Baby-poll poll Is it just me, or do you also feel bothered by friends who stopped coming around once you had a child? Example: maybe saw them once born or when an infant/baby, but basically never again (or once a year, if that or only if you invite them to a birthday party)?
(Baby-poll poll by femi, 260 days ago)
It does bother me, and I've made an effort to slowly lessen my contact with them (ex: we can be friends and talk every now and then, but you don't need to be at my kids' birthday party if the last time an effort was made to see him/her was during infancy.)18

Other-poll poll (Warning: Might be TMI!) Ok, hopefully this doesn`t sound odd or like TMI: for the past two or three menstrual cycles, the smell of my period blood is exactly like my memory of postpartum blood (lochia). My cycles have also started with spotting 2-3 days before my actual period, which never happens. Why might this be happening? Has anyone had something similar happen? (Some women may not notice or have a difference in the smell of their menstrual blood vs. lochia; also, please note the smell is NOT at all foul).

Baby-poll poll Head Lice update: Thanks for the comments and voting, ladies! Here`s something new I learned: The AAP recommends/supports the no-lice policy and NOT the no-nit policy. The city where we live goes by the AAP`s recommendations. Here`s a video concerning the AAP`s recommendation. Baby-poll poll Question concerning head lice: My daughter and I were home from daycare/work with head lice today. I had a mild case and she had it bad. I shampooed with the lice shampoo and combed out our hair with nitcombs twice.... once after the lice shampoo and once with vaseline in our hair. That was last night. Today, I combed our hair twice again with coconut oil and conditioner. We killed the lice and got so many of the nits out. In fact, with our last nitcombing, I only saw a few nits come out. What`s your opinion: Are we ready to return to daycare/work tomorrow?

Name-poll poll If you grew up fully bilingual, but you and your significant other communicate with your child mostly in English (and that`s what the child has consequently learned to dominate the best/most), how do you address/respond to family members and friends that say stuff like, `Aww, she doesn`t know (fill in native language here)?` Just an FYI: we both speak Spanish, but we rarely speak it to one another, so although our daughter can understand quite a few Spanish words and phrases, it`s not the language she dominates, which is unfortunate since only 1 of 4 of her grandparents speak English like she does. We`re trying, but we like to use whatever language comes naturally to us so that she can get a rich vocabulary (I`m a native Spanish speaker, but my richest vocabulary/communication is definitely in English, if that makes sense).

Other-poll poll I have a bitchy boss that doesn`t care about me. I finally left that job. My last day was yesterday, but I can`t help thinking about the way they treated me. They didn`t give me a departure gift and two of the bosses never came around to say bye to me. I`m a teacher and basically transferred to another school. When she announced this, it sounded cold and she even took the time to mention the vacancy and asked other teachers if they knew of anyone that could fill the spot. The boss never made genuine conversation with me even when I tried with her and she never made me feel welcome. Even when I first told her I was leaving, there was no emotion; she just didn`t care. Any stories about bitchy bosses so I can feel better?

Other-poll poll I am renting out our parking spot to a neighbor. She did mention her dad would be using it as well and I said fine. But now I see that her dad has parked there two days in a row and they have yet to make their FIRST monthly payment. In other words, I haven`t gotten my money, but they`ve used the parking spot two days already. I should have never said they could start parking whenever; I should have said they could start parking after they had paid. Oh, well. It`s done. Is it just me or should I ask her for the payment and why she isn`t parking there? I just don`t want to be taken advantage of since we are the only ones that don`t have a car and everyone knows we have a spot and people have already parked there, hung out with lawn chairs out there, etc.

Baby-poll poll I would like to homeschool my daughter from kindergarten till second grade. Do you think I could do this and still keep my teaching job (work 8am-4pm and homeschool her from 5-7 or something)? Or are there homeschools where I could send her? The ideal would be for me to get a PT job and homeschool her OR be a SAHM and homeschool her, but please share any other possibilities! I currently teach in NYC and this is not the best system for fostering exploration and creativity and problem solving in children, IMO. I have also considered private/catholic schools. Currently, she is 20 months old, but I need to plan ahead in case of any financial needs for the future.

Baby-poll poll I learned that the song my daughter sings and dances to is NOT from a cartoon but from a dirty song. My sitter didn`t know about the double meaning of the song, but I did kindly address this with her without pointing fingers AT ALL. In fact, I went mainly told her the story about how I learned that the song is in fact dirty. Then I asked that my daughter not sing/dance to that song anymore. My husband went on to say that I make her feel awkward whenever I give her `speeches.` My sitter is like family to us now and I love her very much, but at the end of the day, this is my daughter and I have a right to say what I do or don`t want her exposed to. Was I right to address this with her even if it made her feel awkward? Do I need to apologize or something?

Baby-poll poll Please help: This week my daughter has been having a hard time falling asleep at bedtime. She fights it like the plague. She`ll want to play and babble and do anything other than go to bed. Nothing has changed; bedtime routine is the same, as is the actual time for starting/ending the routine. Tonight it was so bad because she didn`t nap at the sitter`s, so it ended with her having a catergory-5 temper tantrum, which involved screaming, hitting, pulling my hair, tensing her body, flailing about, and, lastly (the most scary) trembling and then doing some kind of twitching/trembling when we tried to give her some space on the floor. I gave her a remote control and calmed her down. She watched TV, which further calmed her down and once Yo Gabba Gabba was done she gradually fell asleep. Has this happened to your child? Is it normal? I should add that she is 15 months old and has had about 3 night terror instances back when she turned one. The doctor even went as far as wanting to get her an EEG if the night terrors continued. So, was this just a major temper tantrum on behalf of an overtired toddler or is there something more/wrong?
(Baby-poll poll by femi, 817 days ago)

Baby-poll poll My daughter is 14 months, growing all four molars at the same, and super whiny and cranky all the time. I teach and deal with whiny children all day so that by the time I get home, my patience has worn thin, unfortunately. I find myself really frustrated with how cranky she is and how many little tantrums she throws during the day. Will this end? Will I ever feel normal again? I long for my carefree teenage days often now. Are her tantrums going to get better? Sometimes I feel this is her personality but I know she is a bubbly, bright, smily girl and not this cranky, whiny, tantrum-throwing toddler. I often think about having only one kid.

Baby-poll poll My sitter has become like a part of our family. She lives in our building and has cared for our daught since she was six weeks old. She is caring and attentive. She loves our daughter like her own. She often chat about things outside of her caring for our little girl. But she has done a few things that I have not / am not comfortable, and I`m wondering if these things are happening because she is feeling more comfortable with us? Today, she gave my daughter `two drops` (supposedly, I don`t know, I wasn`t there) of another kid`s Children`s Tylenol Cold because she had a cough and a fever (when I called at lunch, she never mentioned the tylenol or fever even though it had happened in the morning). I just expressed my concern and told her I`d leave our own medicine of choice in the even of any future fevers, etc. She sounded apologetic because she kept saying it was only one or two drops, but I feel like a phone call would have been easy ... just to tell me that she had a fever and was planning to use the other kid`s Tylenol, which Children`s and not infants! She still needs the infant one! In the past, she has left the kids w/ her sister to get a haircut, which apologized for once I expressed my discomfort with that. I already love her like family. Is she just being caring and doing whatever to keep my daughter healthy and happy or has she crossed the line by thinking she can make her own decisions about my daughter`s care?

Baby-poll poll My daughter is persistent and keeps doing things that we tell her she cannot do. As a form of apology, she gives us kisses. It`s so heartwarming, but she`s starting to hit and then give immediate kisses. Will accepting the kiss-after-wrongdoing teach her that kisses are a good way to apologize or should we stop smiling at/accepting the kisses? She`s a year old and it`s super cute when she does it! Baby-poll poll Ok ... I am full of questions this week. LOL, I need some advice regarding my previous poll about going out during your baby`s first year. I want to attend a friend`s birthday bash, but it`s at night (probably between 9pm and whenever). My husband is really understanding of times I need to have coffee with a friend or go hang out with someone to release some stress from the week, work, baby, dogs, bills, life, etc. But those outings are always done before our daughter`s bedtime routine starts. This would be the first time he would be home with our daughter at night alone, in charge of everything from bathtime to bedtime ... alone. I feel so guilty about it. I mean, I`ve had plenty of nights alone with her, but because he had to work late, not because he was out partying. But my question is actually this: should I just say that I`m going out next Saturday night and that`s that? OR should I, essentially, ask him?

Baby-poll poll Can your 10-11 month old watch an entire 20-30 minute episode of any show (Baby Einstein, Noggin shows, etc)? Please, no comments on TV-watching and children. I`m trying to make some connections to personality. Kids I have babysat could sit for half hour episodes and you could use that time and get other things done really quickly. My daughter is like the energizer bunny and can`t stay still past the theme song of any show. Thanks!
