My profile
I'm finally pregnant!
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 3 years and after some help it has finally happened. After lots of visits to the doctor and investigatios we found out that my husband had Coeliacs disease (severe gluten intolerance). This had completely destroyed his intestinal villi which normally makes sure that vitamins and minerals are absorbed by the body. As my husband hardly had any sperm at all, they though that this was the problem (as vitamins and minerals are essential for sperm production). After another 1-2 years he had recovered quite well but his sperm count was still pretty much non-existing. Now they don't know that the cause of this is and we went through an ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) cycle. It's like IVF but they inject the sperm into the egg as there are too low numbers for the sperm to fertilise the egg themselves. Following the embryo transfer I got an abdominal infection (0.2 %chance!) and it got really and. Very high fever and excruciating pain. The embryo hadn't implanted as early as expected so they didn't think it would make it (<10% survival they said). Then they said it would definitely not make it as the fever would have killed it off (< 0.02% survival rate they said). Then I started to bleed quite heavily and I though it was the m/c coming. After lots of ultrasounds and several weeks later my little fighter is still there . Kicking around like crazy with a strong heart beat. I'm still bleeding but they found an area of bleeding in the uterus and hopefully it will stop one day. I'm really happy it's still all fine as I don't rally want to go through all that again (not until it's time for a sibling anyway). We call him/her Allan for now.
