As far as how far apart goes most docs tell you to try to have them 2 years apart so that your body will be able to heal and have a preper rest in between. Mine will be 20 months apart. it is hard someetimes trying to manage my daughter while being preggo because she does not understand and she likes to try to be rough with me (daddy is rough with her nad she loves it) so she will try to jump on my and my tummy and such. Or try to crawl over me. it depends on the maturity and personality of the child. If you have help then it is totally doable. I have a friend who is 13 months ypounger than her sister so it is done. My dad had two kids one year apart. it just depends on how YOU feel and if you feel you are ready. I was ready and we planned this pregnancy. Yes it is your body and your decision, but one that you should share with your DH. Just as you would not want him making family decisions without you. My DH wants to get a vascectomy, but he would never do it unless we BOTH said OK becaue yes it is his body, but HIS decision to not have any more kids (even though most are reversible) is not just his decision. I am sure if you decide to wait he will understand. I can say that i in no way regret my decision not to wait.

I think your SIL is just being jealous and selfish. She does not want her mom focusing on you, but her nad needs to realize that her mother has two kids that are having babies and there is enough love to go around. If your MIL is going through a breakup focusing on the baby will keep her mind off of it. A baby is a joy and blessing and not a chore so why would inviting her to your shower be harmful? Is she not inviting her mother to her baby shower when she has it?
