i'm 26, living in sunny south africa and looking so, so forward to our little munchkin getting here!! we'd been trying for two years, and were starting to think one of us might be broken, hehe! i've wanted this more than anything for what feels like ages and even with all the aches and pains every step of the way is worth it :)
20/01/08-well we've made it to 16 weeks with only one big hurdle (spending the night in hospital on my best friends wedding) feeling loads of flutters and our sonar on friday was possibly the cutest thing i have ever seen, munchkin was thumb sucking and moving around all over the place! can't wait to find out what we're having, just going to have to wait till our next appointment to find out...

15/03/08 - IT'S A GIRL!!!!!
15/06/08 - so hard to believe i only have a week and a day to go before little mikayela tania is here! going for my last dr's appointment on thursday and then he'll confirm the date of the c-section, for now it looks like 23 June! so hard to believe how quickly the time has gone by... nerves are definately starting to rattle, but i can't wait to be holding her in my arms!
19/06/08 - eeeek... had my last appoinment today and c-sec has been moved up to sunday, 22 at 5am! still nervous as can be but yay, our little angel is almost here :)

Hi thanks I've tryed shields I got they held it in better than what pads did but would be nice to wake up dry lol thats the only bad thing about him sleeping all night .. Thanks for replying .. :)

As i am now expressing for a top up to her feeds she is sleeping better. normally she has g=her unsettled time after the 2am feed and the Dr said this is because when your tired and run down at the end of the day your milk is not at its best and has less fat so bub is less satisfied. That combined with my lack of milk means i am up for hours from 2am. But last night after her top up she went back to sleep. YAY. I am on tablets now to help my milk supply and i weighed her tonight and finally after 8 days and a loss of 30gms she has gained 65 grams... I was so happy. I can also see i am getting more milk slowly as well so fingers crossed i can stop expressing soon as she would not take well to the formula i offered after her feed.

Yeah i wont wake her unless it is over 4 hours now. Then i just unwrap her blankets and she wakes up on her own.
I am ignoring all the nurses now as they all say something different so i will go with my gut and see what happens. She finally did a poo tonight after 10 days so i am so relieved. Hopefully that is why she was unsettled the past 3 nights. Hoping to get some sleep tonight as i have been up all night for the past 3 nights. I gave her a belly massage with olive oil this afternoon so maybe that helped loosen her up.
Sleep deprivation is the worst! My mother in law came yesterday from interstate to meet her grandaughter and when they turned up i was on the lounge in my pj's feeding and nothing was done. I had been up all night and the house was untidy and nothing was ready for lunch and i am sure i looked like hell. But who cares? She wasnt there to see me anyway. :)
I got my 9 year old to attempt to vacuum at least.
Fingers crossed we both get some sleep tonight.....

Thanks for your comments. It is so good to have people to talk to who are in the same stage. The nurse and clinic lady all say something different when they come out. I was expressing and not getting much out and then i would not have a full breast to feed her the next feed and she would scream more. So i have gone back to what was working for us. I feed her every 3 to 4 hours and she sleeps between feeds. She has full wet nappies and is happy and settled. I offer her both sides and she feeds for about 20 - 30 minuts either side. If by Tuesday she has not gained weight then i will revise and consider formula but when i wake her and express i end up just upsetting both of us and its not worth it. I have two other kids to look after as well. Plus the pump hurts like crazy. I keep expeccting to have blood blisters on the end of each nipple when im done. OUCH.

Thanks for your well wishes, and congrats on your baby girl. Hopefully I'll be holding mine really soon too! I have had one Winter baby before and I do remember those freezing nights........grrrrrr. But the good thing is not going through the end of pregnancy in severe heat, which I've also done before, and that's no fun either!

Thanks.l I am breastfeeding so i guess it is normal. She is having plebty of really wet nappies. I am not sure i ahve enough milk though as my boobs dont feel hard and she still seems hungry after i feed and very fussy when feeding like she is not getting enough out.
Not sure what to do. I just expressed before a feed to see how much i had and i could only get 40mls or 1.5 ounces. Is that enough?

There is a lot to be said for the old saying, "If you can't beat them - join them" but my hubby plays these soldier games and racing games and that just doesn't do it for me. I can just about manage a go on Eye toy or whatever that is called with the kids, cleaning windows and doing karate kicks but I can't see the appeal in the stuff he likes. Besides if I started playing who would do my mountain of ironing every night and all the packed lunches and sort out all the school bags etc etc. Still things could be so much worse when you read some of the things on this site. Last night was just a toughie. Best wishes.

Yeah, maybe we are better off without internals for now. Its just that I really expected more from this hospital because its one of the bigger ones in Lagos. They seem just as rigid as any other one to me...been told that I will definitely be on my back for delivery and if am not co operative might have my legs in stirrups, also that my husband might not be allowed to be with me; thought about changing hospitals earlier but the other one's I went to had one issue or the other too! Thank God our babies are healthy, staying optimistic about the whole birthing experience...might not be that bad right :) Blessings to you both!

Yeah its really nice to have someone to ask about things, my friend had her baby 4 weeks ago now- he was a couple of weeks early but is doing really well and he his really cute. I have a feeling ours will come early too from everything thats been happening these last few days but could be wishful thinking. Havent had an internal exam yet over here they dont really do them until your in labour unless you have a problem or something before. x

Cute in a little bikini. I just bought a maternity bathing suit because I'm too embarrassed. I have some stretch marks that really make me not wear a bikini and too much FAT!! Glad you had a good trip |
