having a baby

Mom -

Age:

30

First child?:

Yep

About the daddy!

Age:

30

First child?:

Yes

Finding out!!

What day did u find out?:

I think it was March 24

How did u feel when u found out?:

Thrilled, shocked, nervous, awed

Who was with u?:

My husband - he hadn't left for work yet and we did two HPT's

Who was the first person u told?:

Well - my husband. After him - the doctor to get it confirmed...then officially, I think it was my parents and brother

How did they react?:

The docs office - politely happy for me; my parents and brother - we told them at Easter when they came out to visit us, I don't think they processed what we were saying at first it was so out of the blue...then really excited :)

How did the daddy react?:

Similar reaction to mine

Telling the grandparents!

How did ur parents react?:

See above

How did his parents react?:

Very happy - this is the first grandchild for both sets of parents.

Are they helping with baby names?:

No, we talk about names with them all, but they are not the types to try to sway our opinions on things like this.

Have they bought anything for the baby yet?:

I don't think so...if they have, they have not given them to us yet!

How often do they call to check on u?:

A couple of times a week - my parents more often than his.

About the pregnancy!

When was ur first appointment?:

early April

When is ur due date?:

Dec 1, 2007

How far along r u?:

22 weeks as of 7/28

Have u had an ultrasound?:

Yes

Have u heard the heartbeat?:

Yes - first time at @ 8 weeks and several times since - always nice and strong :)

What was the heartbeat?:

It peaked around 187 at once visit earlier on, which seemed high but they said it was fine. The last few times I have heard it, seems to have settled in the 140's

Sex of the baby!

Have u had ur big ultrasound yet?:

We have had three - one testing @ 12 weeks, one emergency at 14 weeks, and one routine at 20 weeks.

If so, what r u having?:

The first one said she thought a boy but too early to tell for sure. ER said she wasn't sure but thought a girl, and 20 week US they said a girl even though I couldn't tell what she was pointing t on the screen!

Are u happy with what u r having?:

Of course, we would be happy no matter what.

About the birth!

Do u know what u r taking with u?:

Calm music, comfy clothes, maybe my own pillow (I am very attached to my pillow!)

Who is going to be with u?:

In the delivery room? Just my husband. I think there are other people who expect to be there, but at least this first time I really feel like this is something for just the two of us.

Are u going to videotape it?:

No. I do think it is miraculous and all, but still...

Natural or medicated?:

I would like to think I could do natural, but I am not adverse to pain meds, either. I would really like to avoid pitocin if possible, it sounds horrid.

Do u think u will need a c-section?:

I guess I wouldn't be surprised, but everything seems fine so far.

Will u cry with u hold ur baby for the first time?:

Probably.

Do u know what u will say to the baby when u first hold him/her?:

I am sure I will initially be speechless.

Are u scared about the labor?:

Well - not yet, I guess. I am nervous it will come to soon or too late and concerned that I do everything possible to make sure she will be okay. I hope not to have an insanely long labor - like my cousin's first baby with which she was in labor 45 hours and then still had to have a c-section (she was able to do a v-bac for the second, and labor was only like 10 hours the second time). But the actual pain of labor, I will be so excited to have a the baby, and relatively speaking it will be short no matter what considering all we go through with the pregnancy for all this time!

Names!!

Do u have a name picked out?:

No

Girl names...:

Our current favorites are Catherine (Cate), Ava, Emma, and Sophia. Although I don't want to pick a super popular name, and I realize these all are to one degree or another.

Boy names...:

We liked Matthew Urban when we thought it was a boy -- my grandfather and uncle who have passed were both named Urb/Urban (German name)

Is ur baby going to be named after someone?:

The middle name will have some sort of familial significance.

Other random questions!!

Have you felt the baby move?:

All the time. I love it. First time I felt it was around 16 weeks, which I guess is early for a first time mom. But it makes me feel so much better as I know she is okay. Before I felt the movements, I worried all the time - esp considering I ended up in the ER with bleeding that they never did figure out the cause of at 14 weeks.

What race will your baby have? From you and daddy?:

I assume this question relates to cultural heritage...me: German, French and English. From her daddy: 1/2 Slovenian and 1/2 German

Do you have stretch marks?:

Starting to get some, no matter how much I moisturize - must be predisposed!

What was your first symptom?:

late period, funny feeling.

What religion will the baby know? And from what side?:

We were both baptized Catholic, but neither of us nor our immediate families are very religious in a traditional sense - we are both spiritual and believe in a higher power/God. We have some religious extended family that this is very important to, however. And I do think understanding various religions is an important part of cultural and social understanding, and can help to instill a good basic moral grounding in life. So, we'll see.

What music or interests do you want the baby to know?:

We really want to expose the baby to lots of things and have her pick what she loves best. But we really want her to have a few things she is passionate in one way or another. Music, Sports, Culture, Foreign languages, Travel, Work Ethic, you name it.

Will ur baby have godparents?:

I actually never thought of that until right now. I don't know!

Who will the god mommy be?:

Not sure.

Who will the god daddy be?:

Not sure.

What is the baby's room theme?:

Brown (wood), Greens and pink/reds...a general theme of nature - flowers, animals, etc.

What was the first thing u bought for the baby?:

I have been combing the nice baby stores for sales as the season go along- so I can get cute things for next year, at good prices!

Are u ready to be a mommy?

I am so ready - I am glad we waited until now, and feel so blessed and overwhelmed that it is actually happening! Just 18 more weeks! I will be very anxious as we get close...a week or two early would be nice, but not too early it is not good for her. And hopefully not too late they have to induce or we have to be worried!
