Hello Everyone. My name is Alicia and my hubby's name is Thomas (Tom). We have been together for 5 years. We got married on August 26, 2007...had our big reception on October 20, 2007 (conceived that night, lol...and we were trying to), went on our honeymoon to Aruba in November of 07 (found out I was pregnant) then we bought our home in Febuary of 08...moved to another state into our new home in April of 08...then our little miracle decided to arrive also in April, 3 months early! This is our first baby and it has been quite the journey to say the least; I don't think any other year in our lives will ever compare to this year's events...

I love this site...don't know what I would have done without the love and support from each and everyone of you. <3

BIRTH STORY...SUMMARIZED....

Hello Everyone. I have not been on this site for about a week now because I have had my baby 13 weeks early. Anelise Marie was born at 12:57am on April 17, 2008, weighing only 2 lbs 5 oz. My due date was July 15th. I was in the hospital sunday April 13th til sunday April 20th and it was a very scary time for me. The Drs gave me all kinds of drugs...terbutaline, Mag sulfate (almost killed me) procardia, and indicine, to try and stall her arrival, but she had other plans. They needed to try and keep her in me as long as possilbe and at first I was placed on complete bed rest in the hospital....but bed rest or not, drugs or no drugs...she was coming. The cocktail of drugs they gave me almost put me into cardiac arrest so at that point they had to take me off and just let nature take it's course. We were buying time and every hour was important. They gave me steroid injections because they would help her lungs develop if she were to come. The steroids take about 24-48 hours to be beneficial for the premature baby's lungs, and that is what I got....24 hours...not 3 months on bed rest.

Continued..... So...with out getting into too much detail, I will give the shorter version of the story. The first night when I went into the hospital on Sunday...it was after work late at night. I was having BH contractions like before but this time my lower back was hurting me so bad. I called my ob and he told me to go straight to the ER. I woke up my husband and we were off. They hooked me up to monitors...and what do you know...I am having contractions every 5 minutes!!!! I guess I have a huge tolerance for pain to be able to stand them for 9 hours. In any case...they started me on IV's, gave me shots to stop contractions....about 3 of them over the course of the night, into the morning. Things seemed to calm down, so they sent me home, knowing I had an US app on monday (3 hours later). At my US app, they saw that my membranes were funneling into my cervix and i was 60% effaced and one centimeter dilated!!!! My dr sent me back to the hospital where I started my long and painfully scary journey. The drugs they gave me seemed to stop the contractions, but they were killing me in the process. My BP was 170/100, my HR was 160 bpm.....and I could not breathe....it was the worst I felt in my life! They had to do EKG's, chest xrays, and cat scans to make sure I was not going to have a pulmonary embolism. In any case...they decided to stop the drugs. Contractions started right back up...and very regular. It's now day 3 and I have not slept or eaten anything....I'm tired, scared, and so sick. 6:30 am on the 16th I go into full blown labor!!!! After 19 hours, I give birth vaginally to my little girl Anelise on the 17th (my mother's b-day). She was a fighter the whole time through my labor and I was so happy that I did not require a c section. Labor makes small babies stronger. In any case...she will be in the NICU for 10-12 weeks and it will be a very long and difficult journey with many setbacks to endure. We are praying for the best. Right now she is on C-PAP, iv's and in an incubator. I have been pumping so she gets my breast milk which they feed through a tube into her belly. I was fortunate that my milk let down happened only 2 days after her birth. My husband and I are home as of today, but we have 24 hour access to the NICU to visit her. I ask you all for prayers. I was totally not ready for her...we had nothing ready as we thought we had 3 months left! Ladies...if you ever question anything that's strange with your contractions or how you feel...please check it out. I waited too long I think, as I don't like to complain about things. I have fibroids that have caused me pain (possibly put me into pre-term labor) since I got pregnant so i deal with the pain. This time was different. A part of me believes that no matter what, she was coming...as that is what she did. It's bitter sweet that she was born on my mother's b-day, but I was really hoping for my husband's b-day which was when she was due. If anyone knows of anyone who can help us with any info on premature babies please let me know. I guess I have to start posting on a different page. I miss her in my belly, and I feel sad because I missed a whole part of my first pregnancy.:( We remain positive and pray that she will be okay and start to thrive. I can't even hold her yet.:( Alrighty ladies...take care...and don't ever second guess anything!!!!

Oh, and some final thoughts....I will continue posting on this site and continue on the path that I would be at if I were still pregnant, so this way I can follow all of you til the end. I will also give you updates on Anelise as she grows and matures. Hopefully, when all of you are giving birth, I will be taking her home. It's so hard knowing she is here, but I can't be with her nor can I take care of her at this time. I know once I have her in my arms...I will never let her go.

I'm glad to here your little one is doing great. Is the enfacare formula expensive? Where do you buy it from? Chris Jr. is on that right now, but they will be changing him to enfamil before he comes home. He is now 5lbs and taking all his feeds by bottle!!! He is expected to come home over the weekend. I can't wait! He's off all meds except for vitamins. My baby had a hole in his heart, but we had it closed when he was 3 wks old since it was kind of large. He healed great from it, Thank God! How did here cardiologist appt. go?

Of course. I'm so glad she's doing well. My husband and I have been keeping up with your updates and we're both honestly so glad that she made it home earlier than expected and she's healthy! I can only imagine how happy you are. I'm feeling tired and heavy! Contracting for a week now and I'm just ready for him to be here already!

am very sure about the breast feeding thing. all women go through this. even one's that suckle from the start without an issue. they get to a stage when they think they are drying up. but thats not the case. keep Analise at your breast. Even when it feels like work and not just nutrition. soon your body and your breasts will come up with all the milk she needs.

also bear in mind that feeding from the bottle is a lot less work for Analise than feeding from your breast is. she gets milk out of a botle with much less effort than she does with your breasts. so she is gonna want to give up a lot sooner with your breasts. dont give her that option if you will. use formula sparingly. otherwise even if she wil suckle for only 5 mins and cry out for hunger in less than half an hour, put her back to your breasts. she will learn to suckle.

no breast pump. no matter how state of the art, or expensive, can mimic a baby's suckle to perfection. baby's are human beings and nothing can mimic their suckle perfecly. only their mouths can. so keep at it, and before you know it, you will be meeting all her nutritional rquirements with just breast milk.

much love and prayers for the strength you need and for the patience she needs. :)

thanks so much for the adice on the fluid!! it deff made me feel a little better!! Im glad to see your daughter is doing good. She deff won the hearts of many on here!

sugarcubesandcottoncandy - Tuesday, 24 June
glad to hear you are both doing great. Dont throw the towel in on breast feeding her yet. Soon her sucking instincts will be strong enough and even if you dont have too much milk to start with and have to use formula to supplement her nutritional needs, keep her ast your breasts and soon enough, you will be making enough milk to feed her. many of my friends thought they were running dry in the first few months only to be told by the doc to keep at it. they found the situation corrected itself in time. the more the demand, the better will be your supply. so keep at it. i know it can be hard work, trying to double up as your daughter's binkie. but sooner than you would imagine, you will have enough milk to meet all her needs without the supplement.

luck to you and Analise.

Thanks. He is very distant and chooses not to be around me throughout the day because three days ago I was very moody. I was upset because the doctor stopped my labor after he said he wouldn't. Then to top things off, my computer crashes and I have all my info for my history final due sunday on thee computer and I have no way of fixing it right now.I hate not knowing when I will go into labor after the other night of being in labor. It would have been perfect if he would have been born because all my assignments would have been out of the way except for the final. I have to send my sister all the info, I have to research all over again and start over again with my 1750 word paper. I would do it on my MIL computer, but she doesn't have microsoft word office and we can't use anything else for class. I have tried to download it, but i guess its not compatible. so I am stressed over all this. Then my husband takes the car and he has lost his cell phone so I sit here and wait and wonder what to do if I go into labor. I guess I just needed to let it out, sorry this is so long. this is the 4th day I have sat here without a car and he also takes my youngest son with him and I hate that, I hate not seeing him all day. It mnakes me feel awful that he doesn't want to be around me and he doesn't talk to me when he is here, so I just cry all day long that my face hurts in the morning from crying so much. Thanks for listening.

I was in labor contracting every 2-3 minutes on the night of the 18th but the doctor stopped them once again. I just had an appt and he said to drink castor oil so he can deliver, but i told him no thankns. Sorry about the spelling, thisa is my MIL computer, mine crcashed, I am not used to thihs keyboard. Anyway I am contracting as we speak so I hope to have him soon. I can't wait, even though my husband and I are having a bit of a rough hpatch. I am excited, but then again I am not. I have been crying non stop for three days now and hope thihngs settle around here.

oh i would hope not. I still have the cerclage in place and going into labor with the cerclage in place will increase my chance of having a cerveical laceration. :) will remember to use the good old comdom just to keep the prostaglandin away. :)

howz Analise coming along? and how are you coming along? has she started breastfeeding yet?
