femi - Friday, 14 November Thanks for the advice! I like the virtual museum tour bit. Maybe I can try to find something like that for them since I will be using a SmartBoard and showing them a powerpoint that has still life paintings in it. They will be using paint to draw a still life painting of grapes. So, the tour would be awesome beforehand. I'll see what I can find online! Keep me posted on when you find out teacher of the year. How's your little boy doing?

femi - Wednesday, 12 November Hey! Our second graders are having a NYC fair at the school this Friday. They go around from class to class to participate in some NYC related activity. I am in charge of Museums. Last year, I taught them about still life and they had to draw an object in the room as though they were still life artists. This year, I want to make it a bit more exciting/creative. Any ideas on how to make museums fun for second graders?
ihave6kids - Tuesday, 11 November i just posted new pics
nezbit - Sunday, 9 November http://www.cafemom.com/group/92056 here you go.
femi - Saturday, 8 November Oh, wow! I hope you get some sleep soon. I use saline to clear out Lia's nose. 8ozs and 1 tbsp salt i believe or maybe one tsp. Don't remember. She did well after the shots; I was shocked. We gave her tylenol a few times here and there, but barely any. I hope the next round is just as good. She only got three shots 'cause I opted to get some other vaccines later when she's a bit older.
I'll check out that book. Hadn't heard of it, but it truly is a different culture from the mainstream culture, I'm sure. Thanks for the name of the book.
kt08dec88 - Thursday, 6 November thanks for the comment on my question that i asked... However, about enjoying these last few days while they last,... i can not do that... i hate being pregnant...im not one of those girls who love it, believe me...i cant wait to get him out of me, of course to see his cute little self, but also for my comfort cuz this is killin me. lol
femi - Thursday, 6 November I feel bad. I was talking to a parent at dismissal about something important regarding her ADD son. We were the only ones out on the yard and I had a late student with me. Her brother showed up but called out to her from a gate. She started to call my name and poke me to get my attention and since I try to teach my kids manners--particularly when two adults are speaking--I ignored the gestures. She eventually started to walk backward and wave goodbye. I looked and said that she needed to wait. Her brother, with attitude, replied: "Miss I need to go. I'm late." And I replied something like, "But she needs to have more respect. I'm speaking with a parent. She needs to say excuse me." And he said, "Well, she's telling you she needs to go, pay attention to her." And I said reiterated what I had already said about having manners when two adults are speaking, etc. Her brother is a teen. He had such attitude and I definitely shot some back at him because it bothered me that he didn't even think to say, "Hey, say excuse me before you interrupt," or that he didn't say excuse me. My group this year is sweet but they love to talk when you're talking and they love to start chatting it up when two adults are talking in the classroom and they don't have good raising-hands manners and now poking me excessively to gain my attention? I've had a cranky day.
femi - Wednesday, 5 November So what were the results? Did you win?
So, the sitter has been really great. She knows cool remedies that I have never tried; very natural, home stuff. I like how nurturing she is, and I feel comfortable leaving her every morning. She seems to be doing well. I am still considering being a stay at home mom, though. As for her sleep, she sleeps at least 6 hours straight, but we still co-sleep. It's wonderful 'cause I get to have that bond with her after being away for the whole day, but we can't cosleep during naps. I need her in the crib! She goes down every now and then in the bassinet, like at the sitter's, but, mostly, she sleeps in our arms and wakes up otherwise.
She got her shots yesterday and did pretty well. She got DTP, Polio, Hib and Rotavirus. Three shots and one oral. Poor thing! She cried and cried until I rocked her to sleep and gave her some tylenol when she woke up. The nurse said she looks just like me, and most people say the same. She's got my eyes, my ears, my nose! She's got her daddy's hair and eyebrows, and some expressions, but she does look more like me, my sis, my mom, my side of the family ... she even has more of my complexion.
But she's a daddy's girl already! Let's see if her looks change, though. She's still so young.
I'm so tired today. Can't wait for this week to be over.

sugarcubesandcottoncandy - Monday, 3 November Thanks for replying. i went to the doc today and he said it was just gas and that i had nothing to worry about. has given me medicines to help her heal. :)
roseplus1 - Monday, 3 November Well, after the appointment today it will be show time. My MIL can hardly wait to began feeding her...LOL I should tell her the doctor said no solids until she is 6 months..her reaction will be priceless.
roseplus1 - Monday, 3 November We are going to start this week on solids. I stopped stressing by taking your advise, I realized that if I have to supplement I would rather have to do one bottle than all formula (which would have happened if I kept stressing). Since I made that decision I have not had to supplement. I can not wait to start solids I will let you know how it goes.
sugarcubesandcottoncandy - Monday, 3 November hi tto/ just wondering if his intake of formula/breast milk has reduced since you introduced solids. how many ounces does your little one take in a 24 hour period? just wondeering because i introduced cereals last week and my daughters intake has gone down drastically.
roseplus1 - Sunday, 2 November It is funny that you say that. I have also slowed down and taken the extra time to pump once at night and right after her morning feedings and I am back with in a 1/2 oz of normal. But I also taking a fenugreek tablets so I am not sure if it is the tablets or the extra time. But I also have stopped stressing. I am glad that you are almost back to normal. Soon it will be right on the mark. Have you started solids yet?
femi - Sunday, 2 November Oh my goodness! Congratulations!!! When are the results out?
Lia's sitter is amazing so far! She's got her sleeping in the bassinet (we can't get her out of our arms--any advice?). She plays with her and is quite nurturing. It seems that our little girl is doing well there.
aliwitbaby - Thursday, 30 October My son had bad eczema when he was born so we thought we'd try soy formula and see if his eczema got better..... then he ended up being allergic to soy, I do think it was from giving it to him early. But I also think he has all these allergies because my husbnd was and is the same way, so more genetics than anything. I didn't exclusively breast feed either so that may have had something to do with it. I'm goin to be more careful with this next baby ,
Mommy with three cuties! - Thursday, 30 October My oldest daughter is the only one that has allergies. Thank God my youngest doesn't have a singlee allergy. I did follow what my ped. said. My daughter also has severe eczemaand just a bit of asthma, that runs in my husbands family. It's very hard to feed her. I have to buy a lot of organic foods and allergen-free foods too. It's strange,I don't have allergies like that in my family. I hope my son does not have this problem.
Debra - Tuesday, 28 October i don't know how much is rational :) maybe just how much is normal for you as it is soo different for everyone. My baby was satified with 5 oz per feed if i bottle fed him with breast milk and when i would pump, i could/ can usually get 5 oz between the two breasts- now its less since he drinks less from me. Before i started feeding him solids, my milk production levels were all over the board and i got engorged easily, but could also pump 6-8 oz each time then. My sister (with 3 boys) had told me at one time that with each child, milk production becomes more stable and you don't get the engorgement as frequently as with a first child- as the body has a better idea of how much milk the kid actually needs. I always thought teachers got breaks. you don't get 15 min for recess? just your lunch break?
