Hello Everyone. My name is Alicia and my hubby's name is Thomas (Tom). We have been together for 5 years. We got married on August 26, 2007 with a private ceremony amongst family...had a rather large reception to celebrate our marriage with both of our families and friends on October 20, 2007 (conceived that night, lol...and we were trying to), went on our honeymoon to Aruba in November of 07 (found out I was pregnant) then we bought our home in Febuary of 08...moved to another state into our new home in April of 08...then our little miracle decided to arrive also in April, 3 months early! This is our first baby and it has been quite the journey to say the least; I don't think any other year in our lives will ever compare to this year's events...

I love this site...don't know what I would have done without the love and support from each and everyone of you. <3

BIRTH STORY...SUMMARIZED....

Hello Everyone. I have not been on this site for about a week now because I have had my baby 13 weeks early. Anelise Marie was born at 12:57am on April 17, 2008, weighing only 2 lbs 5 oz. My due date was July 15th. I was in the hospital sunday April 13th til sunday April 20th and it was a very scary time for me. The Drs gave me all kinds of drugs...terbutaline, Mag sulfate (almost killed me) procardia, and indicine, to try and stall her arrival, but she had other plans. They needed to try and keep her in me as long as possilbe and at first I was placed on complete bed rest in the hospital....but bed rest or not, drugs or no drugs...she was coming. The cocktail of drugs they gave me almost put me into cardiac arrest so at that point they had to take me off and just let nature take it's course. We were buying time and every hour was important. They gave me steroid injections because they would help her lungs develop if she were to come. The steroids take about 24-48 hours to be beneficial for the premature baby's lungs, and that is what I got....24 hours...not 3 months on bed rest.

Continued..... So...with out getting into too much detail, I will give the shorter version of the story. The first night when I went into the hospital on Sunday...it was after work late at night. I was having BH contractions like before but this time my lower back was hurting me so bad. I called my ob and he told me to go straight to the ER. I woke up my husband and we were off. They hooked me up to monitors...and what do you know...I am having contractions every 5 minutes!!!! I guess I have a huge tolerance for pain to be able to stand them for 9 hours. In any case...they started me on IV's, gave me shots to stop contractions....about 3 of them over the course of the night, into the morning. Things seemed to calm down, so they sent me home, knowing I had an US app on monday (3 hours later). At my US app, they saw that my membranes were funneling into my cervix and i was 60% effaced and one centimeter dilated!!!! My dr sent me back to the hospital where I started my long and painfully scary journey. The drugs they gave me seemed to stop the contractions, but they were killing me in the process. My BP was 170/100, my HR was 160 bpm.....and I could not breathe....it was the worst I felt in my life! They had to do EKG's, chest xrays, and cat scans to make sure I was not going to have a pulmonary embolism. In any case...they decided to stop the drugs. Contractions started right back up...and very regular. It's now day 3 and I have not slept or eaten anything....I'm tired, scared, and so sick. 6:30 am on the 16th I go into full blown labor!!!! After 19 hours, I give birth vaginally to my little girl Anelise on the 17th (my mother's b-day). She was a fighter the whole time through my labor and I was so happy that I did not require a c section. Labor makes small babies stronger. In any case...she will be in the NICU for 10-12 weeks and it will be a very long and difficult journey with many setbacks to endure. We are praying for the best. Right now she is on C-PAP, iv's and in an incubator. I have been pumping so she gets my breast milk which they feed through a tube into her belly. I was fortunate that my milk let down happened only 2 days after her birth. My husband and I are home as of today, but we have 24 hour access to the NICU to visit her. I ask you all for prayers. I was totally not ready for her...we had nothing ready as we thought we had 3 months left! Ladies...if you ever question anything that's strange with your contractions or how you feel...please check it out. I waited too long I think, as I don't like to complain about things. I have fibroids that have caused me pain (possibly put me into pre-term labor) since I got pregnant so i deal with the pain. This time was different. A part of me believes that no matter what, she was coming...as that is what she did. It's bitter sweet that she was born on my mother's b-day, but I was really hoping for my husband's b-day which was when she was due. If anyone knows of anyone who can help us with any info on premature babies please let me know. I guess I have to start posting on a different page. I miss her in my belly, and I feel sad because I missed a whole part of my first pregnancy.:( We remain positive and pray that she will be okay and start to thrive. I can't even hold her yet.:( Alrighty ladies...take care...and don't ever second guess anything!!!!

Oh, and some final thoughts....I will continue posting on this site and continue on the path that I would be at if I were still pregnant, so this way I can follow all of you til the end. I will also give you updates on Anelise as she grows and matures. Hopefully, when all of you are giving birth, I will be taking her home. It's so hard knowing she is here, but I can't be with her nor can I take care of her at this time. I know once I have her in my arms...I will never let her go.

I am enjoying Morgan alot, cant really complain as he sleeps 4 to 5 hour blocks at night. he cat naps during the day, with one big sleep in the middle somewhere. we have experienced the few hours of unsettled time late in the arvo to early evening. That has only happen twice though, so can really complain.
I am so please the Anelise is doing well I have been watching your page for months

hello boopy, How do you tell if you are a Bb or bb etc? My FIL has blue eyes & MIL had green, my mother is hazel & father is green. Morgan's eyes appear to be getting darker, really dark blue. 12 months is a long time to have to wait lol.. I can believe Anelise is nearly 4 months old, we were due on the same day. So really she is only 4 or 5 weeks old.. How is she doing?

jenniferh - Thursday, 14 August

Hey! I am in PA too, but central PA. I had Michael at Hershey Medical Center. I will be driving to West Chester University on Wednesdays...Somewhere out near you!

We want another two hopefully, I would like 3 more but I would have to rely on twins to get that! I come from a very large family and want my kids to have a few siblings. We think we'll try around the end of this school year. I want to finish my master's and will be done with that by May. It was hard to make that drive pregnant.

Now that I had my fibroids removed I will only be a little high risk. But like you said I know all of the Penn State doctors at Hershey and I think they are so awesome. I know they will take good care of me.

Hopefully Anelise will start sleeping later into the morning, and you won't need a nap. I am hoping Michael will start making it regularly from 8 pm to 6 am soon. He has made it until 4 am a few times. And lat night needed to be fed at 2 ad slept til 6:30. It is getting better!!

Haha, aren't we all hoping for that! How's your little girl doing? Does she ever get constipated? I tried to take Brody off Similac Alimentum (He's colic, so he had to use that with his belly n everything) And it got him all constipated! Needless to say i went right back to the Alimentium! Just was wondering what you do to help your little one if she's been consipated?

I worry about the management of baby and work too. Plus I will take a grad class one night a week at a university that is 2 hours away from here. So every Wed. will be teach all day, drive 2 hours, 3 hours of class, drive two hours home. I am dreading it, but must finish before my next pregnancy.
It is so lucky that you have family watching her. They will take good care of her and not be freaked out by the monitor. My mom is going to watch Michael which is awesome.

My first official day is next Wednesday, but I have been going regularly in the mornings this past week to get my classroom ready.

What do you do? I imagine it will be tough to have Anelise on a schedule that matches yours so you can get a full night of sleep, but my older sis was a nurse who worked 3-11 when her first son was an infant. Do you have a set bedtime for her yet? Michael goes down at 8 every night.

BabyBennett - Monday, 11 August
Anna can't resist the power of the swing... she falls asleep EVERY time! As for the binkie - that's where her's usually is too. :) She desperately wants it, but can't hold it in and cries hysterically when she loses it! Anelise is a doll!

He is up to 10 lbs, 8 oz. You will be getting real smiles soon, I think Michael did it around 6 weeks adjusted, but even then it was rare. He definitely did the smiles in his sleep first. Now he smiles a lot and actually giggles. It has been about 3 weeks that he loves his play gym. Before that I think he was annoyed at stuff hanging in his face. I love this website, but some people who have a 6 week old full term baby complain that they are still getting up once a night. My baby has been home for 3 months and it usually still up twice a night! It's nice to have a long newborn phase in some ways, but not others!! I am going back to work soon. Are you going back?

amandag7 - Monday, 11 August
YES!! He was a little over 3 weeks early and was 7lb. 5 oz!! HUGE!!! Haha. It's great that she will catch up that early. I honestly believe she will sooner since she was so fast to progress with her health when she was born. I'll definitely keep her in my prayers. I hope the doctor's appointment went well. I just put up a picture of Ethan in a onesie with a tie on it (too cute!) This is as fancy as he can get right now!!! Haha. Hope all is well!

nmck - Sunday, 10 August
I know what you mean. I started a baby book for Michael and friends told me to write down what age he does everything. I am not going to because it doesn't make any sense. He rolled from tummy to back the first time at 2 weeks adjusted, or 12 weeks....neither sounds right! They will be floating and hovering around this developmental area that only makes sense to us! But, since Michael is about a month ahead of Anelise in adjusted age, I will tell you the past month has been a big one! He seems like he finally woke up from the extended newborn phase preemies have. He is loving his bouncy chair and his little play gym now. He still hates his swing though. Are you starting to notice the same thing? I still worry about overstimulation too.

am currently using Avent but I use the nipple meant for a 3 month old. That way, she seems to get her feed and doesnt get tired by the time she takes in half her regular quantity. Bought the 3 month nipples this weekend. Life has been a lot more peaceful since.

Howz Analise doing? and How are you doing? Been out of touch for a few days. So what the doc tell about her monitor. When di you take it off or have you already?

Much love and prayers as always.

Thanks, that's my little niece and she thinks Christopher is her baby!

I'm sure having the alarm there is like a security blanket. But I know she will be just fine without it. Has she had any alarms go off recently? No, I haven't had any scares with him. I must admit when he first came home I couldn't sleep much because I was so use to having him hooked up to monitors. But his dr. told me to keep in mind that he didn't have any alarms go off in weeks before he came home so that gave me ease. You will get use to it and she will be fine. You guys are always in my prayers!!
