KRogers07 - Tuesday, 28 October Well you are never completely empty of milk. You will always get more that way baby will always hav something to drink. When I pump I pump until only a little drip is coming out. Usually when I start alot comes out. Make sure you are pumping long enough to get the hind milk though. Are you only pumping?
M.M.masi - Monday, 27 October Unfortunately you'll never be able to get it all out. 1. The baby is the best way to empty your boob 2. Your breast keep on making milk as you pump so you're never really empty
starby - Sunday, 26 October I eat instant as well, I'm not sure that it matters actaully. I know a lot of ladies on this site have tried the fermented oats but I havent had to try that one yet...it scares me a bit, hee hee. I finally stopped leaking as much, I dont wear a bra or pads to bed but ocasionally wake up with a soaked shirt, especially if I sleep through a pumping :( I'm not sure if it means you are regulated if you dont let down on both sides when nursing...I feel so messed up because all I know at this point is pumping both sides at the same time. I only had a few successful nursing sessions at the very begining and didnt really even get a feel for the whole thing. I swear I tricked my body into thinking I had twins or something with the amount of milk I was producing! The real downside was geting plugged ducts and mastitis constantly but I was able to store tons of milk. Your little ones are absolutely adorable :)
Debra - Sunday, 26 October yes, if you don't pump as often as baby would eat, your supply will go down. One of my friends who is a nurse too, pumped only once a day while she was working and then she noticed her supply would be down the next day. Then it would take a day or two to come back up again. Remember that in most states, there is a law that gives you the right to pump for your baby. Even if you can find time on one of your 15 min breaks, this would be helpful to keeping up your supply. Unfortunately the only thing that can really bring up your supply is increasing the frequency of the pumping - or sucking from baby. When you supplement or don't pump at the time baby would normally eat, your body thinks you are weaning and so is able to go longer without the engorgement. ie. When my son started sleeping through the night, my breasts were engorged the first night and i had to pump to relieve them, but 2 days later, i didn't have the engorgement. Now that he's eating solids and drinking water etc, I feed him breastmilk only 4 times a day and pumping is harder- especially in the evening when my supply is lower. Otherwise, before if i pumped when baby fed, I would get 5 oz between the 2 breasts each time.
roseplus1 - Sunday, 26 October You hit the nail on the head, I need to trust in God not tell him what I think he should do. I really need to stop stressing about it when I am pumping. I know that if I must use formula I will. I am just afraid that once I start relying on it, my milk will dry up...I am trying hard not to think like that..but it is so hard.
I am amazed that you pumped 6 oz total!! After how many hours was that?
I do not smell like it yet..LOL I am only taking 4 tablets a day so far. If I start to smell, then I will definitely stop..unless I am seeing a great increase.
I am truly enjoying this support system thank you. By the way your oldest is handsome and looks pretty robust. LOL
starby - Sunday, 26 October I have one side that way smaller than the other...I tried to "fix" it for awhile but just gave in...its pretty bad though, hee hee. I get about 3 more oz out of my right side than my left! If I wear a striped shirt or any kind of pattern you can totally tell one boob is super full, its quite embarrassing, I'll have to look into goats rue :) You are definately lucky you dont have to epump! So are you breastfeeding when you are with your little one and just pumping when you are away? I noticed my supply finally regulated after about 12 weeks, it still fluctuates here and there like if I get stressed or sick and I always get a little nervous when it seems low but I can seem to get it back up with a few different tricks...Oatmeal really helps and just increasing my pumping sessions.
Debra - Sunday, 26 October With pumping- if you are using a hospital grade pump, you may be able to get more out of your breasts. Pumping in general takes only what is stored in the breasts- 1/3 of the amount of milk available at each feeding. The rest is made when your baby goes to eat. The breast also continuously refills so you will never be able to get out 'all the milk' A baby's suck is much more powerful than any pump on the market- so many women think that the milk they can pump is how much they are making, when in fact the baby is actually getting at least double that which they can pump. So you can try upgrading your pump to one that is stronger OR try to pump more with your let downs. SO if you have one good one, try waiting 15-30 min and then pumping again. Otherwise pump for at least 15 min per side. If you are looking to increase your milk supply, try Fenugreek, or the medication Domperidone. Make sure your diet is well rounded (fruits, grains, veggies, proteins, dairy or calcium product ie. soy) and you are staying hydrated 8-10 cups per day. I hope this helps :)
roseplus1 - Saturday, 25 October Oh, that is great! It was 3 oz total or 6 oz? I went to the store to buy the goat rue and they only had the regular mothers milk, so I bouhgt that and started taking the fenugreek tablets. I have not really pumped (hand pumping is so hard) since I am in FL. But I noticed that Elizabeth has been choking more, like there is just too much milk. So I am hoping the combination works. I really want to try goat rue though.
My MIL said to me that I am trying to hard and that maybe I should just supplement...I hate that. I told her saying that stresses me out more. I want my baby to get only bm. Besides I have not spent one dollar on formula and the money I spent on mothers milk and the fenugreek does not even amount to 2 weeks of formula.
Good luck. Let me know on Monday. When I get home to my electric pump I will let you know if I see a big difference.
starby - Saturday, 25 October I dont fully drain them anymore because I had some issues with oversupply but when I did have to drain them, I felt like I was always pumping...I would have to sit there for like 30 minutes and while I was pumping I'd massage and squeeze the breast but I think the hands are a little more efficient than the pump so dont be too surprised if you always can get a little bit more out after pumping. How long have you been pumping?
femi - Friday, 24 October Hehehe. She's had that much hair since birth! She could easily get a haircut. :grin
I wish I had students above grade level. Any strategies you find work well with your lower performing students?
femi - Thursday, 23 October I would probably be able to go back to my school, but not sure about the same position. I'm seriously considering it 'cause it's nice to have that extra cash, so we'll see what happens come June. I seem to be getting into a flow at work, although, unfortunately, my kids are really low-performing; my 2nd graders are mostly reading on late-kinder/early-1st grade levels.
Jo-Mama - Thursday, 23 October No dairy, no meat, no berries, no eggs, no honey at this point. I started with squash, then apple, then carrots, then avocado, then sweet potato, then peaches. I didn't start these until my daughter was 6 months.
karina - Thursday, 23 October I was going to post but mom2boy cover the basics, lol...good luck!
mom2boy - Thursday, 23 October Veggies I think should be first so that they don't get accustomed to sweet foods and then not want to eat veggies, so let them get a taste for veggies before fruits...well at least the basic veggioes. Don't do honey, eggs, dairy, or peanuts. Also avoid carrots and spinach unless you are buying it in pre made baby food because they contain nitrates. Avocado is a great first baby food it has fats that are really good for baby. Also green beans, peas, sweat potato, etc. All foods must be boiled down to make it easier for baby to digest. The only ones that don't need to be boiled down are bananas and avocados. Hope this helps.
eves - Wednesday, 22 October yea sadly i think thats what i'll have to do... rent the one that i used at the hospital for like 1-2 months then switch back to the evenflo when my milk flow is steady, that should work, right???
Kadens Momma - Wednesday, 22 October First belly pic!
roseplus1 - Tuesday, 21 October It is medela a 6 year old one that my cousin used for her 2 babys. I had no problem with a used one..that is what soap is for.
roseplus1 - Tuesday, 21 October I am using an old pump, it was given to me by my cousin...I was thinking the same thing today in the car that I may have to buy a new one.I just don't have the money right now.
eves - Tuesday, 21 October well i have that evenflo dual pump, but i am looking into renting the one from the hospital but that thing is 50 a month.
roseplus1 - Tuesday, 21 October Thank you for all of your great advice. I am going to create that faux feeding session. I am just so tired to pump at night..but this morning I realized that I have to do what I need to for my child, this sacrifice will not be forever...Oh I take the mothers milk the same way...
roseplus1 - Tuesday, 21 October Uhh, that sounds like what mother milk taste like..I am almost finished with the bottle and did not see the massive increase that I wanted. I actually had to supplement a bottle with formula today for daycare..it hurts. I mean I understand that some choose to use formula but I look at the 'powder' and wonder if this is good for my child. I am going to force myself to drink 100 oz today (thats 4 of my water bottles). Good luck with the goat rue..I think I might order it...hopefully it works today.
eves - Tuesday, 21 October hmm, I dont mean to slow.. even though at times i am. I been pumping as i feel i feel it coming in, but only get like 1- 1 1/2oz per breast. i try to make 2 and 3 oz. bottles for her, but i never freeze it. Right now i have like two b/m bottles in the fridge, i never get 3 complete bottles. is it okay that i put them in the fridge rather the freezer???
roseplus1 - Monday, 20 October I have to drink 100 oz....nooo..I drink about 64 oz...I guess I will step it up..
