My husband and I have been together since 1989... my soul mate! We were married in 1996, and after a difficult last month of pregnancy, culminating in 4 induction attempts, and a subsequent c-section at 12 days post date, we were blessed with our son Douglas on March 30th, 2003. After such a difficult birth experience and nursing not going the way I had planned (I ended up pumping breast milk for 12 MONTHS!) , we both decided that we were done having children, (I was already 32, and I couldn't imagine dealing with a teenager in my 50's!) Fast forward 41/2 years, we were where we wanted to be... home , car and I was looking into furthering my education since my son was now in school, ( I had been working full time prior to my sons birth, and chose to ' retire' temporarily to raise my son... another full time job!). I had been charting my menstrual cycles since 1992, when I decided to stop taking the pill, and that method for me worked flawlessly. I know not everyone has success with the rhythm method, but we were always careful, backing up with another method (condoms, sponges) on days that were risky. The end of November comes and I don't feel right... I wasn't late yet, but after you've used charting for birth control for 15 years, you get to really know your own body. So on a whim I go and buy a pregnancy test... knowing it will come back negative of course, but wanting to ease my mind about things ( I had done this a couple of times in the past 15 years, and they always came back negative). So rather than do the test at home, I decide to go to the nearest store with a public bathroom, I figured the sooner I get the thought out of my mind, the better. Well imagine my surprise when I get a big pink + sign. Being the logical ' in the know ' person I am, I knew there are NO false positives on pregnancy tests. I was pregnant! So I laughed, shook my head, and drove home to tell my hubby. I found him just about to take a shower ( it was still early on a Saturday) . I said through the bathroom door " I've got something you should see." Then I scooted the test under the door. I heard him pick it up, pause and say "Is this what I think it is?" I said" yes". "Oh." he said. Another pause, then " I'm just going to take my shower now." I laughed and said "Ok." Someone else might think ' how terrible! He didn't say a thing?' But I know my husband very well, and his analytical mind just had to process the info I had given him. So 10 minutes later, he comes out , gives me a big hug and a kiss and says " So, lets go look at cribs!" So here I am , exactly where I didn't think I would be right now! 16 week pregnant with #2! My son knows now , and is thrilled, although he insists on me giving him a little sister, so I hope I don't disappoint him! For myself, I just hope I can have a VBAC for this one, but I'm not placing any bets!

Ultrasound went really well, and everything looks perfect...it looks like another boy!

Monday, 17 Mar
We`ve chosen a name...William Edward. William, just because I like it, and Edward for my dad.

Wednesday, 26 Mar
Wow, I`m tired again like I was during the 1st trimester! I don`t think it helps that William `complains ` every time I change position in bed...kick, kick, kick! I think I`m going to end up with another`night owl ` like my first was. Sigh!

Thanks so much for the wonderful advice re bedding! It's so hard not to get carried away! lol. Wow, how hard is it going to be not to spoil the kid rotten if this is what I'm like even before he's born??

Nice to meet a fellow rhythm method-er... I believe in it now like no other method of contraception! worked flawlessly for me for almost 3 years with my husband... until now, which I thought was a big whoops, until my husband told me this was HIS idea ;) lol. He's actually always kept better track of my cycles than I have lol.

anyway congrats to you! and thanks again!

Thanks so much for the advice. Have a Dr.'s appointment at 1130, so i'll be able to know what the heck is wrong. I haven't felt this horrible in a long time. I'm so hungry and so tired and SO MISERABLE! :oP I'm just worried about my bebe. Seen him yesterday and just even more real to me now. Thanks!

Thank you for your advice and comments. I will bring this up to my Dr as I was thinking the same thing that my baby could be wrapped up in her cord or something. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you so much!! I was wondering what a chemical pregnancy was. Maybe that is what happened! I still havent started I think I am six days late...is there any need for me to call my obgyn if i dont start in a week?? Since we are trying to get pregnant I am not sure...if maybe something else is going on since I didnt start my period or should i wait for it until next month...i never miss periods. thanks a lot for your help!!

Thanks for the advice, Angela. I probably came off sounding anxious and wacky, but I was very upset that day. I had a fibroid removed almost 4 years ago (and, yes, my uterus was cut into) and I don't want to have this one removed if it can be avoided, for the very reason that I don't want to compromise my ability to have more children. My logic was that if the blood was flowing, then those swimmers should get in--thanks for backing that up! All the best in your pregnancy. :)

bunintheoven - Friday, 22 Feb

Hi there, Thanks for the info. How long has it been since your last child was born?...I had a vaginally birth with my first no drugs he was 10 lbs, and c-section with my second, It's be 2 years in april, and i'm due in july. It would be nice to have a vbac- since i have a 5 y/o and a 2 y/o, and won't have to be in the hospital so long. Does your doctor support you 100%?

tdawn - Sunday, 17 Feb
Thank you for your comment about the baby's movement! I am trying to not stress about it as much and am waiting patiently to begin feeling movements more frequently now! My next ultrasound is on the 22nd and I cannot wait to see my little one again!

onmywayto3 - Friday, 15 Feb
Thank you!! I agree, it shouldn't have thinned or anything (my uterus)...but one thing that eats at me is the fact that since I was induced with TONS of pitocin ( so much that it knocked my epidural out and the anestisiologist told the nurse to shut it off!! ) and the only part that was KILLING me was where my csection scar was...nothing else, I had contractions that were 10-15 seconds apart that lasted over a minute or two.(total labor was 21 hours)..so that eats at me too...GRRRR I so want another VBAC...I'll just pray about it and maybe God will show me the right thing to do but no matter what a VBAC is soo much better than a csection...I wish you the best of luck and I hope your pregnancy goes well....I'm going to have a heart to heart with my dr on Monday and see if he'll change his mind, which I doubt, but he'll know how much I HATE having another csection...oh well...good luck!!!! AND thanks for your advice!

wedward - Friday, 15 Feb
Thanks for the info. My doctor says she wants me to come in in the morning just to check it out but she's not real concerned at this point. I'll let you know...

onmywayto3 - Thursday, 14 Feb
Thank you for your comments! There are actually a lot of dr's in his office...as far as hospitals go, I don't think it's the hospital's rule, as my husband says it's just easier for the dr to schedule a csection rather than let a woman go into labor, the hospital I'm going to is already about 45-55 minutes away and the next one is further...the dr actually has 3 or 4 women going before me on the same day...I have to wait until 5pm...I'm going to tell him at my next appt that I really don't want a csection and if I go into labor before my scheduled date to please allow me to labor and progress....if he refuses, I'll ask him if I can see his midwife instead since he doesn't feel comfortable being in that situation..we'll see how it goes...he just keeps saying, well I gave a woman a csection and her uterus was so thin you can see the babies hair through the uterus...like his midwife says, it's a long debate between all ob's and that she's been practicing ob since 1989 and has only seen one case of a utern erruption...that she has a patient that had one csection and is having her 5th VBAC now and she allows it...I just hope that I'm making the right choice...because she may be over 8 pounds ( my first two was 8pounds 9 ounces ) and I will feel stupid if she gets stuck or there is distress that's the last thing I want is to make this decision and something DOES happen to her...but again it's less than 1% chance...grrrr, I'm so frustrated! Thanks so much for your advice,it's highly appriciated!!!!!

kara8385 - Wednesday, 13 Feb
Thank you for the information on the average time women go into labor. That is actually exactly what I was looking for. I was not quite sure if there was an average or not. Thanks again!! Good luck in your pregnancy. :)

rosiebaby2 - Tuesday, 29 Jan
thanks for your story. I certainly hope that I don't go 12 days over!!! I have the u/s today so am keen to see my little man... Will find out eventually what my story is...just goes to show that babies seem to make up their own minds and ignore everyone else...lol. Again, thanks for sharing x
