vinsmom - Tuesday, 4 November thats what i thinking too thrush... grrr how do i get rid of if..?or make it better?
tiffsept15 - Tuesday, 4 November How do you get so much milk pumped? I had to pump for a few days and the most I did was 5 oz, but after that I could only get 2 oz if I was lucky. I just hope I am not starving my little one if that is what he is getting. Thanks!
kater - Wednesday, 8 October hey i just read your post in the breastfeeding section, and i wonder which growth charts your doc has? the world health organization had recently brought our a new set of charts based on soley breastfed babys from all over the world. the ones which were in use were done during the 70's, and were based on formula fed babys, so if you think your bub looks healthy, im sure there is no need to worry. you can google the new charts, its pretty interesting to know that for years mothers have been made to feel bad about their breastfed babys weight gain, when its possible they were perfect all along
littlecavalier - Tuesday, 2 September I also transferred Travis from the bassinet to his crib at 5 months :-). The first night I was so sad not having him next to me so I made my dog sleep in bed with me (my husband works midnights). It is sad that they grow up so fast but I'm finding that I enjoy Travis more and more (didn't know it was possible) as he gets older.
ozbaby - Tuesday, 2 September Thats excellent. So glad i could help. Im sure he will be just fine. You will be comfortable with it in time. Funny thing is my daughter sleeps on her back now... She had just turned 9.
littlecavalier - Sunday, 31 August I think that at five months it is very much ok if he sleeps on his tummy. It has always been my understanding that as soon as they can roll over they can sleep whichever way they like and it's safe. I have a video monitor and it is the best baby item I ever received. It really puts my mind at ease as far as sleeping goes and it worth the cost, especially if you plan on having more than one. The one thing that I'm sure you already know, is that there shouldn't be any pillows, stuffed animals, blankets in the crib. With that said though I always used a blanket for Travis because he is a very still sleeper.
ozbaby - Sunday, 31 August My 2nd baby only ever slept on her tummy so i let her. THe nurses were horrified when they came to the house for a checkup. I was happy as long as her neck was strong enough to lift up and move side to side so i put her straight down on her face and she lifted her head up and turned it to the side so i knew she would not suffocate. She was crawling at 4 months as her neck and arms were so strong from sleeping on her tummy. We never had a problem. My new baby sleeps on her side and they say both ways is a risk... Do what suit you and your baby.
AshleyD - Monday, 28 July Thank you so much. It is mainly just a couple of my hubby's family members his dad included that I would have a problem with. I cannot imagine him coming in and seeing that even with a cover it would be too close for comfort ya know? I know I will be in hospital for a while because I have to have a c section and another surgery afterwards. They will cut me vertically also so I will be there longer to recover. I am stressing horribly! Thanks a ton.
softkitty - Sunday, 27 July Thanks for your experience with Mylicon. I'm glad I logged back on before opening the package. We're going to return it and buy the gripe water instead.
lynna - Thursday, 24 July Hey I saw your question about the lids... I got mine at baby depot they are for the dr. brown bottles but the fit the medela bottles.. they were pretty cheap here too! good luck, oh and i am sure you could prolly order them online...
monikaOH - Thursday, 24 July If you but storage containers (hard plastic ones) from medela they come with white lids that fit Medla bottles as well.
DeeRod - Thursday, 24 July I thought the cap thing was weird too! I bought a set from medela that has three bottle, 3 caps and nipples. Did you see that?
erica93 - Sunday, 20 July I had the same concern and it didn't turn out the be thrush. White on the tongue apparently is common and my baby has blisters on her mouth from sucking. I would go to the doctor and check it out just in case, though.
newbiemama - Thursday, 3 July hmmm trying a different nipple is worth a shot but maybe you should be there to monitor the old and the new and see the difference. My son is taking in pumped breast milk and I use medela bottles and nipples they are gentle flow and they still work fine. There is no age restriction. maybe try a new one but be there to see B/C it sounds like taking a bottle is a new expereince for you as well.
3rdtimer - Tuesday, 17 June Hey I noticed your concerns with feeding and eye contact and such and looked at your page and saw your baby was 4 weeks early. So in my opinion you should really be looking at development as he should be from his due date, rather than his birth date. My little Clem was two weeks early and although the health professionals say that's full term and I should look at milestones as if he was, it's wierd, even now at 8 months he seems often literally about 2 weeks behind in milestones! E.g. he suddenly developed much better fine motor skills (delicately grasping things with his fingers) at about 7.5 months when 7 months seems to be the average. Anyway I just offer this as further reassurance... of course we all worry, it's only natural. I'm sure in a few months you'll be looking back and wondering what happened to all that sleeping!
nancy26 - Monday, 16 June Hi hon - saw your comment in bf... I don't know much about it (first timer in waiting here), but I know that at my antenatal classes the midwife gave me a spreadsheet of milestones to tick off with bf, i.e. the baby has a good latch etc etc, how many nappies etc... and in the negative column (i.e something to be discussed urgently with the community nurse or midwife or doctor) is a question as to whether the baby is alert for feedings or if he/she has to be woken for feedings and is a "sleepy" baby... I'd really say ditch your paediatrician and find another doctor, at least get a second opinion. I'm not sure why it's considered a bad thing, but better safe than sorry, and at least if you get it sorted out, then you can both relax into feedings :) All the best!
josslyns-mama - Thursday, 12 June Thank you so much for the advice. and your little one is adorable!
johna - Thursday, 12 June Thanks and congrats to you to!!!! I need to get some fenugreek, everyone talks highly of it.
JOSSLYNS-MAMA - Wednesday, 11 June Thanks, I don't think that she is eating htat often. She even sleeps 6-7 hours at night then every 3. I am wondering, do I make her eat every 3, becasue she does not cry or act like she is hungry. We go to the dr next week, but I am worried about it now.
Debra - Tuesday, 10 June hi! you know your boob is empty by feel or go by the 30 min rule. 30 min per side max ! more than that baby is using you as a pacifier. Have a look at my VIP site for more on the breastfeeding section. I have more tips on there as well. You will know how much baby is getting by how wet diaper got. If you are changing baby every 3 hours and diaper is pretty wet, then they are getting enough to eat. Babies will cry more and it doesn't mean that they are hungry (see VIP page on dunstan baby language) but they may just want to suck. Which is normal and a comfort issue.
littlecavalier - Thursday, 5 June That is definitely the biggest disadvantage with breastfeeding because we never know how much our babies are getting. I think you said that you have a doctor's appt next week? What I would do is continue to wake him every three hours during the day and then just feed on demand at night. Then if you go to his appt and he's gaining weight the pediatrician should let you know if you should continue to wake him during the day or just feed him when he asks. I know that until my son was gaining steadily I was told to continue to wake him even at night every 3-4 hours. I'm glad that he's not sleeping all day and all night, I was a little worried about him :-). Hope you have a great rest of the week! Good luck with your little one!
Bri - Friday, 30 May After taking Amoxicillian for ear infections my son came down with a cronic case of diarrhea. It was awful and lasted three months before we finally realized the Amoxicillian killed the good and bad bacteria in his system. They think it is ony temporary and when I cut dairy out of my diet his diarrhea stopped. I am hoping to introduce a little bit of dairy back in slowly. My sister also cut most dairy products for gassiness and spit up and it also worked. My nephew's problem isn't intolerence but they say dairy can be the culprit for a lot of problems.
