted some pictures! Breastfeeding is definately tough... every feeding is slowly starting to get better. My little one didn't have this sucking reflex at first we had to work on that. Plus every nurse that would come to help me would push on the back of her head to force her on my breast and she had a little bruising on the back of her head from the delivery and so she would naturally get really upset! Feedings take forever...like 1.5 hours. But at least now she feeds with the sheild, which is not ideal but whatever works!!
carlybarleyx - Thursday, 31 July wow she must be really strong! Abby could hold her own head up at 2 weeks and crawled at 7 months but she took forever to walk! She was just lazy lol. Glad your enjoying motherhood! I am so fed up with being pregnant, do you miss it? xxx
carlybarleyx - Wednesday, 30 July Hey mummy! Hows everything? xxx
ChristineA - Wednesday, 30 July YES!! BABY HERE!! Tali Anna was born on July 28 at 3:54 a.m. at 8.3 lbs! I had contractions for 4 days every 10-20 minutes before I even started to efface and then evenutally dilate...but once it started on Sunday night, it didn't take long after that...oh and three hours of pushing! But she is sooooo gorgeous! I was so happy 'cause I had been scheduled to be induced that morning. No epi, just fentinol (sp?), and gas. I tore a little when her shoulders came out. She is absoultely gorgeous! I love her sooo much! Breastfeeding is a challenge right now, but slowly coming together. Now...for that first poo...
How are things going with you?? Keep me posted!!
AChance2Dream - Tuesday, 29 July Can you believe you finally had her!! I still cant believe it!
Well I hope he get the job! I am sure the move will be fine with the little one! At least you can set her down and be able to do some things.
I am good! GETTING BIG! I am getting up at least once a night now to go pee haha! He likes to hit my bladder I guess. I have been having dreams again that he is coming really early and I try to put him back in because I dont think he is ready haha...such weird dreams. His movements have slowed down the last couple of days, I think he is already running out of room in there haha. I cant believe I am going to be 28 weeks next week!! Goodness how time flies!
mamabare30 - Tuesday, 29 July well thank god for small miracles that come in the form of a pill eh?! ;) seriously, so glad that you two are doing well.. she is such a little precious bean :) i had a girlfriend who went through hell trying to breast feed, she ended up going to a breast feeding clinic out of desperation to see what the problem was...worked miracles - she breastfed her daughter until 1year old after that! she swears by helping hands, so why not look into having someone come in to help you or go to a breast feeding clinic (your hospital should have an area for this too)...?
anyway, glad the bod is doing ok, even if you do have to pop a pill or two! i think the closer i get to the birth the more i fear the pain of my back and hips ripping apart! i try to be all zen about it and try not to let my fear get to me, but it's still there nonetheless. and our condo date got pushed again so we may not be able to birth at home, which will really piss me off! i am counting on having a tub available to take the pressure of my joints and muscles... i refuse to have an epidural so... holy geez i'm getting anxious even thinking about this right now. okay i need to go chill and find my inner peace...(i am so stressed out right now) ciao for now bella!
mamabare30 - Saturday, 26 July hey missy, just thinking about ya... drop me a line and let me know how things are going! hope your bod is feeling ok ... :)
