I know you all arent docs but just asking anyhow... I was just reading a report regarding neck stability and now more concerned. What exactly is your opinion on a Dr. writing `critical pathological threshold` in reference to a concern? I`m just trying to prepare myself for the next apmnt. If you live in Glen Allen VA (or within 30 minutes from it and in a good child friendly town) can you share about the cost of living there? What is average housing cost for a 1700 sq ft home, average mortgage payment, cost of living, taxes, average household income etc? Sadly no marriage is perfect. My DH and I are in the middle of a bad arguement. We havent had a conversation since Sat afternoon. WE only talk about the kids. He was hurtful, disrespectful and without remorse. Although we are happily married this is the longest it has gone on. No marriage is perfect and both parties can make mistakes and some battles are just not worth continuing. He isnt one to apologize and while most often I am ok with letting it go I am not with this one. We will be married 18 yrs this Oct. For those of you who are married or committed and have been together longer then 5 yrs, what is the longest you went without talking or moving past an argument? TX!!

Does anyone here have a child with Cranial Vertebral Instability or basilar invagination that required fusion to help? My oldest had fusion for chiari and cervical instability due to ehlers danlos syndrome/marfanoid but my middle son is 11 and his is a slightly different instability. Hoping to find out the difference in the two types of fusions. My other sons was c1-c3. Not sure if Cranial is different or same. TX!!

In regards to affection given to you from your child that is almost 4. When it comes specifically to a kiss/smooch. Hunter has ASD/Autism. His ability to express effection is getting much better, he will innitiate a hug but he has yet to innitiate a kiss. He will give it to me most of the time when asked but not just on his own. So curious what others do of the same age. Obviously I know he has delays and struggles just curious as to where exactly he falls compared to a typical child. This may be completely typical or a bit delayed so checking to see the average :) Your child will:

Sharing a terrible loss and hope it saves another life. This week sadly a mom and her 2 month old were found deceased in their home. It has been determined that the mom sadly passed away from an underlying medical condition. She was a well loved loving mom and she is greatly missed by those who knew her. The tragedy is that no one had spoken to her in a week so they went over to see what was going on and found them. With technology these days most people have the means of talking to someone at least once a day. If you are able to, esp if you have medical condition concerns, and have an infant make it a point to check in with the same person often so they know to come by if they dont hear from you. Sadly this baby being so young couldnt survive without her mom to care for her so she passed too. :( Very very sad :(

Any NY State parents or faculty here have a child or student w/a 504 or IEP get approved for reduced/revised high school graduation requirements (electives for example) due to extensive medical concerns? My neighbor, who doesnt have any kids and is 49, told me yesterday that many she knows who have kids have said `If I knew then what I know now I wouldnt have had kids BUT I dont regret having them`. Just wondering if this bothers you like it does me? I`ve lost count of the number of times I see a child approx age 2.5-5 tell their parent they need to go to the bathroom and the parent says wait a minute and the child repeats asking several times. I`ve seen it 3 times in the last 2 weeks and it drives me nuts when I see the child still waiting and having asked more then once and at least 5-10 minutes has passed. Not once was the parent in a situation that they couldnt step away for a bit to take them. No child should have to hold it that long. When my sons ask, I stop what I am doing and take them, I dont like to wait when I have to go so why should they. And their bladders arent as strong as an adult. How long do you think is a reasonable time for a child to have to wait to be taken when they need to go??

Off Target... Anyone know? Question regarding homemade yummies made by home based businesses and sold in gift baskets or craft shows. When someone makes homemade chocolates or cakes etc and these itmes are sold what regulations are required? I`d assume an approved kitchen (like restaurants have to meet health inspections) how do home based businesses get away with this or do this and stay within safety guidelines for home based businesses? Just curious how you`d define the difference :) There are different types of friends.. when it comes to your best friend(s) and a friend who you are VERY close with but you`d not say is your best friend what would you say is different about the two relationships? Not that it matters, just curious :) I have 3 very close friends. Two of which I`ve known for 15 years and there is no doubt that they are my best friends. We moved in 04 and in our new town I met another friend whom I also call my other BFF and she does with me as well but its different with her and I feel that she is more a VERY close friend but not a best. There are things (although very minute) not there in our relationship that I have with the other two. They all get along great by the way and know I view them all as my best friends :) My other two feels like sisters, the 3rd not so much but VERY close. What would you expect from your best friend that you may not get from another close friend? I`ll explain more inside... TX!!

Off Target ~ does anyone here have a diamond that is larger then .60 and an I1 for clarity? If so does it look that bad? I found the perfect setting I LOVE for my replacement ring (my other diamond was stolen :( a few years ago ) and it has a diamond in it thats a .79 marquise. Great color but I1 for clarity which is why the value is good. DH will replace stone for me oneday (cause of the clarity) just to a better stone but just curious if it is that bad ya know :) I dont mind if it isnt that bad, would rather save money for other things we need if this stone will be fine :) TX!!

Anyone here work in a blood lab or know about hemotology? Wondering if anyone knows anything about Prolonged Prothrombin Time? My son who is 15 is scheduled for his 2nd decompression brain surgery and cervical fusion next week. (was supposed to be today but it got delayed) his ped called to say that she wondered if they delayed it a week because of the blood work results. (this wasnt HIs ped but another ped in the office who happened to be the one who did his preop testing) She said the norm is up to 11.5 and his was 12 something so not that far off but a tad and he needs to see a hemotologist doc to clear him for surgery. she didnt want this to be a concern with his surgery. I am confused, everything I`ve read online says this number is normal and not prolonged. Is it different for peds? Would love any thoughts you have. Thanks!!

I posted the other day of a local young woman who is also a college student out of state that is missing. It is on Nancy Grace now, we need to find her! Here is the link.. Off Target.. Any nurses online? Going to docs tomorrow if not any better but very confused :( I was picking up Hunter from his bed this morning (12 hours ago) I leaned wrong and lost my balance causing me to turn and slowly continue to loose my footing and fall on my side/left front. I landed on a large stuffed dog and it was a slow decent. I didnt hit anything hard on the way down. I was sore a bit initially but ok. About half hour later I went to sit for the first time and my tail bone hurt terribly :( It has gotten worse :( I hurt more when trying to stand up. But I can walk although uncomfortable. If I had landed on my tailbone I can understand the pain but I didn`t. Any thoughts on why it would hurt so bad when I didnt even hit it and my fall was slow and more awkward then a fast drop? TX!! Will head to docs tomorrow and know you cnat dx but just curious. TX!! I do have a connective tissue disorder so perhaps that is it but this is still very odd.

What is/was your job/career? If you worked or work now what is your job title, description & degree needed to do it? TX to all those who posted on my poll about my son and the red spots all over!! He is going to docs today so will know. They arent dry or blistered or fluid filled and dont seem to faz him. They are showing up before our eyes, an hour earlier no mark. He did get bit by a tic earlier in the week but that area is completely clear and the spots were there on his hinney before the bite. No one else in house has them and the weather is cold so we really havent been outside at all. Only while he is at school really. We checked bed and its clear, bedding washed again. I have better photos, copy this link and scroll below html box to see. Got worse under arms over last several hours. One more on face. I put two photos of my son and the red spots all over him. IN case it doesnt show up here or is to small to see. My son had a few when he came from my inlaws last weekend. They have gotten worse over the last two days. I am taking him to docs tomorrow but wondered if anyone knows what it is. We dont have fleas or bed bugs but what I can find online looks like this and it is concerning. :( There is no center white spot or blisters so dont think chicken pox ~ would love any thoughts ~ TX!!!

Has this happened to you or your child & if so what was the final impression? My son had what the neurologist suspected may have been a seizure. He ordered an EEG. I asked before hand to him & the EEG nurse & others I`ve spoken to that if the test comes back neg does it mean the seiruze has been ruled out & they all said no. So the test did infact come back negative so what am I to think? If this happened to you or your child what were you told after?

My middle son was just diagnosed with central auditory processing disorder ~ (yeah the son you never hear about, lol ~ its the other two with med concerns) he also may have post concussion syndrome ~ they are unrelated to each other. The CPD was suspected long before his head injuries. For those that have had these diagnosis or are teachers what has been effective in school? They are recommending FM system and hoping school agrees. What changes have been made at home to help? TX!!

Reaching out to anyone in the medical field.. My son has a TRUE single right coronary artery. Docs have very little info on it and little to no data on it to know right course of action. It was thought to be the Cheitlin anomaly but isnt. Here is the exact description. I am looking for ANYTHING or anyone who knows anyone or studies or data.. anything.. on this specific anomaly. I am at my wits end as you can see (we are now on the 4th consult with docs regarding treatment plan) and I am looking for any and all help I can get... I`ll post description inside TX!!

Some of you may recall my oldest has a number of medical concerns, chiari, connective tissue disorder and a heart anomaly that is associated with sudden death in athletes with high exertion. His is a slight variation of it which makes his slightly less risk. We have been told the risk is there and there is no way to know if monitoring him and no bypass surgery will protect him in the rather remote chance he has a heart attack. Meaning if it did happen he could die. Age risk is 14-30. He is 14. We are struggling with what to do :( The specialist on this anomaly (left artery arises from right and goes between great arterery) has said there is no way to know if he will become symptomatic or not and have a heart attack and your child doesnt want to be excluded from sports (and you agree, hes a competitive swimmer and very good!) and that it is a rather remote chance he could have a heart attack and not survive and bypass surgery is the only way to ensure he will be ok (surgery risks aside but there too) what would you do? I am so scared, even though the risk is very low. :(

Need your opinions pls :) Many of you know my sons have medical concerns. My sister mentioned having a benefit for my son (to help offset the mounting medical bills 3000-6000 that are coming in plus the tutoring he needs over the summer since he isnt in school now til fall hopefully. I successfully organized my other sisters benefit 2 yrs ago before she passed away so have experience in it. My MIL also said it would be a good idea as she knows this is putting a strain on us since we live paycheck to paycheck as it is and have no extra. So I told my sis the other day that I do think we need it to help with his bills even if they are only $3000, its $3000 we dont have. I am paying on them but it is really hurting us :( I have things I need to pay for that I cant now. I know it could even be more because of his now life threatening heart condition. Our Ins requires us to pay this amount so this is after ins has paid their portion. So the other day she suggests that since she is out of state and I am local that I organize it and be the name known as the organizer in all promotions as the contact. So my question is isnt this tacky? I feel it is to have me as the organizer but if it isnt & I am reading into it will do it myself with her help & others willing to help. What do you think? Just curious what you would choose to do ~ My son who is 14 has a life threatening heart artery anomaly and it is rare so there is limited stats information on it. His left artery arise from the right and goes between the great vessels & is often found w/athletes who die suddenly w/exertion. One cardiologist who is experienced says some are symptomatic & some arent so you cant say for sure that he can be safely monitored since there is a small risk his first symptom could be tragic. Another experienced cardio in this says that he can be monitored for it & his risk of sudden death is very low so monitoring is fine & he can return to competitive swimming. Both are respected & both knowledgeable in this yet both have two different opinions. Neither knows of the others view on it. We spoke to them seperately. I would love to not have my son have bypass open heart surgery but that said I dont know that I could sleep peacefully knowing that one day could be tragic if we just monitor him. Why not just treat get on with life & not worry any more but the surgery is so major too. Such a hard decision. What would you do if this was your child?

Anyone here work for a cardiologist? My 14 yr old son has also been diagnosed with True Single Right Coronary Artery. Which will require more testing to determine if a concern (life threatening) or not ~ it will depend on the specific location of the artery ~ Anyone here work in cardiology?? Homeschoolers, I need your help ~ does anyone homeschool an 8th grader?? My son who just had brain decompression surgery was told today by his surgeon she wants him back to school Monday/Tuesday and he`s NOT ready!! I am NOT happy :( He is only 2.5 weeks post op, still has pain and symptoms. I was terrible in school and afraid I`d be no help since I wouldnt know any of the stuff he`d need to learn and what about labs etc in school? How does it work? Anyone homeschooled for a short time? Would love any help I can get ~ homeschool is not for me but I cant bare to send him yet, even if I could do half days it would help. TX!

Re: Organic Soaps ~ I buy organic soaps all the time, have for years. With my sons pending skull surgery it will be important to me that he uses soaps that are organic as well. Instead of buying I`ve decided to make my own. Organic raw shea is one ingredient I plan to have in all my soaps. Does anyone make soaps here? Would love some of your recipes if so, tricks or tips :) I bought organic sugar (exfoliating soap) and orange peel as well as baby powder oils for some too. If all goes well I may sell some too, if you buy organic soaps how much have you paid and what types are your favs? I have paid as low as $1.60 for oatmeal soaps I love to 3.99 a bar too. If you color your own hair and it is a dark deep rich brown (not a muddy brown) almost black but not black what color is it and brand? I colored my hair yesterday, it was called dark mahogany brown but to red for me now that it is done ~ (if you watched idol last night, shelbys hair color Ioved!) Would love some measuring help from anyone who is willing to share :) I am making something special and want to find compare for a common measurement for each. For those that have twin bed or toddler beds with head boards would you be so kind as to measure it for me? I need 1. Height from floor to top of corner. 2. Distance from bottom horizontal bar that connects the two head board legs to top of head board 3. thickness of thickest part head board. like 1 inch, 2 inches etc etc. and 4. Width of head board from one leg to other. What I am making needs to slip over the head board (but not to loosely) which is why I need the widest widths. TX so much!!!!!

Mortgage question ~ we are considering moving out of state in a year and half but not sure if we can afford it. Our cost of living is low compared to many other areas. Our home in upstate NY is worth 159000-165000 (4 bdrom centerhall colonial, fireplace, hardwoods, 1/3 acre, 2 car garage, 1 full bath, 1 3/4 bath and 1 half bath, full basement. Updated but originally built in the 70`s, 1762 sq ft. The same home in NJ is worth about 335000-500000. We are not willing to downsize since our home is the perfect size for us. I looked online for homes in the area we are interested in Brick or nearby NJ and they run 300000 - 375000 and more. If you have a mortgage financing that amount with average (not great but not the worst) credit what is your mortgage payment 30 year fixed and does it include your state and local taxes? TX!!

Just asking in the off shot chance I might find someone who has? I have Convergence Insufficiency with my eyes. The reason I have to wear prism glasses full time. I recently read that prism glasses is a passive treatment and vision therapy is better and very effective and would eliminate my need for glasses. I also read that it can often be the cause of some kids who had ADHD. My son who complains of symptoms I have but I never thought about putting two and two together. He has inattentive ADD. I plan to get him into docs now and wondered for myself if therapy is a good choice. Anyone ever had it for this specific eye muscle issue? TX!!

For those who`ve never spanked or plan never to spank ~ how old is your oldest child? I can only speak for myself but sometimes how we feel we will parent isnt always how it ends up. My oldest is 14 and I wouldnt say I am a spanking (doing it often or repeat hitting in one sitting) but I have reached my boiling point unexpectedly in a serious situation and have hit him or my 9 year old. But it is a single hit, not multiple. I hate that it happened, it surely isnt planned I am not proud of it but want to be honest... And I can count on one hand the number of times it has happened in 14 years so it not common at all. I often wonder for those who choose not to ever spank how old your kids are? I cant imagine I am the only parent that said they will never do it but ends up at least once during a parenting time frame because sometimes parenting and our tolerance isnt what we expected. I also dont hit on the bottom. Think when I hit my 14 year old a few months back I just swatted his shoulder a single time. I probably didnt even hurt.

Has anyone here heard of MnemeTherapy? As many of you know I am an illustrator. I am ending my daytime childcare and will continue with illustration but over the past few months I`ve been considering other areas to also work in PT (some I`ve shared here and pondered on) to work in as well. Today I came acrossed this type of therapy and it is said to be effective in autistic and Alzheimer`s patients. Wondering if it is a good thing to invest in the schooling of or if a waste of money for various reasons. My son is autistic so think it would be great to offer my art skills in this manner but dont want to invest in something that sadly is hard to get clients/work in. Did anyone here take hydroxycut when it DID contain Ephedra?? I did and it was my miracle drug to weight loss and it was banned a number of years ago and I`ve tried everything on the market and there is just nothing that works as good. Looking for input :) As many of you know I am an illustrator. I am ending childcare soon too & devoting to an additional career. One that focuses around my sons needs. (in addition to my art). I have always loved to cut hair, have cut my own for years, lol.There desperately needs to be stylists who cater to those in special needs, like ASD children, adults, cancer patients, bed ridden moms to be etc etc. They`d travel to them.. I dont want to wait 2 years to begin this as it is needed now I feel. So many could benefit from it (taking an autistic child to a salon is a nightmare!) And not everyone can get out or they need a special setting to be successful. I have decide to devote to a career to those in need. I was going to go to Cos school but have now opted to start a new business and be the `bones of it` Having stylists become part of the network acrossed the US helping those in need. My site would allow those to register to find a stylist near them who caters to their needs (could even be a mom cut who cant get out because of a special needs child etc) or a stylist wishing to join the team... so here is my question ~ what are your thoughts? How do I go about finding out all the laws and how to run a business like this (all stylists would be independent contractors but follow all the legal guidelines.) I`ll get the DBA certs etc. I would be in charge of matching up clients to stylists/booking. They`d cater to unique settings geared for the person in need.... more inside...

This is an important poll for me on swine, if you dont like it by pass it ~ TX! My boys both have the flu, one is very sick but will recover fine without hospital intervention. He`s had fever 5 days now & still horizontal. I`ve talk to Peds office twice, they said their office can test for flu but it cant tell you which strain it is. I assume another place would have to test then. I am not concerned if swine or not because to me both are dangerous & more dangerous for high risk (Hunter is on tamiflu too) Many non high risk people are recovering fine from it. (I know 3 personally) I am supposed to go to NJ to be with sis this weekend & sadly I now have symptoms but no fever yet. So not going. How did those of you who have the swine DX? For my boys I am not concerned but sis wants to know... TX!!

Secret remedies for stopping/reducing the onset of the flu... My older boys both have the flu. Been 4 days now and they are slowly getting better. My youngest has been given tamiflu to reduce risks. today I noticed I have a headache and a bit tired. Praying just a cold but I`m scared of the flu. What things can I do if I AM getting it to stop it from progessing? Any secrets? I wash hands, take vits, disinfect, drink water etc etc. I am visiting my sis on chemo in a week and I CANT get it!! If I am I need to stop it!! I am going to get some Vit c too ~ any other suggestions?? TX!!

Kind of gross but not sure why this happens. Why is it that soon as my husband takes a shower and hangs towel up to dry it smells like body order once dry?? The towel is clean and never used and even smelled clean when he removed it from cubbard.. it is confusing. He is drying off water, not sweat, from his clean body. I dont get it ~ anyone know the reason for this?

Thank the heavens above that the baby who was in the stroller that went under the train survived!! http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2009/10/16/felton.aus.baby.train.sevennet ~ I think from this I will never overlook the importance of breaks on a stroller and will always use them now! THANK GOD he survived!!! Just sharing so others like myself will see the lesson that can be learned from this ~

Wow on my poll below! Some are very young ~ huge difference.. Hunter is almost two and once I heard him made a few sounds that resembled a melody but not since or before, that was about a week ago at 23.5 months old. At what age did you hear them sing or babble a tune or something, even if once, on a daily basis?

How many months old was you LO when you began to hear sounds that resembled singing humming or babbling verbally.. songs or tunes? Not when they mastered it, but started it. Hunter is autistic so we know he is delayed but just wondering how delayed he is, if any, with singing. TX!

What is your home like? I often watch House Hunters and when I watch the international one I am always blown away either by the huge amount of space or the teeny tiny space that seems typical for the area. Today there was one home for sale that was only 1000 sq ft and 5 bedrooms! Cant fathom how that is possible, the bedrooms much be closet size! So what is your home like and where do you live if you are good with sharing :)

I often complain about how much I hate cold and snow yet I live in upstate NY where it is just that in the winter, lol. I back it up by saying I deal with it because then I dont have to worry about tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes, blistering heat, forest fires (or gators, lol)... Never say never but the only typical danger where I live is a blizzard or ice/snow storm. Where do you live and what natural dangers are typical where you live?

In reference to the toilet flusing below :) So when you use a public bathroom and you`ve washed your hands do you grab a tissue to open door and leave or do you use your bare hand? It always baffles me that people use theirs hands, that door knobs/handles are full of bacteria from sadly the many kids AND adults who dont wash hands ~ rotovirus comes from bacteria gotten from dirty toilet bacteria ~

Sharing my appreciation for this site ~ throughout pregnancy and infancy/toddlers years we all feel every emotion imaginable. At times posts, polls, etc etc will either make us so happy or really upset us. We`ve even consider leaving. Now imagine this (for those of you my age or a child in their teens you understand) No internet exists, cell phones are very rare so rarely can you reach someone unless work or home (you rely on them having an answering machine too since some do and some dont) long distance calls cost money. Your only resources are friends and family you meet or chat with and the library or book store. You are a stay at home mom, Your SO works. You are tired, have a crying baby have a question (or many for that matter) and need help right away... Go back in time, to 1995. That is what it was like when I had my first. It was very hard (chating with anyone in another country was unheard of unless you were family or friend first to get their # or you wrote a leter and mailed it) For those of you new parents now, can you imagine not having all that we do today? When you think about it really you will have a whole new appreciation for this site and others like it and the internet like I do now. Parenting was SO much easier my 3rd time around. Partly from the `been there done that` theory but also alot inpart to having things, people, cell phones, internet and such to turn to instantly when I had no idea. I cant even imagine what I`d of done had my first been autistic. Sometimes we appreciate things more when they are gone or we look back in time. So next time you get flustered, happy, thrilled, angry, annoyed etc etc think about what we have here with this amazing site :) Makes you see that its not so bad after all :) Tx for letting me blab :)

Off Target ~ who drinks wine? I love only very sweet wine ~ I drink Glenora Blueberry Breeze and Glenora Peach Passion. It is actually a wine beverage in a wine bottle. If you drink wine and like only those that are very sweet and not dry, what do you drink? TX!!
