The Story Begins HERE.....

(see blogs for entries of this wonderful journey)
...My husband and I have known eachother since we were children. After 2 decades, in Jan of 2005 we became reacquainted. He still admired about me after so long and eventually I started to feel the same. We married in April of 06'.

We began trying TTC after our honeymoon in Jamaica. We miscarried with our first. in May of 2007. We continued to ttc, thereafter but to no avail until this March, we were happy to find out we have been blessed yet again....

This little one is changing gears and he keeps on Driving!!!

You are very welcome. Did you find the video I was talking about? It's really good. I enjoyed it and it made me really want to try to do this natural. I wish I could do it at home though. That would of been great.

Please keep me posted throughout your pregnancy and especially labor and delivery. I would love to hear your experience if you do home birth.

Also look for that video. I can't find the link. If I do I'll send it to you. "The Business of Being Born"

Thanks for your kind reply. I suppose if a scan shows that all is well, and you get an attendant you can trust, a home and/or water birth really would be awesome.

I'm way too high risk with this one, though. All is well so far, but at my age and with my history (2 premmies and one corded) I don't think it's an option. I have managed all but one (emergency c-section) without pain relief, but it wasn't so much a matter of being brave as it was afraid of the meds hurting the baby!

Good luck to you and yours, and hope all goes perfectly. I love your pics by the way, especially this profile one. You're such a beautiful couple !!

Just seen your post about water birth. Definitely watch the documentary- 'The Business of Being Born' it changed my view about home water birth rather then hospital birth completely. It's out on DVD, so definitely get it!

I was thinking about a water birth and just reading your page has helped me decide that it's something i would love to do, birth is suppouse to be a private time and all those people coming in and out with no compassion make me think i'd rather be at home..so try it

I am intending on doing a water birth. I hear it is a much better transition for the mom and baby.

Hello! I have had my last three children at home and I would not have it any other way. My first two were born in the hospital with all the "traditional" things that happen there. I had pitocin, episiotomy, vacuum suction of my firstborn (totally unnecessary now that i look back on it) Iv's, bp cuff on your arm all the time, electronic fetal monitoring (which left sores on my bellie from the gel they use for it. It sat there for quite awhile and was VERY uncomfortable) and on and on.
In contrast, my homebirths were WONDERFUL. Yes, I did have several things go "wrong". That's always the first thing people ask. "What would you do if anything went wrong???!!" Well, my first home birth the baby was 21 days overdue (that wasn't fun, but better than getting induced) and his cord was around his neck making his heart rate go down. The midwives knew exactly what to do and he was born healthy and with good apgar scores.
My second homebirth was the best. I did have a "complication" with him too though. My water broke and I didn't go into labor for over 48 hours. I would have been induced for sure at the hospital. I was just given strict instructions as to what I could and couldn't do. They didn't check me until he was almost crowning. His was a very short labor. 5 hours total with about 10 minutes pushing. I was up and bouncing around in no time at all.
My third homebirth also had a "complication". I was 21 days overdue AGAIN! This time, there was meconium in the water, one of the reasons they will induce if you're two weeks overdue. The midwife, again, knew exactly what to do and he was just fine. When his head was birthed, she had me stop pushing until she suctioned him out very well so none of the fluid was in his mouth or throat. His chest was still compressed inside me so none of it got into his lungs. After she did that, he came right out and pinked up right away. He never got any infections and did fine. Those were the complications that we dealt with. On the other side of it, I had total peace and comfort in my own home. The only activity that was around me was what I wanted, not people wandering to and fro and poking and prodding me all the time. i usually stay in the bathtub until I'm about ready to push. I have a girlfriend who has had two water births at home and loves them even more. I have wanted to do that, but to buy or rent the special birthing tub has always been a little out of our price range. I have to settle for the bathtub, which is still good. The warm water on my bottom and legs really helps me relax.

A wonderful book that talks about all this and really gives great information on both subjects is called
Gentle Birth Choices: A guide to making informed decisions about: Birthing Centers, Birth Attendants, Water Birth, Home Birth, Hospital Birth. Written by Barbara harper, R.N. Check it out. It's great.
Blessings to you,
Dena

I'm from week 40 and am planning a homebirth with a midwife. We have a labour pool that we've purchased (la Bassine) and will definitely use for the labour for comfort and pain relief. We might deliver in it... it just depends on what position/room is most comfortable for delivering.

Not sure how much reading you've already done on homebirth and waterbirth, but waterbirth's are much more gentler for risk of tearing, and it's much easier on the mom to maintain good positioning during labour. Good luck with your decision and enjoy your pregnancy.

Yep, I am planning on a waterbirth at a waterbirth center in my town. I'm really looking forward to it. A friend of mine had her baby there a few months ago and she loved it!

raynbowmami - Monday, 9 June
Suggestion on home water birth. Check out The Business of Being Born. It's a video that I think will help you tremendously. Good luck and congrats.

I had a homebirth with my son a year ago!! It was wonderful!! Wouldn't want to have it any other way! If I had him in the hospital he would have been c-section for sure! It was great to be surrounded by family the whole time and get to do whatever I wanted. I wasn't scared at all like I know I would have been in the hospital.

I'm from week 37 and my second one was born in a birthing center (which really was just a house, but not mine) and it was wonderful. I was home 4 hrs after the birth. This time around, I am having my little girl in my own home. We are so excited! It so much easier to relax in your own environment and then you don't have to worry about packing stuff or coming home from the hospital. All your recovery is in your own home. Doesn't get much better than that.

Funny story for you... I had a home birth with my daughter.,. probably not the kind you are looking for... My water broke, she crowned and was born in 2 minutes.. Her dad delivered her... It was scary, but amazing...

I know this isn't what you really meant, but it is funny..., She loves to tell the story.

I know a couple of girls that have had home/water births and they can do nothing but rave about the experience.

Godd luck with your little one...

Hey I read your message on 12week. I would love to do a home birth, but I live in a trailer now and hopefully will beout by the time I have my baby. So, I have thought about it. I am mainly thinking about doing the water birth. They say that it is very safe and makes your labor go smoother. I have heard that if you do not labor and give birht in the water it is good to at least labor in the water. I will let you know what else I find out. It is fun to research abou it. I haev watched a lot of shows on it. I am adiicted to the discovery channel. Let me know wha toyu decide. Good luck.

I gave birth to my fist child in a birthing center. I did a water birth and it was amazing. I'm planning to do it the same way with this one. I know a lot of people who have had homebirths though, and they all had good experiences.

I'm having a water birth at the hospital. I wanted a home birth but the home birth midwife here recommended that i go to my current midwife and have the water birth in the hospital since it's my first baby.. we're really excited about it!

Cher1108 - Monday, 9 June
I thought about doing a water birth (with midwife) in a birthing center. Since this is my first baby I want to be safe and know there is a doctor and medical equipment extremely close if something happens. (I'm not a high risk pregnancy) If all goes well this time and with my next child, if I'm not high risk I might try the water birth.
