Christopher Kekoa ka 'Ahu 'ula-O-Kalani nui Mehameha Mitchell was born on Sunday November 4th at 1:27pm! He weighed 8lbs 11oz and was 20.5in long. He is my perfect little boy. It is so amazing I have never seen a more sweet little child then Kekoa. He never cries which I know will change but for the time being he is perfect. He sleeps about 22 hours a day which I know is insane. We have to set an alarm to wake him for night time feedings. Because he was born by c-section my milk is having problems coming in so right now we are having problems latching him and having to suppliment with formula and pumping. I feel like I pump all the time just for him to drain it. It is a good cause though. My sweet angel is well worth the cause.
4 months old!! I can't believe it is already spring time. My little boy is growing so fast. As for breastfeeding, we beat the odds. He is now only on breastmilk with two bottles a day at day care. It is such a wonderful feeling to accomplish this feat. It was just a weak sucker at the beginning and needed time to grow. And that he is doing. He is trying to sit up and stand! We are going to his check up on Friday but last time I weighed him he is was 15lbs and 27in long. WOW! My big boy. I love him to death. Oh and he is still the sweet little angel. Only cries when he is hungry, tired or hurting. We all just got over the flu and poor little guy tried his hardest to be happy during it. We survived.
8Months Old! Time is flying so fast. I'm on here everyday but I never have time to update my profile. It's usually jump on and off. HAHA! So let's see. What has been going on? Christopher Kekoa turns 8months on the 4th of July. He is cruising like a pro and starting to let go of the furniture. He has two teeth and cutting the third. He's still an angel. He loves everyone and brightens all our lives. Ok, so babies think but what do they think about? With Kekoa it's weird. You look into his eyes and it seems like there is much more going on then a lot of babies his age. It's awesome watching him figure things out. We have one smart cookie on our hands. He is now over 20lbs now and just moved to his big boy seat. We bought the Britax Boulevard. It's a beast but it is the safest on the market right now and I love it! As for our biggest challenge, it's no more! We are still breastfeeding and going strong! He is eating solids like a pro although he doesn't have a big belly yet. He's saving room for his teen years. I'm still working but I am paying down debt and hopefully a little while after we buy a house I can quit. YAY! That is my #1 goal. I want to be a stay at home Mommy.....
This is Joe and I on our wedding day and our wedding party! The center lady in red was 8months pregnant with my nephew. The other two munchkins are mine three year old niece and nephew. How cute!
He is 7cm (2.8in.) long and has a heart beat of 168. And this is my three month belly!! Baby Mitchell at 11.5 weeksy shot.
Above are two of my 20week pictures. We are having a boy!! The photos are his profile and his little baby parts. Ahhh how cute! His weight is 13oz. and his heartbeat is 145bpm.

4D ultra sound at almost 29 weeks! I have so many pictures (60) it was so hard to choose ones to put up on the site but above is the first photo they took, before we woke him up. Next to it is a picture of him smiling after he woke up.

Thanks for your post. Can you tell me more about the oatmeal. I've been eating oatmeal everyday by making it in boiled milk. Can you tell me your method? And when do you pump before or after a feeding or instead of a feeding you pump it out? I've been pumping after feedings and I get about an oz from each breast. I really want to be able to feed my twins for a yr. Any help is appreciated.

Actually in a way my baby was planned. I did want to be pregnant by eighteen, i'm not so sure why though. But thank you so much anyways. I will deffiantly come to you for help and advice. Seeing as I'm still far from my due date.

so i read your post... and my daughter went through the same thing. telling her it hurt didnt phase her. we started flicking her in the mouth. it may sound kinda mean, but it really doesnt hurt much, its more of the shock that made her cry. she knocked it off quick! lol. good luck!

Hi Bri, would you mind sharing a little more of your BF problem experience with me? I took Beckett to see an occupational therapist this past Friday. According to her the suck probably isn't his problem so much as it's an endurance problem. She says it's not uncommon at all (especially in white males) and we just need to take a step back so that we can take 2 steps forward. It all worries me immensely, but all I can do right now is keep moving forward and hope for the best. How long did it used to take Kekoa to BF in the beginning? It takes Beckett and hour often times and it's because it just wears him out =( So we are bottle feeding EPM except 3 x's a day for 10 min each. I hate it so much because as frustrating as it was to feed for an hour at a time I miss BF'ing him so much. How long did you have to work with Kekoa before you moved forward with exclusively BF? I know you had some difficulties and I guess I'm just looking for some inspiration.

So, during the growth spurts, is it okay to give a little formula? It's not like I'm skipping a nursing session, so my supply should still be building, right? I just don't understand the whole supply thing. I've began to pump and store for when I return to work, and I only pump 3 oz at a time. Is that normal for a 5 week old? It seems when she's nursing she gets more than that.

Thanks for the encouragement...I know it's all worth it in the end...It's been tough for us this past week as my milk supply dropped last week, but I've been focusing on drinking my mother's milk tea and eating more healthy this week and it's working :) I hope to breast feed until 12 months, I feel blessed we've made it this far, especially since I had to go back to work when he was 10 weeks.

Hi, I was reading about your breastfeeding issues on the forum and wow, they sound so much like my issues with my newborn son. Thank you for sharing, it gives me so much hope that we will work through this and be a breastfeeding success too. Currently he is 2.5 weeks old and down to using the bottle only 1 time per day and otherwise I am feeding with a nipple shield. I also rented a scale from the lactation consultant so I can be sure he is getting enough at feedings. I hope that some day soon we can phase out the nipple shield all-together and go strictly to breast. I've read some of your posts in the past, and it's nice to see someone who thinks that breastfeeding is as important as I do - I knew going in that there could be difficulties but I never knew just how strong my resolve to breastfeed would have to be to make it. While I know we aren't there yet, we have made improvement by leaps and bounds over the past week and a half. Thanks again for sharing.

An added measure that we've had to use was as soon as you firmly place him on his bottom with the scolding YOU get up and move away. If you are on one side of the couch get up and move to the other side, likewise if you are in the kitchen or where ever move away from him or if you are needing to be where you are move HIM away from you - this adds to the negative side of the experience for him and may speed things up too. You don't have to leave the room, you can stay within eye sight (I would recommend that so he doesn't feel he is being abandoned and thus loose focus of what just happened) and it will require more effort on his part to 'make up' and apologize - so to speak. If you would like, I'll take a look at my notes and see what we needed to do with the more persistant biters.. it has been a while since I have had to really deal with one. At the same time, at least you know when he commits he really does commit. :D

I saw your comment on biting. I broke my son of it easily (although every child is different). When he bites IMMEDIATLY yell OUCH! and jerk away. Say NO BITE, walk away and leave him crying for a minute to let it settle in that he hurt you. If he bites when you are holding him, immediatly yell ouch!, jerk away, sit him on the floor and walk away for a minute. The disapproval and momentary alienation of affection makes him sad/sorry want to please you and not bite. This worked for us, not sure if it will work for you, Jen

HI there, I read your post about your boy biting... in my experience (bbysitting, nanny, mom and daycare owner) there is a simple technique that does require a little 'tough love'; everytime he bites you immediatly sit him down firmly on his bottom, regardless of where he bit you, what was happening or where you are, and in a stern voice with a scowl you say his name then say "biting NO! Ow/hurts, biting NO" Children often do not hear or comprehend the first two words spoken to them, especially when they are being taken by suprise and/or interrupted. That is why you start with the child's name, then the action with what you are trying to say - biting-NO, the child will likely hear the NO, then hurt and again biting no. It rarely takes more than a day or two for the child, even at 9 mos, to connect the action to the reaction. Your boy will cry and you need to be sure that you stay consistant. When he gets up for some cuddles do it b/c you don't want him to feel shuned or abandoned but make sure you then show him the hurt area and say "biting hurts, ow." Show him a sad face and ask for a kiss for your owwie - this helps build compassion and remose for pain others are suffering. Make sure you follow through though each and every time whether it happens to you or someone else. Be firm but accepting of his need for reassurance after the swift discipline lesson. Do let me know how it goes for you if you decide to try out this technique. It has worked flawlessly in my several, several years of childrearing... goodluck!

bri...saw ur post about the biting...mine is not so much biting but i guess having too strong of a grip when shes nursing..so ive been sore for a while..then it donned on me to go back to using the lanolin cream i used in the very beginning, don't know why i didn't think of it earlier! it helped tons...like u i want to make it to around 18 months~!

Hi Bri! how do you do the oatmeal thing? you did say a cup of oatmeal..can it be any kind of oatmeal.. I know it can't be instant.. and a cup of water..let it sit for 7 hours..can it go longer.. let's say I do it for over night can it sit in the fridge or the counter top? and after it has sat do you have to add more water to heat it up? do you heat it up?lol I am full of questions.. please message me back with the recipe I want to save it for future use just in case.. Oh I tried the cookies and they work!

Also, when did Kekoa start solid foods? I was thinking maybe my supply slowing down was a sign that I should start more solids? Mayson is 4 months and has been on cereal for a month and a half now...the first 4 weeks he got it once a day, now he has cereal at both of his daytime feedings with his nanny.

Thanks Bri- I'm really praying that I will not have to supplement, but unfortunately I dont' have milk saved up in the freezer. Today I pumped at 10 and 2 and only got 7 oz. I was getting 6 oz per pump session so 12 oz. per day. It seems like my supply had dried up a bit the past week...is there anything I could be doing or eating that is causing it to slow down? i know you have been breastfeeding for what 9 or 10 months now, so I really appreciate your help
