Thanks for the response about breastfeeding and nipple peircing... It was something crazy that popped in my head on the way to work thismorning...I find myself being a little parinoid lately even though I already have children

Hi Starby! I pumped around the clock every 3 hours for awhile maybe 2 months straight and got a good supply that way. Your body will make what you take (supply and demand) So basically I was pumping the same amount in ozes but I pumped less frequently. It didn't effect my supply at all. i felt engorged a lot but I pumped out that milk but my body had to wait longer. It just worked! I am also on Motilium though.... but I wonder if I stopped taking it if it would make a difference. Your breasts will get used to it! but right now pump like a maniac and try it next week and see what happens! the am pump is the main one I get enough for him for the day from that alone! How much do you get in the am? Also get the baby on the boob even if she doesn't latch it actually helps your body produce milk! Even just the contact helps. Do you know about Fenugreek too?

Hi Starby, I've had mastitis 3 times ughhh it sucks but you need to see a doctor. mastitis comes from a clogged duct that becomes infected.. or a cracked nipple that is exposed to babies mouth which can have bacteria in it. Thrush is a different story it hurts on the nipple and the nipple has a shinny appearance or white. Mastitis is common in pumpers especially when you produce a lot of milk and don't expell it from the breast it can leak into breast tissue and cause mastitis. If you don't have flu like syptoms than applying hot and cold compresses and pumping through the pain will help. My fiance had to massage my breast which was painful but got the lodge out. Basically with mastitis you need antibiotics and any doctor can prescribe this. ugggh I feel you pain babe. Even with an infection the milk is still good for your baby.

I also just noticed your comment under sex after childbirth. I had an episiotomy and my hubby and i waited 8 weeks to try and it hurt. Every time for the mext 4-5 times it hurt.....but less each time. My baby is now 4 months and it is feeling better, really no pain at all, my PAP check up hurt the scar tissue though/

Mom2Dom - Saturday, 19 July
I just had it on fourth of july, clogged ducts, tender left breast, achy and fever. Just call your ob and tell them you have mastitis and immediately need a perscription. You dont even have to talk to your doctor or go in, just tell them you need meds.

littlecavalier - Saturday, 19 July
If you are feeling achy, have a fever or feel like you're coming down with the flu it is mastitis and you need to call your family doctor asap as it goes from bad to worse really quickly. If it's just a clogged duct you need to work really hard to try and get it out or it will turn into mastitis. Take hot showers and let the water pour on your breast, try to massage the plug out. Usually the plug will actually be in your nipple and my sister told me to squeeze it like I was trying to express milk and work it out like that. I didn't have any luck that way though. The best thing you can do is nurse as frequently as possible on that side and hope that the baby will clear it for you. You are supposed to aim the baby's chin at the clog while you nurse, even if this means laying your baby on the bed and manuevering over top.

Thankyou for responding to my question re: pumps & bottles.
I love you'r daughter's name too :)

Thanks for your reponse! It's good to know I'm not the only one pumping excusivily and in some pain because of it! I bought a really nice pump (medela pump in style). The sheilds I use are the standard 24mm and I thought they were the right size...they kind of suck in a lot of skin though so after I pump my poor nipples are like the size of a small marble! They only make one size thats smaller and I thought they might be a little too small and not get the whole nipple in there but IDK. Did your pain/blisters go away yet?

Milk bank?? There's a milk bank? or were you kidding? my mom always teases me about selling my milk because I also produce an insane amount of milk!!

babymakes3 - Friday, 4 July
Glad I could help. The shells are sort of weird, but they really worked for me. I had the Medela brand. A lactation consultant gave them to me while I was still in the hospital. I also used the Lansinoh cream every once in a while too before feeding to sort of numb the nipple a bit. What us girls have to go through!

babymakes3 - Thursday, 3 July
Just read your message about sore/cracked nipples. I strongly recommend getting 'shells' (different from shields) for your nipples. I wish I had known about them w/ my second son. I used them this time around & they were a life saver. The shells allow your nipples to air out bt. feedings while still wearing a bra & shirt. I wore them for about 2 wks on & off when I was having trouble. Best of luck. Hang in there.

My baby tilts her head to one side as well. It has caused her to be a littlde flat on that side. I broiught it up at doc appt. and she said when i have her on her back to get her to look at toys on the other side...she's getting better. doc said it's normal (head would even out) it'skinda like being right handed or left handed....I wouldn't worry.
hope this helps

I know it is rough. I had several melt downs. I never experienced PPD but I can relate to it. I was crying almost every day because I really really wanted to breastfeed. I almost gave up a few times but we finally got it right. I'm sure you will too!

Everything is well here. I had a 3d scan today also some 2d it was the most amazing thing I could have done and strongly recomend it to anyone! He has chubby cheeks and his daddy's nose, it was precious. Blood pressure was perfect, no sign of any complication. and we are almost there! Sorry to hear about the preclam. that's awful! I would hate to be put on bedrest, but just remember everything we go through now will be well worth it in the long (5 week run) haha
