Anyone living, or have lived, in the Burlington Vermont area? We`re looking to move there in the next 2 years and I`m looking for pros and cons from people who`ve actually lived there (not just the websites promoting the state lol). Also open to the idea of upstate NY... but we`ll be opening a restaurant and need a place where we`ll get a good amount of people (i.e. Burlington has a university, tourism, an airport, etc...) SOOO.... we spent the evening in the ER because DS tripped over the shoe rack and smashed his head on the window sill. He split it right open, right over his eye. Luckily he didn`t need stitches and they were able to glue it, but that was the most serious injury any of my kids have received by far. It scared the crap out of me! I know trips to the ER are pretty much inevitable with kids, but this was my first and it sucked!

I grew up in the States and middle names were as important as first names around here, but when I moved to Canada nobody ever used them (and they all had 2! lol). Not a poll, but we have so many coupon moms on this site, and military moms, too, so I really wanted to share: Did you know you can donate expired coupons to military families stationed overseas? The military commisaries (sp?) will accept coupons up to 6 months past their expiration date!!! I haven`t done it yet, but I`ve started my pile to send. I can`t believe this isn`t more well known! It`s such an easy, simple way to help :)

School Fundraisers! How do you feel about them? I`m all for supporting the school, but it`s starting to get a little out of control... We just sent the gift-wrap fundraiser back last week (with lots of orders from friends and family), and today DD brought home the monthly Market Day fundraiser (full of all pre-packaged, processed foods that I wouldn`t buy at the grocery store, let alone from a company I`ve never heard of), along with a Music Boosters fundraiser, full of holiday chocolates and wrapping paper, and then one with frozen Italian food. The kicker was, there`s a note attached that says they expect every student to sell at least 15 items!! And all I`m thinking is, everyone I know just shelled out $20-$50 a piece last week, when they all have their own kids and grandkids with their own fundraisers, the economy sucks, Christmas is coming, and if someone I just supported by buying from their fundraiser approached me again in the same MONTH, I`d be annoyed. And I wouldn`t have the $$$ to buy anything anyway. It all just seems a bit much!

Holy Homework!!! How much homework on average does your second grader (or around that grade) have per night? DD has at least an hour of homework a day, except Fridays. She has reading, spelling, and math homework every night, and 2 or 3 times a week an extra something (a board game she brings home, an extra math sheet, etc). I`m all for homework, and I`d never say it in her hearing, but it seems like an awful lot! Is this the norm?

Bug bites! We were playing in the back yard and DS (he`s 2) comes up to me COVERED in loonie sized welts! I`m sure they`re mosquitos, because as he was standing there I smushed one on him and the welt was the same. Today they`re still angry red welts, and I can`t believe how big they are! DH gets nasty reactions to bites too, but nothing like this. Is this common? Should I worry? Any suggestions besides After-Bite? (They had bugspray on btw)

Has this ever happened to you?! I was sound asleep and then CRACK! I took an elbow to the temple lol DH had a dream that a cat was jumping on him and he went to block it and I just happened to be within a 10 foot radius lol lol He felt terrible, but we were laughing after a few minutes... The dangers of sharing a bed! Who knew?

Drama of the Day! My 2 year old managed to lock himself in the washroom! After a few minutes of trying to get him to unlock, I figured `no biggie, I`ll take the doorknob off`...DIDN`T WORK! Luckily, my neighbor`s grandson did the same thing 2 weeks ago, and she came over to show me how to get it open with a pen. 30 minutes later... all`s well that ends well lol But what a STRESS! Do you put hats on your LO`s? I`ve always been religious about it, and when we lived in Canada everyone else I knew was too. But now we`re in the States and I can`t believe how many hatless babies I see! I`m assuming they`re covered in sunscreen, so I`m not judging or anything, just noticing. What do you do?

What would you do? My mum was at Walmart and there was another mum WAILING on her child. This kid wasn`t older than 5, and the mum was really letting her have it. Not a spank or smack but a beating. I asked my mum `omg what did you do?` expecting heroics of some sort, and she said she went to the other end of the store because she couldn`t stand to hear it! I was shocked, and said `you didn`t do ANYTHING?!` and she said the lady was huge and covered in tattoos and my mum just didn`t want to get involved. Meanwhile, I`m thinking, if you`re afraid of that lady, imagine a tiny LO... I`m not usually a meddler, especially when it comes to parenting, but if I saw a child actually in danger, or really being abused, I`d like to think I`d step up and say something. If anything, call the police. Now my mum feels badly for not calling the cops, but at the same time, the store was full and apparently NO ONE did anything!

So yesterday DD woke up at 5:30 am puking, and she had really bad diarreah. She kept throwing up every hour or so, and could hardly keep water down until about 4pm. Come to fnd out, when she was at a bbq the night before with my mom, she ate 3 1/2 large cups of fruit salad, spicy bean salad, vinegar-y broccoli, and 2 cups of oj. She also had grapes and pears for lunch. I think that`s enough to mess up anyone`s stomach, especially a 7 year old. But today she is still nauseous, still has diarreah, and hasn`t kept down anything but graham crackers and water. Does it sound like a bug? Or a result of all of the food? Any suggestions?

Is your toddler a CLIMBER?! I don`t mean regular toddler climbing, like on and off the couch 100 times lol but a true monkey? DD never really was, but DS- OMG! He climbs anything and everything! He monkeys up onto his bed OVER the guard rail, instead of around it (his upper body strength is crazy lol), he climbs the back of the couch, he uses the handle on the freezer to climb the front of the fridge... And it`s not for lack of telling him no! He spends half the day in timeout lately lol and it`s only a matter of time before I come into him on top of the cupboards or something...

If you`re on the pill, have you ever missed a period completely and not been preggo? I`ve had light ones before, but there`s always at least 1 day of bleeding. Weird question, but I can`t find anything online... I`ve had a bad headcold with a terrible cough for over a week now. Since yesterday, whenever I lean forward or bend down (getting laundry, pulling something out of the oven, drying my hair, etc) I get an excruciating pain in my left ear/jaw area. It goes away when I right myself again, but it seems to be getting worse. Has anyone had or heard of this? I`m guessing it`s related to my cold, but it really hurts! And it`s getting in the way of everything lol Any suggestions?

Are you accident prone? I somehow tripped over my feet and smashed into the tile edge of the counter and bruised my rib! It hurts to breathe or move, and sneezing brings me to tears! So when I told DH, I said `I haven`t hurt myself this bad since I fell down the stairs` and he said `when you were pregnant?` No, I forgot about that time. And the other time. And the time I fell through the table lol... Turns out I`m an accident waiting to happen! Anyone else?

Do you have someone who buys your LO the most AWFUL clothes? Lol I don`t want to be ungrateful, but our son got the absolute UGLIEST outfit for his bday. It`s my dad`s gf (no kids) and she means well, but whoa mama! Some of the clothes are just not to my style, and I don`t mind putting them on my son when he`s going somewhere with her. Moms of school-age children: what do you put in your child`s lunchbox? Specifically, how much? My daughter (almost 7) told me the other kids have alot more in their lunchbox than her, and she`s always done first. She usually gets a sandwich or wrap, fruit, and grahams or goldfish or something of that nature... what do you think?
