Hey, nothing here yet!
Monday, 21 Jan
HelloMy name `s Caroline J and I `m currently 31 weeks pregnant. I was previously registered here as CazJbaby but I lost my login. I `ve had a really easy time during my pregnancy as far as problems and complications are concerned and I `ve really loved every minute so far. (Well, except for the occasional bouts of constipation but I find prunes work wonders if anyone `s interested, although I hate them and they make me gag!).Life whilst I `ve been pregnant however hasn `t been quite so straight forward and this baby is well travelled even before they have been born. We started off this pregnancy living in Chicago, well, Evanston IL. to be exact. Originally from the UK, we had been living in the states for 2 years, but we had decided it was time to come home. In September 2007 we flew back to the UK. I was 12 weeks pregnant at the time and thankfully the morning sickness and ingestion I had suffered from had faded away. Didn `t get morning sickness that bad though not as bad as I know some people get. My first antenatal appointment was in my home town but we were only staying there for a week. However we got to hear the babies heart beat for the first time and it made me cry. We then travelled to the other end of the UK to my husbands home town where I had my first scan at 14 weeks. Everything looked great and it was amazing to see this new little person. After a week of staying with my husbands parent house we moved finally to Scotland where we started our new jobs in October 2007. However our traveling was still not done as we lived in two different rented houses during October and November while we looked for something more permanent, A little house of our own to buy so we could build our nest. Whilst all this was going on I saw several different midwives but managed to keep up with all the antenatal appointments. I think I felt the baby move at about 16 weeks which I think is quite early for a first timer. Finally we had our booking appointment at the hospital when I was 18 1/2 weeks and we had our detailed scan at the same time. Again everything looked great and I was amazed at how clear the images were. Baby didn `t move much but when they came to take a picture for us to keep I think baby moved as it came out blurry. I decided I didn `t want to know if we were having a boy or girl although my husband would have liked to have known, but in the end he left it down to me and I said no when the midwife asked. Saying that though we looked carefully at the screen to see if we could work it out for ourselves. My husband thought he saw some little boys bits so we think it maybe a boy.Eventually, we moved into our house at the beginning of December. However still nothing goes smoothly, I `m just grateful that baby seems to be doing well and is oblivious to all the extra complication they have caused.

The baby has been really active the past few days and I `m starting to feel pressure just under my ribs though it isn `t painful. The baby pushes their foot out occasionally which is really cool as I can actually feel the little foot. When I press on it the baby wriggles away. I have been starting to panic a little over all the things we have left to buy for the baby. I `m really focussing on nappies. I `m keen to use cloth nappies as apart from the fact that they will save us a considerable amount of money over 2-3 years they are also environmentally friendly. Unfortunately the initial cost is high. We had a trial pack of Nature Babies nappies which we really liked (We tried them out on a stuffed monkey!) and I think we are going to go with them at least initially. I `m just starting to think about planning my hospital bag. Unfortunately there aren `t many shops where I live that sell the things I need which is frustrating. We have most of the large items ordered tough such as the buggy (travel system) and nursery furniture. My dad `s project is to build us a wardrobe and storage cupboard for the babies room. (Thank goodness for Dads!). Oh I just thought we still need to get a moses basket. I hope we can get all this ready by March. We `re running out of time fast!

Had my first major pregnancy related discomfort this week. I have the worst pain at the top of my left leg. It hurts most when I `m walking. It `s not too bad in the morning but gradual gets worse and more stiff throughout the day. I have a checkup with the midwife on Thursday so will let her know. She `ll probably just say it `s ligament pain. Still, shouldn `t complain too much. Some people are going through far more than me. I `m still feeling relatively energentic but starting to feel the strain of carrying an extra person around with me. This week I ordered myself a baby sling from ebay. I looked into them quite a bit and I think a sling will be very useful for breast feeding discretely. Not so sure whether I will put enough faith in it to carry the baby around everywhere especially outside so I think I will still make full use of the pram we have on order.Everything else is coming together. Hopefully our mosses basket will be waiting for us when we get home from work tonight. All nappies are ordered and even my hospital bag is taking shape. Tomorrow I `m going to visit the local nursery to check it out. We won `t need a place until September as I `m taking 6 months maternity leave but the sooner we get a place sorted the better. Just in case they fill up.

Had my 34 week midwife appointment yesterday. All is well and baby is head down and ready to go. The babies heart rate has slowed right down and the sound has changed to more of a thump rather than a whoosh. It was the fastest appointment ever we were in and out in 5 minutes. I told her about my pain in my leg and she said it was the cartilage around my pelvis softening. It sounded to me like SPD but she said just take it easy and try not to open my legs too much especially when getting in and out of the car. Also try to avoid going up and down stairs more than I have to. She didn `t seem concerned and made no changes to my birth plan. I don `t have it as bad as some poor women but I don `t want to aggravate it further. The pain is alot better. I think it has improved as I have been sleeping with a pillow between my knees.

Had a really busy weekend cleaning. I think I over did it as I ache all over today. Still the house is looking better than ever. I washed all the babies sheets too for the mosses basket and pram. They looked wonderful blowing on the washing line! After I had washed the little sheets my mum said I should wash the babies clothes too! If I had thought I could have put them in with the sheets. My visit to the nursery last week was an interesting one. It was the first nursery I had every been in. It seemed a nice place and it sounds like they will have room for a baby in September. It `s going to be expensive to have them in nursery 9-6 5 days a week though so I `m wondering if I should see if I could have more flexible hours when I come back to work at least for a short time. I `m wondering whether I should go visit another nursery in the area to have something to compare with. We decided on our nappies. If anyone reads this and is interested, I decided to buy Nature Babies mainly because they are a UK based company and I like to buy local if I can. I `m going to use the Terry squares/muslin squares with a wrap as they are the cheapest option, the pocket nappy stuffables as they look very convenient to use (just have one ready stuffed with the absorbent bit in the changing bag when out and they will be ready to use like a disposable I `m guessing), and finally the diddy diapers with a wrap as they look really easy to use and think they will be good for nighttime changes. I `ve bought 20 nappies in total but may get more terry towels if that `s not enough. My biggest problem however has been finding a local shop that sells nappy soak or nappisan. I know people say you don `t have to soak cloth nappies but if they are stained what else can you do!? The woman in ASDA actually told me to boil the nappies. That `s not very environmentally friendly, neither is it any good for the nappy! Fortunately my mum has bought 2kg of nappy soak! from Tesco so that will last quite a while I hope (I love that shop. They always provide good customer service. I wish there was one round where I live). My mum also bought 600 biodegradable nappy liners! She is a star!

I felt very guilty last night. Whilst frying sausages for our tea I didn `t realize how hot my belly was getting while standing in front of the stove. Baby was moving quite a bit but I didn `t think anything of it until I happened to put my hand on my belly. I hope it didn `t hurt them :-(

Haven `t had a migraine for a few days (touch wood) and I `m hoping they will stay away for the rest of the pregnancy. Been getting a lot of indigestion the past few days. Hopefully that means they will have lots of hair - I don `t want a bald baby! I wish I could start maternity leave. When people said about the tiredness you feel at the end of pregnancy I never really understood what they meant. Now I do. It `s not just being a bit tired. I ache and have to shuffle around like an old woman at times and by the afternoon I can barely keep my eyes open. I `ve been tired from working long hours before but this is definitely different.

Well, another busy weekend for my husband (not so much for me). My dad and my husband spent the whole weekend in the babies room building a wardrobe/cupboard. We had a large cupboard there before but it was just a big useless space. Now we have a wardrobe and lots of shelves for storage. They did so well. I `m really impressed with it. Our cot bed was assembled the previous weekend by my father in law and my husband. Now all we have to do is assemble the changing table/chest of drawers, paint the room, and hang the curtains and it will be complete.I sent in my application for maternity allowance last week. Don `t get paid maternity leave as I `ve not worked for my employer long enough. Still waiting to hear about MA but probably won `t be entitled to that either as we have previously been out of the country but we `ll see, we might be lucky. Physically I `m feeling pretty good. I still have slight pain at the top of my leg when I walk but it `s ok. Been getting a few of what I think are braxton hicks contractions with tightening across the top of my belly. At first I thought it was the baby pressing up with their feet. Also today I `ve been getting some mild backache and it has occurred to me that it feels a lot like the backache I used to get at the beginning of my period so I wonder if that could be like contractions too. I hope not. I don `t want this baby to come yet. I don `t start maternity leave for another week and I def don `t want them born on Friday 29th Feb as they will only get a birthday every 4 years!

Wednesday, 13 Feb I am also getting migraines a lot lately. I've had them for years as well, but they seemed to have gotten more severe with the pregnency. I had aura's before but now parts of my body go numb and my speech is affected so that I am confused, can't for sentences or communicate what's going on. Kinda like being drunk. My doc sent me to a neurologist and she said that's just the natrue of my migraines and until I have the baby they can't really do anything. Now I just have an action plan for when I feel it coming, but it's pretty scary.

Friday, 25 Jan Hey...I'm sort of panicked about the diaper thing too. I think we'll use disposables for the first little while as there will be SO MUCH to think about, laundry is something I'm happy to cut down on. Then once the baby finds a routine and starts using fewer diapers a day we'll switch.
I have a nightgown, robe, moisturizer, slippers, gum, lip balm, nursing bra and pads, maxi pads, underwear, socks, a book and my Mp3 player in a bag. Thats all I think I really need...I think....as for baby...blanket, hat, mits, diapers and something to wear home. Thats it. All they really need is your boob!
Good luck!!!! mommaj -

Thursday, 24 Jan Hi Thanks for your message. I have been to the docs today and they have said I have really low Iron and Vit B12 which could be the cause of my mouth problems. I have got to take Iron tablets but the B12 will have to wait till after the baby. Decided to finish work in 2 weeks cause I am just really worn out. After reading your page it sounds like you have been really busy moving around. Glad your settled and getting organised for your little. We are just in the middle of swopping kids rooms and decorating and having a conservatory built and the whole thing just stressing me out. Hopefully all will be sorted for end of March. Good Luck and take care x KateS -
Wednesday, 16 Jan Hey! Perfect, I just read your post as I was looking for a place to ask a question about labor! Did you happen to get any good suggestions about what to wear during the entire thing? Seems like it should be the least of my worries, but I can't stop thinking about it. Comfort and privacy, very important.....My pre-natal instructor has been stressing NO hospital gowns, that they are demeaning and immediately place you in the "sick and/or fragile" category. So I need to wear something good to walk around in, deliver in, AND breastfeed in. Other than a toga, I can't think of a single suitable thing. I kind of want to buy some sweat pants and cut a flap out of them (yes, sick) but not sure that one should make it to the hospital.....
