~~~~It's a GIRL!!!~~~~
Congratulations to everyone expecting. We are currently expecting our 5th child. We had some trouble with miscarriages last year so we are cautiously optimistic about this pregnancy. Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months!
8 weeks 3 days ultrasound.
March 6th
I had my first appointment with my OB today. All my blood work from my 8 week nurse appointment came back perfectly fine. I was so relieved that the doctor was able to find a heartbeat!!! 169 BPM!!! We talked about different prenatal testing that she would like me to do. I agreed to the new Ultrascreen test for sure. The next test would be the AFP followed up by a level II ultrasound. After some research I discovered that the AFP is the same thing as the triple marker test so I plan to discuss this with her at my next appointment since I don't want the triple marker test done due to the high false-positive rate. Appointments have been made for the Ultrascreen, which involves a blood test followed up by a detailed ultrasound. The blood test will be March 10th and the ultrasound on March 25th. My level II ultrasound has also been scheduled for May 6th.
Freak-out day! Had some spotting yesterday so I headed into the doctor's office for her to check on the baby's heartbeat. I was relieved to hear it still beating strong at 162BPM. I recorded the sound on my MP3 player. Here's the only way I figured out to be able to share it:
Ultrascreen Day!
Katie, Ashley, Ryan and my husband came with me to the ultrasound today. Julia didn't want to ruin her perfect attendance record at school so she opted to go to school instead...crazy girl! We were AMAZED at how developed the baby is already! The doctor was very patient and took his time to show us everything we wanted to see. His preliminary assessment is that we are having another little girl, but he makes no guarantees till after our 19 week ultrasound on May 6th! Everything looked PERFECT! Our risk for Downs or other Trisomy disorders was lowered based on this test. The little heart was pounding away at 153BPM. Baby was measuring a little big too, 13 weeks 5 days instead of 13 weeks 1 day. I have big babies so that doesn't surprise me! "She" looks beautiful! Here are some pics:
April 3rd
Another great appointment! Not much exciting to talk about today. Baby's heart is 155BPM. We could hear the little one moving around so that was pretty cool. The doctor asked what I had decided about the AFP. I said I'd rather not, she was fine with that decision! We're still set with the next detailed ultrasound on May 6th. We'll know gender for sure that day.
~Update~
Our next ultrasound has been moved from May 6th to May 1st!
Just another routine OB visit. Fundus is level with my belly button. Heart rate is 158. We're all set for another month! Ultrasound tomorrow!!! YAY!!!
May 1st
It's a GIRL!!! We had our ultrasound today. Everything looks great! Baby was moving around like crazy. They estimate that she is about 9 inches long and weighs about 10 ounces. Heart rate was 155 today.
22 week check-up. After nearly an hour of waiting the doctor finally came in to see me. Baby sounded good...heart rate was 135 today. She confirmed that everything from my last ultrasound looked great. She told me that I'll have 2 more 4-week appointments...so June 26th and July 24th...and then I go to 2-week appointments. It's flying by! I signed consent for my tubal and we're going to plan to have it done right after the birth if things work out with timing. If that doesn't work out then I'll go in a couple of weeks after for the procedure.
June 26th
26 week check-up. Everything is going well. Baby's heart rate is 156BPM today. This is the first time my dr. has measured my belly...and I'm measuring 30cm...yikes! I have to schedule my glucose screening for sometime between July 1st and the 15th. That should be fun!
*************************************
July 24th
30 week check-up. Another good appointment. Baby's heart rate is at 145. Belly is measuring 32cm so only 2 cm over the norm instead of 4! My glucose test results came back...everything is normal. One problem though, my blood work showed that I'm severely anemic. We'll have to work on that. They'll check my iron levels in a few more weeks to see if we've made any improvement.
August 4th
32 weeks...time is flying!!! I've been sick over the past. I was in the ER for heart irregularity on July 27th. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and sent me home saying I was a little dehydrated and had a mild UTI...pft! The problem got worse in the days following my ER visit so my GP ordered a 24 hour heart monitor, which I got today. It itches like crazy and I can't wait to rip it off in the morning! Wouldn't it figure though that now that I have this darn thing on, my heart isn't doing what it had been doing when it was at its worst!
Baby's heart rate is back up to the 150 range. While I was sick baby's HR was in the low 140's so I'm really glad it has come back up. Belly is measuring 33cm today. I had to see a different doctor today as my regular OB was on vacation. I took the opportunity to talk to her about a few things regarding labor and delivery. She let me know that I'd be filling out my labor wish list soon...very excited about that! I don't want a repeat performance of my labor with my son!
*************************************
August 21st
34 week check-up. Baby is sounding great! HR is 156...belly is measuring 36cm. She told me that I was 'following my pattern' for growth and estimates my baby will be 8 to 8 1/2 lbs to which I added...probably 9 and she said, yeah, maybe! I just grow them big, what can I say! We discussed the trouble I had been having with my heart and speculate that perhaps it might have been a virus since all symptoms have completely gone away. I just hope that no harm was done do the baby because of the whole ordeal. Next appt in 2 more weeks when I get to do the oh so pleasant swab test, du, du, dunnnnnn!! I only have 5 more appointments scheduled for this pregnancy. It doesn't seem possible that it's coming to an end so soon! I hope I can pull everything together to be ready for her...oh, and picking a name would be nice too!
Yeah i am lucky to be able to get a 4D ultrasound.. My hubby is good to me lol.. it's costing us a fortune at a private gallery. We are having to travel almost 3 hours to the studio as we live in the country. Theres nothing like it around us.. they are rare to find!! But me and my fiance think its sooo worth it.. we cant wait!!
95 days left. YAY!
Wow, that's pretty sad even for back then that your parents didn't encourage you to to to college. I was always pushed, and my sister chose to marry right out of grade 12, but our parents weren't happy about it.
I hope our kids can go to college, and I fully expect the older 3 to go. Jess doesn't seem very good at school, so not sure what her fate will be, but she's only in year 6 right now, so there's time to worry about that. Yeah, it's about giving them options.
Anyway, hope you have a good day. Our Winter holidays start today - the kids get 2 weeks off school.
Hi there! I just went to visit your page... your kids are adorable!! Bella will be my daughter's middle name after my beloved grandmother. Yeah, it does seem to be going faster than I thought it would, but mostly cause I have so much to do before she gets here and I can't seem to get anything done LOL!! Someone in there comments said your doc hinted you were too old for another one... good thing I didn't have him/her for my doc... I'll be turning 41 right around the time she's due (your due date is my birthday). Thanks for the compliments re:henna tattoo. It took about 45 minutes and lasted about 2-3 weeks. It was fun, my bf said that was the defining moment that he believed I was indeed crazy :) Hope all goes well for you and yours... keep in touch! Colleen
Thank you. The doc finally called back, im going in for blood work and tests today.
Well, I've spent 8 years studying at uni altogether, and have 3 degrees, but still am a stay-home mom. An education is good for keeping options open for kids, though, hey.
Funny how what we want or expect for our kids is not necessarily like our own lives though. My husband and I got married less than 3 months after the first time we ever met - I'd have a fit if one of my kids did that!! But it worked for us! Happily married after 18 years.
judi - Thursday, 26 June
Ha, yeah, well you're only 36 and your kiddies are younger than mine. Jason's 17 in a few weeks, and has been dating girls for a while now. I want him to graduate high school, go to university for a few years, and get a decent job, but say 4 or 5 years from now (when this baby is ready to start school) he might be thinking about children of his own - that is, grandchildren for me!!
mommy3(2b) - Thursday, 26 June
your doctor is so insensitive to imply that your too old to have more children! I'm glad to hear that you are feeling well. I am feeling well too just emotionally worn down from the hormones this time, i was given a low dosage of an anti anxiety med from my obgyn but am seeing if i can get through without taking it. It is harder as you get older with other children and responsibilities. It will be wonderful to welcome our new baby so i am just looking toward September. Tonight I am going out to dinner with my husband, my mother offered to babysit so I am happy to be getting out and getting a break from the kids/house, etc..!! I'm sure you can relate! keep in touch :)
brandyg - Wednesday, 25 June
They dont know exactly whats causing it. My doctor wont return my calls. I left a few messages yesterday and today. Im getting frustrated! I cant sleep im in so much pain. I have a 1 yr old, and I dont have anyone to help. Its hard to be on bed-rest and still take care of him. Anytime I move around the pain gets worse, and if im on my feet for a little while I start having contractions...I have no clue whats wrong.
mamacakes - Wednesday, 25 June
it was pretty bad for me! LOL My son was 10lbs 2oz. I had an apeeziotomy* and still tore all the way to my but hole..LOL(sorry TMI)...LOL..Dr. told me i had more stitches then a football and i couldnt walk for 2 weeks..LOL...im hoping this guy is a bit smaller, but i doubt it..LOL
brandyg - Wednesday, 25 June
Thanks, I went Into the OB unit at the hospital and they kept me over-night. Its not a bladder infection. I've been trying to get ahold of my doctor to see what I can do for the pain....and not being able to sleep...
Reeksy - Wednesday, 25 June
Not yet. Next week but instead of just the 1 hr test because of my past the dr is getting me to go straight to the long one. Bummer. It is very boring because you have to stay sitting and calm. You can't even go for a walk or anything.
youngmummy2be - Wednesday, 25 June
yeh 10 pound is big i guess.. but my mum had big babies aswell.. so it doesnt sound so big to me hehe.. they are assuming by my dates its a big bub and they give an estimated weight through measurements in the ultrasound so yeh.. i am going to have a 4D ultrasound so i guess i will see for myself soon hehehe
bocamom - Wednesday, 25 June
Mom and sis are fighting over where to have the shower. My sister wants to do what I would like but my mom is fighting her on it and wants to have it in her back yard in the dead of summer in florida, its so hot. And now my dad is mad at me too for not wanting to do it my moms way. I would rather just do it myself!
mamacakes - Wednesday, 25 June
I agree with you totally! The only thing i dread is giving birth to the big ones...lol..
mommy3(2b) - Tuesday, 24 June
Hi there, i'm also 36 and expecting a girl in Sept. it will be my third child. i have a daughter 8 and a son who is 5. your family is beautiful. hope you're feeling well. I know it's tiring when you have other kids to take care of! have you thought of a name yet? i am still thinking! I haven't really decided yet.
ashawee08 - Tuesday, 24 June
lol!! yeah me too.. i find myself drifting off when i'm watching tv or just sitting around!! lol!
agonzales - Tuesday, 24 June
Thank you! Ya my girls were small. We all thought the second one would be a little bigger since my belly was big lol but nope. My belly is big with this one too but not sure yet what he'll be. I just hope he isnt no 9 or 10 pounder lol.
mommyleek - Tuesday, 24 June
I noticed your little boys name is Ryan. If you don't mind me asking, what is his middle name? We are considering Ryan, but can't come up with a good middle name to go with it - we already used family names from both sides on our first 2 boys. Thanks!
rachel12401 - Tuesday, 24 June
wow that sounds like fun... i dont think i could deal with cloth diapers they just seem so messy... it doesnt sound like u have been having much fun either with the bladder infection... im starting to feel a little better but still sick my kids always keep me busy sick or not lol part of being a mom i suppose never a day off... i dont think the kids really care bout the baby coming they do like to feel him kick me constantly... my baby boy moves 24/7 i swear he never sleeps... i think i really pissed my hubbie off tonight woops he was cooking dinner and i was getting onto the boys and i told him to shut up and dont correct me then told him he is making me move to ky and i dont want to but in all reality i know we need too... guess being sick and all the hormones im bitchy... well hope ur having a better night... ttyl...
