Hi, Everything good so far. He is having surgery tomorrow to try and repair it. They think they will only be able to close the skin over it and then we will have to go back in 6 months to close the abdominal wall. Say a prayer for us! I will let you know how it goes. Cathy

Message to all: This message is not intended for any one person, but a general statement to all members of the site. After hearing what you all think in regards to posting photos on the forums, we have modified the rules and ask that everyone familiarize yourself so that the site continues to remain friendly for everyone, including new members. In an effort to be respectful of all members of the site, we ask that members do not post more than ONE photo or video per person in the weekly, monthly and information forums. Your ONE picture should be small in size as well. Any large photos will be deleted. You are welcome to post as many pictures as you would like in the photo books, which were created for the purpose of sharing and viewing photos. You may also post as many blogs as you would like with photos in them. We understand that many members enjoy posting and viewing pictures on the forums, but this is not where they belong. We must keep the pictures on the boards to a minimum so that the written comments can continued to be written and read. Otherwise, the numerous amounts of large pictures squash the messages and they become missed. We ask that this modification be respected, therefore any member that continues to post numerous pictures a day will be deleted from the site. Thank you all for helping us keep the site friendly and welcoming for all members.

Message to all: In the last 2 years you all posted 1.1 million photos to the site, and that needs a little maintenance. We are currently renaming all photos from the personal photobooks in order to speed up the site. Some, or all your photos may not show while we are working on the photobooks. You don't have to do anything. We hope to have all photos sorted in about 24 hours from now. You can upload new photos to your photobook while the computer is working on your other photos. Thanks for reading.

Hi, No I guess its a giant only because of the size of it. It is the size of a grapefruit. Therefore the surgery isnt possible for likr 6 months. They ran some tests today including a kidney test and a echo on his heart I should hear later the results. Ii have been trying to feed him all day we have to take it slowly. I am only producing about 2-4 ml each time I pump so we are giving him some by suringe as I try to get him to latch and suck. Patients patients!

Well They were talking surgery right away but its way to big to consider it. This is called giant omphalocele so there would be no way to do surgery for a long time.

Hi, Thanks!! He is very healthy thank god. I am able to breatfeed him BUT as of yet he isnt interested so I will keep trying. They have me pumping every 2 hrs I am not producing anything really yet. No he doesnt have a feeding tube. He has an IV for fluids. The Drs are willing to wait a few days to have him breastfeed then use formula. The Omph is considered the large one. It contains mostly liver and a very small amount of intestines. The are saying no surgery now. They are doing the paint and wait method. Using silverdene cream to coat it to toughin it and it promotes the skin to grow over it. They are saying maybe no surgery for 6 months or so. BUT they are also saying as soon as he is feeding and still pooping he can come home. I am so glad he is the way he is and we are so blessed!! I can only wish you the best too!! I am glad I can help you!

HI all!!! Had Benjamin 1:31 yesterday 12/1/08. He weighed 7lbs 4 oz 19.25 inches long!! He is perfect other than his birth defect. It is bigger than they expected. He is doing wonderful! just has an iv in and they said I can start breastfeeding him. Its up in the air how long he will be here. they are saying the wont do the surgery for a few months. I should be able to bring him home before the surgery. As far as me the c/s went great I am sore and was throwing up after a few times. I am better today and going to walk to NICU. I will post pics in a few!!

Hi, no intestines they are saying just the liver. One ultrasound said no stomach and another shows very small amount in and the rest out. I guess it can go in and out. The high risk DR said its all liver. Not really saying if its a good thing or not. I take it as good...less to have to get back in. I am going thru sooooo many emotions now being I am 2 days away!!!!!! I was crying just last night being scared for him scared for my surgery and scared of the outcome. I am soo excited too that I will be meeting him finally!! I'll tell ya it wasnt easy to get thru but now I am at the end I am happy. Just take it day by day and look forward to your appointments to get more info. You will get thru it just fine. Well write back i still have 2 days LOL take care

peasquack - Thursday, 27 November
Yep Monday is it...We are scheduled for the 1st c/s of the day but I have to call there at 5am and they will let me know what time to come in. If there is an emergency they will go first since mine is scheduled. Plus we have almost a 2 hr drive there. They did say in the beginning that it was all 3 organs but last couple u/s they said just the liver. The stomach is iffy. Seems like a tiny bit could be in depending on what angle they look at. Like I said nothing was ever said about the heart and of course I pray like hell they are right! I am glad to hear that if it is an issue it will be mild. Only thing i could imagine if its affecting the heart is that the omph is higher up on the abdomin. Well he has a lot of growing to do so things could change. I will def try and keep you updated as soon as I have a minute lol. take care and say a prayer for us!! Cathy

Hi!
I had my last dr appt monday. I had my last bpp and growth ultrasound. Everything looks good...Appears that it is all liver in the omphalocele. They originally said liver stomach and intestines. They have never said anything about his heart other than everything looks good. Is that what they are saying for you? What will that mean? Well I only have 4 days left till I meet him!! I cant wait, altho I am VERY nervous and scared!! But happy and excited!! I will def keep you posted as I can. I have a lap top now and will be taking it with me. I assume I can get wifi somewhere. Well let me know what else you hear. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!
