My husband and I have been together since 1989... my soul mate! We were married in 1996, and after a difficult last month of pregnancy, culminating in 4 induction attempts, and a subsequent c-section at 12 days post date, we were blessed with our son Douglas on March 30th, 2003. After such a difficult birth experience and nursing not going the way I had planned (I ended up pumping breast milk for 12 MONTHS!) , we both decided that we were done having children, (I was already 32, and I couldn't imagine dealing with a teenager in my 50's!) Fast forward 41/2 years, we were where we wanted to be... home , car and I was looking into furthering my education since my son was now in school, ( I had been working full time prior to my sons birth, and chose to ' retire' temporarily to raise my son... another full time job!). I had been charting my menstrual cycles since 1992, when I decided to stop taking the pill, and that method for me worked flawlessly. I know not everyone has success with the rhythm method, but we were always careful, backing up with another method (condoms, sponges) on days that were risky. The end of November comes and I don't feel right... I wasn't late yet, but after you've used charting for birth control for 15 years, you get to really know your own body. So on a whim I go and buy a pregnancy test... knowing it will come back negative of course, but wanting to ease my mind about things ( I had done this a couple of times in the past 15 years, and they always came back negative). So rather than do the test at home, I decide to go to the nearest store with a public bathroom, I figured the sooner I get the thought out of my mind, the better. Well imagine my surprise when I get a big pink + sign. Being the logical ' in the know ' person I am, I knew there are NO false positives on pregnancy tests. I was pregnant! So I laughed, shook my head, and drove home to tell my hubby. I found him just about to take a shower ( it was still early on a Saturday) . I said through the bathroom door " I've got something you should see." Then I scooted the test under the door. I heard him pick it up, pause and say "Is this what I think it is?" I said" yes". "Oh." he said. Another pause, then " I'm just going to take my shower now." I laughed and said "Ok." Someone else might think ' how terrible! He didn't say a thing?' But I know my husband very well, and his analytical mind just had to process the info I had given him. So 10 minutes later, he comes out , gives me a big hug and a kiss and says " So, lets go look at cribs!" So here I am , exactly where I didn't think I would be right now! 16 week pregnant with #2! My son knows now , and is thrilled, although he insists on me giving him a little sister, so I hope I don't disappoint him! For myself, I just hope I can have a VBAC for this one, but I'm not placing any bets!

Ultrasound went really well, and everything looks perfect...it looks like another boy!

Monday, 17 Mar
We`ve chosen a name...William Edward. William, just because I like it, and Edward for my dad.

Wednesday, 26 Mar
Wow, I`m tired again like I was during the 1st trimester! I don`t think it helps that William `complains ` every time I change position in bed...kick, kick, kick! I think I`m going to end up with another`night owl ` like my first was. Sigh!

I know swelling is normal, but I've read to be more concerned if it is more in the hands and face then anywhere, be sure to call dr on monday if you are still just swelling in hands and or face too, especially if it seems a lot or all of a sudden :) I've just got puffy ankles so far :(

Mel-J - Friday, 9 May
Tks so much for the response I will wait full term for my baby.

MommaD - Thursday, 8 May
Are you sure it was the head you felt? I thought I was feeling my babies head, but now I'm convinced that it's her little rump. It's round and soft!

thank you for the response I have two other boys and I was fine too. Like you I am a healthy (117bs, 5'3") woman. The doctor hasn't called me so I am assuming the test came out ok. Thanks again:)

cute story on your new baby! :) i got a few tears from it...maybe cuz i just had my baby, but it IS a cute story. What did you mean when you said you had 4 induction attempts? They didnt work? What happens then? From your story I got that you didn't get the c-section right after an induction "attempt"...? Thank you for your comment...I havn't thought of the 'gift-wrapped' but i like that principle. :)

mrssection8 - Monday, 5 May
Thanks for the suggestion! And no worries about heavy perfumes, I'm allergic.

ABCmommy - Monday, 5 May
Thanks for your comment, actually I have a really good doctor so when my due date came and went he automatically schedualed an u/s (which showed she's healthy and great and no cord wrapped around her) and then schedualed when to start inducing since she's not coming on her own. Hope your pregnancy goes great!

preciousangels2 - Saturday, 3 May
Yeah, I'm sure he's just out like a light! Although it's just that he hasn't been moving in his usual pattern for the past 2 days. After the 3rd try of laying down with some juice, I got him to move around a bit and then I fell asleep with my 3yr old on the couch! I think that once Monday rolls around and he still isn't moving much, I'm going to call my doctor.

I'm right there with you as far as trying the flashlight trick. Works like a charm! Can it cause our baby's to be blind, or damage their eyes at all? Now I'm all worried...

tiffyW - Wednesday, 30 April
GREAT introduction.. I am originally from Toronto.. I am currently living over seas in France with my husband.. How are you feeling?

mummygabby - Tuesday, 29 April

aerykat - Monday, 28 April
Well I started out at a weight I didn't want to start out as, so i'm in the 170's now and SO not happy about it. I better not get up to my husband's weight or I will die. I've been still walking on the treadmill, but lately it's been making me sore, so I don't know how much longer i'll be doing that. 12 more weeks, I keep telling myself! Have a great week!

wedward - Saturday, 26 April
Angie,
Not to lecture, but you don't want to get yourself on bedrest. My troubles started the same as you and now I am on bedrest as I have written before. Lay low this weekend and for a while. Bedrest is very frustrating!!!!

mjeans - Friday, 25 April
Too bad they didn't have 'waddling olympics' as I would definately be a gold medalist...but I don't waddle all the time, its weird, I'll be walking and all of a sudden I'm waddling...at least we're still upright!!!!

littleone2008 - Wednesday, 16 April
