My husband and I have been together since 1989... my soul mate! We were married in 1996, and after a difficult last month of pregnancy, culminating in 4 induction attempts, and a subsequent c-section at 12 days post date, we were blessed with our son Douglas on March 30th, 2003. After such a difficult birth experience and nursing not going the way I had planned (I ended up pumping breast milk for 12 MONTHS!) , we both decided that we were done having children, (I was already 32, and I couldn't imagine dealing with a teenager in my 50's!) Fast forward 41/2 years, we were where we wanted to be... home , car and I was looking into furthering my education since my son was now in school, ( I had been working full time prior to my sons birth, and chose to ' retire' temporarily to raise my son... another full time job!). I had been charting my menstrual cycles since 1992, when I decided to stop taking the pill, and that method for me worked flawlessly. I know not everyone has success with the rhythm method, but we were always careful, backing up with another method (condoms, sponges) on days that were risky. The end of November comes and I don't feel right... I wasn't late yet, but after you've used charting for birth control for 15 years, you get to really know your own body. So on a whim I go and buy a pregnancy test... knowing it will come back negative of course, but wanting to ease my mind about things ( I had done this a couple of times in the past 15 years, and they always came back negative). So rather than do the test at home, I decide to go to the nearest store with a public bathroom, I figured the sooner I get the thought out of my mind, the better. Well imagine my surprise when I get a big pink + sign. Being the logical ' in the know ' person I am, I knew there are NO false positives on pregnancy tests. I was pregnant! So I laughed, shook my head, and drove home to tell my hubby. I found him just about to take a shower ( it was still early on a Saturday) . I said through the bathroom door " I've got something you should see." Then I scooted the test under the door. I heard him pick it up, pause and say "Is this what I think it is?" I said" yes". "Oh." he said. Another pause, then " I'm just going to take my shower now." I laughed and said "Ok." Someone else might think ' how terrible! He didn't say a thing?' But I know my husband very well, and his analytical mind just had to process the info I had given him. So 10 minutes later, he comes out , gives me a big hug and a kiss and says " So, lets go look at cribs!" So here I am , exactly where I didn't think I would be right now! 16 week pregnant with #2! My son knows now , and is thrilled, although he insists on me giving him a little sister, so I hope I don't disappoint him! For myself, I just hope I can have a VBAC for this one, but I'm not placing any bets!

Ultrasound went really well, and everything looks perfect...it looks like another boy!

Monday, 17 Mar
We`ve chosen a name...William Edward. William, just because I like it, and Edward for my dad.

Wednesday, 26 Mar
Wow, I`m tired again like I was during the 1st trimester! I don`t think it helps that William `complains ` every time I change position in bed...kick, kick, kick! I think I`m going to end up with another`night owl ` like my first was. Sigh!

i hear you! i have been hungry since the second i got pregnant! i also had no morning sickness and have been trying to eat healthy, but i'm definitely packing on the pounds!

ohmama - Thursday, 13 Mar
I can definitely relate! I cannot stop eating, my husband says that I eat bison when he isn't looking. Isn't he sweet?! I can go about 2 hours and then need to eat again. This little boy is hungry all of the time. So, just eat and enjoy and you are making wise choices so don't feel guilty to give into cravings.

aville - Thursday, 13 Mar
I definitely can relate!! I gained 18 lbs also! I am just so hungry all the time. I really like cereal for snacks... I guess the calcium is good. I had two lunches yesterday. I feel like I have to restrain myself, but I really don't want to... Good luck to you and just indulge!!

Thanks for your comments on circumcision...I just dont think I could do it to my boy unless there was a damn good reason and I cant find one. I certainly dont want to cut him just so he'll look like dad or other people. This is a tough decision in our society, but I think I have to go with saying no to having it done :) Thanks!

HI - thank you for sharing with me. My mom stayed home with us until about 6th grade and it truly was the best thing ever. I am looking around and I am so mad at myself for buying into the whole idea that we had to have all this stuff that required two incomes. It seems so shallow and stupid. I am going to sit down with my husband tonight and figure this out. I really don't think I can leave her nor will I want to. Good luck to you and thanks again!

aejh143 - Wednesday, 12 Mar
i know! my mom didn't have to worry and fret about half the stuff i do. kinda crazy. it's actually overwhelming since I don't know what is just extremist type information and what is truth. such a shame...

Hi. I saw your blog in the SPD forum and I also have the problem now where I can't lay down and I am trying to figure out what to do. I don't have a recliner but I thought about sleeping on the Sofa sitting up. I can't figure out why it hurts worse when you lay down. I still have 4 weeks left and I just dread when it comes time to go to sleep. So, are you having the same pains with this pregnancy? I had it with my first one too but nowhere near as bad as this one!! I hope you don't get it again. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope all goes well for you and your family. :)

Thanks for responding! I had my Dr check me for IC at my last visit - I was 16w5d. My cervial length looked fine then (3.5 cm). Fortunately the pains stopped as soon as I got back to work and I haven't felt anything since then... is that feeling a sign of IC? I've been terrified of having that problem due to some things in my past... I suppose I should have them check my cervical length again at my next visit on the 20th. Everything else seems to be perfectly normal -he's moving like crazy. I just thought maybe they were BH - although it seems a little early for that business. Please let me know if you have any insight - I'm all ears. Thanks again :)

HI - I am actually really jealous of Canada's universal healthcare. I currently pay a $600/mo healthcare premium and STILL have minimums and deductibles. All in all, this baby will end up costing more than 10-15k. I completely agree with you that instituting a new healthcare system in which public companies have dominated would be difficult. Our government is so volatile and corrupt right now though that it's hard to know who is screwing us harder - lol. And because of that I don't think universal health care would work here. But I do wish they would control costs. We have definitely considered moving your way.

I really wanted a girl too because i have two boys but once I saw my little peanut moving around in there I didn't care what his gender was I fell in love and I'm so excited to meet him! Congrats on your son. :)

thanks!

Thanks for writing about the cream. I think you are right and the Palmers Cocoa Butter is too rich for me. I bought the one in the little jar, and that one is so concentrated. I'm going to get the Aveno today. I'm trying to prevent stretch marks.

Alicia23 - Wednesday, 5 Mar

I switched my vitamins a week ago. Went to the chewables ones! Maybe that is it!!!
I hope so! Thanks, I didn't think of that at all!

Aerykat - Sunday, 2 Mar
Thanks for caring. They didn't tell me what it was. Just that I had bronchitis. They put me on 3 pills but the other 2 weren't doing anything for me, so i'm just taking the antibiotic and it is helping. Can't wait to feel 100% again. Baby boy has been moving a lot too the last few days, so that's been fun. I love it! Hope you had a great weekend! *HUGS*
