femi - Thursday, 11 September you would definitely get paid more here with that experience! in nyc, you need your master's to teach. they give you a 3-yr window to get it from the time you start teaching, i believe. kids in the bronx are like any other kids elsewhere: some are awesome, some can be challenging, and others have home/family issues that can affect their education. it also depends on the school. some schools have more challenging students with outside issues and school crowding, excessive paperwork, and behavioral problems can make any situation difficult! luckily, my school is organized, high-quality and resourceful, though they focus way too much on appearances for my liking.
smo - Thursday, 11 September I am not sure...I am excited for them but the emotions hit me so hard when they told us....I held it together and then after they couldn't see me the tears just rushed down my face. It is just so soon. But I know God is taking care of me. We think we found a place that I will explain in person to much to write. Well i will talk to you later I gotta get to work.
Hey what are you guys doing tomorrow night?? Haven't seen you in a while
smo - Thursday, 11 September Well I went to the Dr on Tues and both of our results are good. John had good sperm count, good shape and his motility is a little slow. Dr wants to see it about 50% and John's was 46%.
I have to have a sonogram done in a few weeks to see how big the dip at the top of my uterus is and if it is big then I might have to have surgery. We will just play it by ear.
ready2bamommy - Thursday, 11 September I teach Kindergarten-5th grade students with disabilities. I do seven classes a day! I am getting my master's in School Administration. It's very nice to meet you! I'm sure we can have some stories to share!
femi - Wednesday, 10 September oh, as for the pump. i am not sure how to start building up breast milk in the fridge/freezer. i hear that the first few times of pumping doesn't deliver much. is that true?
femi - Wednesday, 10 September wow. they pay $51,000 to start? that's more than they start paying teachers here when they start out. or is that the pay for a teacher that's already got a few years under her belt?
as for me, i teach in the bronx. what others consider the heart of the city is a place like times square ... i'm about 20 minutes north of times square when you take the train, and, remember, everything here is about taking the train, so i'm pretty close by.

femi - Monday, 8 September she definitely would not like that idea. i offered to go in once a week during my four extra weeks off and she never addressed it. :o/ i'm just going to hold my head up high and go to work and make it through this year.
gracie1128 - Monday, 8 September 100 ounces? Is that how much you are supposed to drink? I didn't know that. I am pumping and feeding also. I probably only drink 80 oz but seem to produce a bit. I have a big stock in the freezer! :) I work at the local humane society, am a vet tech, so am back with my animals. Is sad, not being with him all day every day though, but we are lucky and Nick stays home with him when I am at work, so works out well. My mother is still here which is causing a little stress between us, but apart from that, all is well.
My lactation consultant said that you have to eat at least 2500 calories/day for breastfeeding, do you do that? Maybe that is why the milk isn't satisfing him? I don't know much about this, but I know I am eating a whole lot... more than ever. Is kind of nice though cause i can eat all of that and I have still lost close to 40 lbs, about 10 away from my pre weight.
Are you going back to work? I am enjoying it, mostly so I can have some adult interaction, I don't have very many friends here, but I miss him so much when I leave.
What are you doing for halloween? I am trying to come up with a family costume idea... am excited. In New Zealand we don't do trick or treating, so am so excited to go with DOminic. One of the girls I work with is having a party, so should be fun.
Hope all is well with you. Hope you had a nice weekend. BTW, your picture is so cute, very happy! :)
Shans-Water-Babies - Monday, 8 September Who knows. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on the matter. I think us mother's just need to take all the advise we're given with a grain of salt and makeour judgment based on our child's personal needs. Only you can make the best decision for Michael considering your with him all the time :) Dont doubt yourself, you're already raising a beautiful little angel and I'm sure he's perfectly healthy
femi - Sunday, 7 September she was a real bitch about taking more than six weeks---excuse my french---and then i found out that i don't get insurance past six weeks, so that's that ... i am going back once she turns six weeks. it's heartbreaking, but hopefully my parents will help care for her, which they have offered, but we have to see what happens with my husband's schedule. i'm hoping my class does well while i am away.
Shans-Water-Babies - Sunday, 7 September I tried rice cereal with Jayden when he was 3 months old. He's a big boy and was never settled on just milk. I was told to not feed him more than every 3.5 hours but he would be hundry after 2 hours so after a few months I would give his last feed to him in a bottle and add a tea spoon of rice cereal to it to thicken it up and it helped heaps. A month later he was on solids then after another month of solids he was sleeping through. The only thing that I would be concerned about with "feeding" Michael solids is the lining on his stomach wouldn't be complete at 2 months and you may cause digestive probs. I know people in Europe start solids at 6 weeks, but I wouldn't recommend that. Dont forget also, that around this age they go through an unsettled period because they are going through another change so he may not be hungry he may just need a change in his sleep routine or something. Hope you work out whats best for you both. Talk to you soon...xxx
Shans-Water-Babies - Sunday, 7 September Yeah, it's tough working and juggling kids, thats why I work nights because it gives me the day to get organised and I can sleep when jayden sleeps. Before Jayden was around and we just had Angie and Dion we both worked full-time and it was so tiring. I worked in the city so, I would get up at 6am get ready for work get the kids lunch's packed and clothes laid out then head off to work at 7, then Dan would get up with the kids get them dressed and fed and drop Dion off to pre-school and Angie off to school then go to work. Then he'd finish work, get Angie and pick up Dion then come home and I would get home just after them. We would just keep going with baths and dinner and homework then eventually after reading the kids a story and playing with them get them to bed by about 8.30pm. We would just collaps on the couch some nights from exhaustion and I usually fell asleep infront of the tv. We both had very stressful jobs and it felt like we never stopped. This time round I said that I wasn't going to go back to work full-time until Jayden was atleast in school. It's too much strain on our marriage.
Yeah, Jayden has been sleeping through since he was 5 months old but he's teething at the moment and he has a cold so he's waking up crying through the night wanting his dummy. There was one night where he was really blocked up and I think I slept an hour, tops!!! I was so tired I had a head ache that whole day that I couldn't shake until I went to sleep that night.
femi - Saturday, 6 September you're back at work! how's it going?
Shans-Water-Babies - Saturday, 6 September What a lovely pic of you and the kids. How are you??
ama-llama - Friday, 5 September oh YEAH he s colicky! Hours and hours every night (on occasion he will sleep all evening and we get a break) He cries during feedings and we have been down so many roads to figure whars going on. Weended up in the emergency room yesterday because ha has started just skipping feeds (he too busy crying) So nowwe are on our 3rd reflux meds ... i hate giving him meds . i tried cutting out milk in my diet ,didnt do much but i only tried a couple days. Its so upsetting when he refuses th breast What were your boys symptoms??
ama-llama - Friday, 5 September I quit my job in the UK! It feels really weird to see the kids going back and heres me at home, but Im loving my new job;) When do you go back? I saw you had some questions about reflux and gas pains. Did you have feeding/crying troubles? We ve got them BIG TIME right now..not too sure why he hates to eat...
gracie1128 - Friday, 5 September I love your pictures. Dominic is fantastic, sleeps through the night, at least from 11pm to 6am, so I am so lucky. He is huge though. Went to the pediatrician last thursday and he is 15lbs and 23.5 inches long! Huge. Looks like a 6 month old. How big is your little one? I am nursing still, am pumping cause I started back to work part-time this week. Really sucks. I miss him so much. We are so lucky that my bf can take care of him when I am at work and I can when he is there, hopefully this will work out. Write me and let me know how he is doing (and you)!
smo - Friday, 5 September You put pictures up!! I love them!
ama-llama - Thursday, 4 September nice to see some pics up! They are both so cute :)
