PREGNANCY Q &A &more!

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but
pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word 'alimony' means anything to you.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

Due Date: March 1st - Today. Ask me if I've had my baby...go ahead, just ask....

Well I guess I should `update ` my page...although I must say, this would be the first time! Good to document these things right ie get out your frustrations! Well, I have been having `issues ` for past two months. Which, in the big scheme of things is better than issues for 9 months! Working full time in a male dominated work environment, becoming pregnant and having things keep me away from doing 100% is quite frustrating. Our CEO (who is also a woman) is expecting her third child. Her husband stays at home. S he basically works right up until labour, pops the kid out and is back at work one week later. I should have asked her if the week she is taking off is in actuality 5 business days or 7, LOL! In any event. I had planned on working until my final day, however my body rebelled and for the past 8 weeks has only allowed me to sleep for upto 4 hours at a stretch.

Whether bedtime is 8 p.m., I wake at 12.

Try at 10 p.m. I wake at 2.

Good practice for when baby is here...not so good for when I go to bed at 9, awake at 1 and stay awake as I am in at work by 6. So, via doctors orders, I finished work 4 days early. I must say it is quite the relief. But of course, the `baby deadline ` being March 1st and producing no such baby is really bringing me down!

Coincidence, perhaps, but for the last 5 days, I have been having MASSIVE back pains and contractions but the good news is now I can nap throughout the day :)

No `bloody show `,

No additional vaginal discharge,

Nothing that would indicate that my status is progressing.

What I HAVE been going through is major mood swings, limiting communication with the outside world, heartburn back with a vengance, nausea, crazy shooting pains up my left butt cheek (WHAT is THAT from???), vaginal distress (crazy pains shooting up there too), lack of sexual contact, the infuriating inability to sppon behind Jeff and cleaning house...organizing.

Our cleaner showed up yesterday and basically asked WHAT she could clean, as I had had a go at the house for the past 48 hours. Jeff has been prone to mood swings as well lately...we `ve had a few `talks ` but since leaving work, I have relaxed therefore he has relaxed. My doctors are quite pleased with how everything is progressing, (at least they are happy) however having had no internals done, no doctor scheduled U/S since 23 weeks, and being very particular (and yes, some would call me type A and say I am overly competitive), I am going CRAZY!!!!

I actually faked a reason to go to L&D yesterday. I was hoping beyond hope they would take pity on me, and do something to induce labour. The thought was also in my mind that I might be like Sirat and show up with back pains and find out I was 4 cm dilated. No such luck. The doctors are again `pleased ` with how everything is going.

I am slightly effaced, and not even the tiniest bit dilated.

WHAT is the deal with all these back pains and contractions then? It is actually quite heartbreaking...ok see, there I go, melodramatic and irrational. But dammit...enough is enough! Baby, you're in big trouble buster!!!

Tuesday, 4 Mar

Another day, another sleepless night. My life seems to be revolving around not being in labour, and not having work to distract me is causing me to be a wee bit more obsessive than typical.

The thing I hate is that I have no idea what labour feels like, although I have been told by many mothers that when it happens, there is no mistaking it. I wish it was like a switch either on or off, or like a thermometer, when you hit this temp you are done. The anxiety of waiting, wanting, wishing seems unbearable.

Always heving been a `list ` person, my latest list looks something like this (keeping in mind alot of these things I have completed at 3 a.m.):

Things to Do: March 2, 2008

Finish Income Taxes - check.

Research on DayCare/Homes - check.

Stock up freezer - check.

Pick up mail at Condo - check.

Buy DayTimer - check.

Take SUV in for service...

Have baby.....

I HATE not being able to check things off my list!!!

So I see my Doc today...have written down what I have been feeling, and what I want to know. For some bizarre reason, everytime I go there, I forget something! It's like taking an exam, and afterwards you slap the forehead with a "Oh yeah...."

Hope to get `the sweep ` done today. Have an acupuncture appointment as well. It `s funny, poking got me in this state in the first place, and now poking seems to be the only thing moving things forward again!

`I see skinny people `

I keep having these unbearable lower back pains every few minutes. I dont know what a contraction feels like but I think its back labor. Its not a constant pain like when my back usually hurts its only lasts for about a min or so and then goes away only to return again in the next few minutes. I really dont know what to think of them.

dawnybobs - Friday, 29 Feb
OMG... if the pain is in your back i would imagine they could be early contractions!!!!.... they are supposed to start off in that area!!!..... oh my this could be it for you!!

I feel like a new woman today had a much better nights sleep i dont even remember getting up to pee? I had my bedroom window open a little so think that made a difference??

My cat is totally back to her old self thankfully - she was so funny this morning i was sleeping with my arm dangling over the edge of the bed so she was getting a cheeky free scratch by rubbing her head against my hand/fingers (i have some temporary false nails on which where supposed to look nice against my bump at my non existant photo shoot)

the 1st song on my profile was used on the movie 50 first dates.. did you read my comment on why the song is so important to me?? - i have the 3 tracks that are on here as the background music on rudys 4d dvd!!...

keep me posted as i really think this could be the start of something for you (hey think of the money youll save if you have him today he'll only get a birthday every 4 years!!!) lol xx

Sterling - Friday, 29 Feb
Hello Karyn where you been all me life eh? I read on the forum yesterday that you have at last stopped working - I have found it very hard to relax and do nothing as I have never done 'nothing' before. Although my feet, ankles and lower legs look like they are about to explode along with my womb, I sinf it hard not to take a 2 hour walk or so everyday plus do the housework, dinner etc OH AREN'T I JUST THE SUPERWOMAN. Then I am awake with Martin at 6am and not able to get to sleep again so f*ck all the rest, my body will do what it wants I suppose. How do people manage to sit around and do nothing all day is beyond me. Funny looking to see how many days left until EDD (your tomorrow, mine the day after) if only eh. There's already a pre-induction appointment for 12 March if fatty doesn't show his face soon. I had to have a scan on Tuesday as the midwife at 38wks thought he was measuring way too high and big, turns out the poor little bugger's head is just not engaged and his little bum is sitting high (this one has a fat arse by the way - like Mother like son) and he is looking around the 8Ib 3oz stage then. Considering they put on 0.5Ibs per week now this one may end up around the 9Ib mark BUT WHATEVER - the bigger the better as long as I can squeeeze him outta what god gave me to squeeze him out of.....ouch. I cannot help but wake and feel slightly concerned about the lack of movements generally, which I know are perfectly normal, but still doesn't make me feel any better. I went to hospital in the early hours a few weeks ago as I hadn't felt him in ages and he was fine. Started moving around like crazy once I was all wired up. It's hard to shake that feeling off after you have had it. Tell me darling, how's it all going for you, you know I like to go on about myself ha ha ha xxxx

armarrie - Friday, 29 Feb
Im starting to think that it was a bloody show from the internal. But then again how come it took so long for the spotting to begin. I had the internal aroun 12:15 yesterday and there was no spotting until this morning when I went to use the bathroom. There was a small tiny bit of slime in the toilet but not a whole plug and then it stopped. The about 3 or 4 hours later there was another show and a small tiny tiny but of slime in the toilet. I dont know what to think. As long as I feel the baby moving around then Im not that worried. But I was at first cause thats how my miscarriage started so you can tell that I would be worried.

9mo - Friday, 29 Feb
The antenatal care in Canada must be similar to what we get here in Australia....we don't have internals - so don't know if I'm dilated. They also don't generally do ultrasounds after 20 weeks unless there is a problem - so I have no idea how much amniotic fluid I have, or what weight the baby is. All that they do at my week to week appointment is take my blood pressure, check bubs heartrate and measure the fundus. Other than that I'm just sitting around waiting for my water to break or contractions to start!!

dawnybobs - Thursday, 28 Feb
well you legs dont look like cottage cheese like mine lol.... you still look great!!

dawnybobs - Thursday, 28 Feb
aaah thanks for your lovely message!! wow though with your bedtime symptoms i really think you could be in the 5% of women who have their baby ON their due date!!! 5%!!!! yup they are the odds apparently!!.... i am in dilema mode i can either lay it on thick a my midwives on monday and demand they induce me if I go a day over OR wait and see if he comes on his own which is what ive wanted all along... but whats the point in not getting induced a day over but waiting another 10 days and still getting induced if he doesnt come??... at least when our little men are here we wont feel so sleep deprived as .... well we already are hey!!?? lol xx

dawnybobs - Thursday, 28 Feb
god... what are we like?? we are all so ready to have these babies arent we! Im glad youve stopped work - maybe thats why i have came down with cold though as maybe im like you and work has been keeping me going but now im finally chilling i get sick!! i am SUCH a wreck I forgot to say yesterday but when i walked donny to school in the morning i stood in tears in pain in the playground! I got a sharp pain in my inner thigh like rudy was pressing on a nerve or something ? anyway then a lovely mum asked me if i was ok and i burst into tears 'no i am in agony please wait here with me I'll be ok in a minute im sure'... the pain did pass and I was able to walk donny to class (he was then late) I was soooo hoping that was the baby coming but no!! i had a crap night sleep last night with my cold then me and the boys had our bump photo shoot this mornning but I had to call it a day realy early as i felt really rough! i had the boys in jeans and no tops so i wore the same we got a few shots in but then i came over all hot and sick feeling (like i needed the toilet) i went loo then came back and we tried to do a shot with me on my back but by the time she got the boys in their position i said 'Im sorry but ive got to stop this now' - I didnt even care if we got a goo photo or not I just thought i cant do this I am too sick and tired! I hope we did get a good shot but I doubt it (I view then next friday).. how lucky if nikki having maximo already!!! i am so jealous xx

So he wants me on bed rest :( But I don't feel any of that.. I just feel alot of cramps and I have to hold my lower belly everytime I get up from sitting or laying down until I walk off the pain... No nausea though :) How have you been feeling!?? I can't believe I'll be 40 weeks tomorrow!! OHHH and almost forgot... if I don't have the baby by next Wednesday, they'll induce me that evening!

Other than painless contractions and the occassional 'period pain' I'm not really experiencing much at all yet... I have a feeling I'll go over my due date.

noatay - Thursday, 28 Feb
I don't get contractions PERIOD! Waaah! I wanna start feeling some pain alredy. Only then will I feel that my lil man is finally ready to come out. I can't wait to find out what my dr says tomorrow. Well, enjoy your cramps and nausea. I'm sure it means you labor is soon to start. *sprinkles labor dust before leaving*

karinaM - Wednesday, 27 Feb
I also get the cramps and contactions at night they wake me up and when I'm awake they disapear, how weird???
last night I had to get up so fast from bed because I had such a bad cough that it made me vomit,I thought I was going to force the baby out....sorry tmi.
well good luck and labor dust!!!!

LesleyLDN - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hahaha, i know. It's not like we're not gonna have our babies. I think when you start hearing about others starting or having their wee ones already it just frustrates you but yes, we are all in the same boat really and i was just saying to Sterling that it's been good to have someone else experiancing the same things and being able to laugh and chat about it all. My neighbour is currently fully dilated and pushing - her partner just sent my husband a text, he's so excited!! Here's to a very close (we hope) labour for us all.

Nikki2212 - Wednesday, 27 Feb
I am sorry I haven't write but I been soooo tired =) I can't sleep! Its like my 1st time, I just can't stop looking at him!!! =)
I had those contractions as well. But they go away when you walk. I think that my labor was triggered after my last internal exam at the doc's office.
That was Monday at 2PM. At 6 my back was hurting like hell, but no contractions. At 8PM I was in a lot of pain so I timed them.. 3 mins appart! I called my doc who never called back! I took a shower and headed to the hospital.
When they received me I was 4 cm.
Contractions are sooo weid! Is a really bad cramping! But mine didn't go away by walking or changing position... But I didn't feel them much when I was in the birthing ball!!!! That was why I couldn't believe I was in labor.
I feel you are going to be in labor before the end of the week... =)
Gotta feed somebody - breastfeeding is hard!!! He latches a lot during the day!
I will post my birth story as soon as I get back home. And I will post pics =)
Take care hon. Remember that labor can just start right away w/o being effaced or dilated.
Good luck! I'll write back soon.

mommah - Wednesday, 27 Feb
I have had the cramps and sleepless nights. I also had a huge hormonal shift that made me feel quite depressed this past weekend (seems to have subsided now). I don't have much nausea, except when there's a lot of cramping and I'm lying down. Like you, if I move around it subsides. Starting to feel like a joke, like there isn't going to be a baby...
Last couple of days I am trying to spend time doing things that really relax both body and mind. I know if there's any tension that can sometimes delay labour. Also continuing with the walking, spicy foods, sex etc...
Keep me posted, I hope you have a smooth labour!

deba4Cy - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hey there! Yes i do get a lot of cramping and nausea at night. The cramps go away until I get up to pee like 20 times and everytime they come back but just for a bit....and the nausea still stays! Im not sure if its normal but my dr didn't seem too concerned either and I trust him so... just think not too much longer! Try to stay as comfortable as possible!

heather07 - Wednesday, 27 Feb
No, my little man is not giving me any contractions at night or anything, but that could be a good sign for you! Even though they stop during the day, at least it is a sign that your body is getting ready! Good luck! Keep me updated!

heather07 - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hey! Thank you so much! I am excited too. I know it doesn't mean that anything is happening right away, but I'm still excited. I woke up this morning to find another piece and some fluid, so I am wearing a pad to see if it is amniotic fluid, but I don't think so...unfortunately. Also, I think I am still going to continue working until the weekend. (Unless he comes sooner.) The guy who is taking over my classes for 6 weeks starts today, so I may as well go in. I will just sit in my office, grade papers, and unit plan for when I get back. It should be pretty laid back the rest of the week, so I may as well get paid for it!

dawnybobs - Wednesday, 27 Feb
hiya... sorry I cant help you here!! I never had any labour symptoms at all with the boys - joes labour was induced 4 days early and donnys was 10 days overdue - I didnt get any braxton hicks or any twinges whatsoever! but it does sound like maybe you are experiencing braxton hicks (which are the practice contractions that are supposed to prepare you for labour!)- god I am feeling like crap - in an instant last night i came down with one of them colds where your nose drips water and your eyes stream, I had a really broken night sleep where i kept dreaming that i was going into labour , i went for a pee about 4 times in the night and get this ..... the UK had an earthquake!!! it wasnt anything major but our biggest since 1985 and it made me almost fall out of bed!!! i didnt realise at the time that it was an earthquake - I just remember I was laying on the edge of the bed and the next minute I was toppling over the side and i went 'woooooah' I said 'iain give me more room i just nearly fell out of bed' I thought it was because my belly was hanging over the edge and that the weight pulled me over the edge - but this morning when i put the news on i realised what it must have been! my sisters little boy was woken by his bed banging against the wall and lots of my friends say they were woken by their beds/furniture shaking about!!!

jbo - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hello! I haven't gotten any feelings of being sick at night, just a little nauseas if I am not laying on my left side...seems like the only position I am comfortable in anymore! I am experiencing the cramps more during the day. They are painful and low. Also getting a lot of pelvis pressure at night. Those things and some upper uterus tightening seem to be the only things going on. Sophia seems content to hang out in mommy's belly for as long as possible! How are you feeling? Any changes?

LesleyLDN - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hiya, funnily enough i did wake up wanting to be sick twice last night but once i sat up it went away. The aches i've been having are mostly during the day and it's like pulsing/wooshing cramps in my lower back that last up to 10 seconds and yestederday i did have period like pain around my bump. I've no idea if that's the start of something but i guess that it could happen even though Iris is still not engaged - waters can still break even if baby isn't in the right position i assume! My neighbour who was due 2 days after me is in labour as i type - it started yesterday and she'd been 100% normal on Monday evening. I think we have to expect the unexpected and everything in between probably is just our bodies practicing and getting ready. I do feel that i have loads of energy and am waking up around 6am ready to get going. I was even ironing at 6.30am yesterday!!! Is your baby engaged yet? Cervix open etc? I'd have thought that if these things have happened then maybe you are very close - do you feel different/energised/ready?
