PREGNANCY Q &A &more!

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but
pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word 'alimony' means anything to you.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

Saturday, 1 Mar
Due Date: March 1st - Today. Ask me if I've had my baby...go ahead, just ask....

Well I guess I should `update ` my page...although I must say, this would be the first time! Good to document these things right ie get out your frustrations! Well, I have been having `issues ` for past two months. Which, in the big scheme of things is better than issues for 9 months! Working full time in a male dominated work environment, becoming pregnant and having things keep me away from doing 100% is quite frustrating. Our CEO (who is also a woman) is expecting her third child. Her husband stays at home. S he basically works right up until labour, pops the kid out and is back at work one week later. I should have asked her if the week she is taking off is in actuality 5 business days or 7, LOL! In any event. I had planned on working until my final day, however my body rebelled and for the past 8 weeks has only allowed me to sleep for upto 4 hours at a stretch.

Whether bedtime is 8 p.m., I wake at 12.

Try at 10 p.m. I wake at 2.

Good practice for when baby is here...not so good for when I go to bed at 9, awake at 1 and stay awake as I am in at work by 6. So, via doctors orders, I finished work 4 days early. I must say it is quite the relief. But of course, the `baby deadline ` being March 1st and producing no such baby is really bringing me down!

Coincidence, perhaps, but for the last 5 days, I have been having MASSIVE back pains and contractions but the good news is now I can nap throughout the day :)

No `bloody show `,

No additional vaginal discharge,

Nothing that would indicate that my status is progressing.

What I HAVE been going through is major mood swings, limiting communication with the outside world, heartburn back with a vengance, nausea, crazy shooting pains up my left butt cheek (WHAT is THAT from???), vaginal distress (crazy pains shooting up there too), lack of sexual contact, the infuriating inability to sppon behind Jeff and cleaning house...organizing.

Our cleaner showed up yesterday and basically asked WHAT she could clean, as I had had a go at the house for the past 48 hours. Jeff has been prone to mood swings as well lately...we `ve had a few `talks ` but since leaving work, I have relaxed therefore he has relaxed. My doctors are quite pleased with how everything is progressing, (at least they are happy) however having had no internals done, no doctor scheduled U/S since 23 weeks, and being very particular (and yes, some would call me type A and say I am overly competitive), I am going CRAZY!!!!

I actually faked a reason to go to L&D yesterday. I was hoping beyond hope they would take pity on me, and do something to induce labour. The thought was also in my mind that I might be like Sirat and show up with back pains and find out I was 4 cm dilated. No such luck. The doctors are again `pleased ` with how everything is going.

I am slightly effaced, and not even the tiniest bit dilated.

WHAT is the deal with all these back pains and contractions then? It is actually quite heartbreaking...ok see, there I go, melodramatic and irrational. But dammit...enough is enough! Baby, you're in big trouble buster!!!

Tuesday, 4 Mar

Another day, another sleepless night. My life seems to be revolving around not being in labour, and not having work to distract me is causing me to be a wee bit more obsessive than typical.

The thing I hate is that I have no idea what labour feels like, although I have been told by many mothers that when it happens, there is no mistaking it. I wish it was like a switch either on or off, or like a thermometer, when you hit this temp you are done. The anxiety of waiting, wanting, wishing seems unbearable.

Always heving been a `list ` person, my latest list looks something like this (keeping in mind alot of these things I have completed at 3 a.m.):

Things to Do: March 2, 2008

Finish Income Taxes - check.

Research on DayCare/Homes - check.

Stock up freezer - check.

Pick up mail at Condo - check.

Buy DayTimer - check.

Take SUV in for service...

Have baby.....

I HATE not being able to check things off my list!!!

So I see my Doc today...have written down what I have been feeling, and what I want to know. For some bizarre reason, everytime I go there, I forget something! It's like taking an exam, and afterwards you slap the forehead with a "Oh yeah...."

Hope to get `the sweep ` done today. Have an acupuncture appointment as well. It `s funny, poking got me in this state in the first place, and now poking seems to be the only thing moving things forward again!

`I see skinny people `

Tuesday, 4 Mar

oh,oh, oh...I just coughed and my mucus plug came out with some fluid that wasn `t pee!!!!! I never thought I would get so excited about wetting my pants!!!!!!!

dolphinloves4 - Sunday, 16 Mar
alone time?? What's that?? lol :p My husband and I very rarely get out by ourselves and when we do, we just don't know what to do with ourselves and find ourselves talking about the boys and missing them haha. It's quite sad really lol.

We didnt get to take the boys to the egg hunt because the weather got nasty today. Was snowing/raining all afternoon but I imagine that they cancelled it and it will be back on tomorrow.

I just love those pics that I have in my profile of the boys. Only Aidan was actually sleeping though lol Ethan and Adam both posed for it. I'll have to get one of Evan to put up as well, should be easy since he sleeps about 3/4 of the day lol.

MaryJanowiecki - Saturday, 15 Mar

Hey! I had my little girl Sierra at 10:09am on the 10th of March. 12 hour labour - vaginal birth - no pain relief! She's healthy and just gorgeous!! Hope that all is going well with you and your precious little one? I LOVE that photo on your profile!

MaryJanowiecki - Friday, 14 Mar
Hi. :D Actually yes I went to get induced on the night of the 10th. The next day I was a 9 by 3 pm and had a long hard labor I pushed for 2 hours, got an infection and had 103 fever so they talked about c section but then decided to wait for my fever to go down, then I pushed for over 3 hours where he was ALMOST out only to end up having a csection after all. l0l. I pretty much have 2 birth stories since I did all that pushing and then had surgery. He was 3 pounds bigger than my doctor had predicted at 9 pounds 10.7 ounces! There was no way he was going to make it out of me. thank you for thinking about me I can't wait to show pictures. :D

mommah - Friday, 14 Mar
I finally had my baby! He was delivered in emergency c section on March 9 after I was induced and laboured for 19 very painful hours. His head was down, but sideways. We are finally home and are doing great.

NoaTay - Friday, 14 Mar
Actually the pain was very minimal considering I had a c-section. The worst part is being a prisoner in my own home. Thank goodness my husband is home for 3 weeks. After that I don't know what I'm going to do with myself for the next 3 months.

dolphinloves4 - Friday, 14 Mar
I think I'm relaxed because I had myself so worked up beforehand about having four kids lol that I was making it far worse in my mind than what it actually is lol
But then again, I imagine that it will get harder once Evan is mobile haha and raising hell. Right now the biggest challenge is our 2 year old as the two oldest help out quite a bit but I think he'll mellow out when he starts preschool next month and has something to do lol

I'm a bit shocked that I lost the weight so quickly as well. I think I was just retaining a lot of water and now that it's out of my system, all is good. I STILL need to lose the weight from Aidan though. I gained over a 100 pounds with him since I was on light activity/bed rest from 10 weeks on -.- I managed to lose 60 pounds of it before getting pregnant with Evan. So once the weather gets nicer, I'm going to be out running and getting the rest off for I can once again be my usual thin self lol Least I don't have to worry about getting pregnant again hahaha
I'm sure the rest of your weight will come off in no time...you were SOOOO thin beforehand and didn't look like you gained too much (lucky :p)

So have you made any Easter plans yet? We're taking the boys to an egg hunt this weekend (weather permitting), they're really looking forward to it! ^^
I wish they made cuter Easter clothes for boys though :( The outfits look so geeky haha I'm probably not even going to bother buying them lol

Take Care ^^ ~Jen

LesleyLDN - Friday, 14 Mar
Hello - well, i like you am now finding that i have little time for anything but baby! Iris Ann was born last Friday, 7th, at 5.40pm London time and she weighed 9lbs. I have to have a C section as she was nowhere near engaged and being 40 weeks and 4 days meant that it was just time to have her out and nature wasn't doing/couldn't do what it should. We're all doing great though and she's a really easy going baby. How are you getting on with your little one...that pic is soooooooooooo cute. How are you feeling? I haven't managed to go out yet but i think tomorrow is the day...wish me luck ;o)
OH, Stacey (Sterling) was induced today so i'm just waiting on that all importnant text to say her wee man has arrived. She sent message earlier saying things were getting going so hopefully it won't be too long before she has her bundle of love.
How are you finding being a mum though? I'm enjoying it...so far so good. xx

soon2bmummaof2 - Friday, 14 Mar
Oh, I forgot. Cinema Paradiso-my all time favourite movie! The singer is Josh Grobin. If you haven't seen it, you should rent it. Sometimes it's a bit hard to find-phone the video store first. Warning-you may cry! :)

soon2bmummaof2 - Friday, 14 Mar
Thanks for the stretching advice. My doctor said the same so I've been doing that. Yeah, my first with back labour wasn't the most comfy. It was kind of like a constant, nauseating back ache that wouldn't subside. I pushed for an hour and a half with no progress because he was turned the wrong way. Finally a nurse told me to go pee and then turned me on my side. Hugh flipped and then voila!-pushing that actually did something! Out he came!
Anyway, my doctor said that if this one starts out in the sunny side up position, he/she won't stay that way long because everything is opened up from having one child already. They usually will flip around way sooner.
Yesterday I had the most intense cramping and uterine surges, so I thought it might be the day. Oh well, maybe today. LOL At least my husband, Darrell, starts spring break now and my parents are coming today from Kamloops to look after Hugh while we're in the hospital. Things are progressing!
How's Jackson? Isn't he the cuddliest? Don't you just want to stare at his precious little face for hours?
Hope everyone's doing well in your new little family! I'll keep you posted. :) susan

Nikki2212 - Friday, 14 Mar
OMG He looks adorable! I love the pic!!! How are u doing?

ikmg80 - Friday, 14 Mar
Hi! Hope everything is going well :) So, what are the 7 reasons babies cry? I went through a few...and nothing until I called the doc and mentioned the 'under feeding him' part lol Well my boobs don't really produce milk anymore :( Too bad cuz is the best for the baby, but what can I do, right?! I tried... So isn't motherhood amazing!? I'm totally in love with my baby!!

soon2bmummaof2 - Thursday, 13 Mar
Hey! Silver is slowly but surely making progress. I was 1 cm on Tuesday and today I'm 2-3. My doctor says he is almost certain Siver will make his/her appearance within the next 4 days at most! I'm trying hard to be patient and keeping busy. It helps having Hugh here because I'm always driving him to preschool, floor hockey, etc. Last night I was having cramps that felt exactly like back labour. Sure enough, my doctor today said Silver was face up! I asked him if I was in for another back labour episode, but he said usually in subsequent pregnancies they flip around quickly and will be face to the back.
Anyway, I definitely feel like things are starting to get going, so I'll let you know when I'm heading to the hospital! :) Enjoy every minute with your little man!
susan

dawnybobs - Thursday, 13 Mar
hi mommy... iains nans funeral was yesterday and its ok he made it there and back with no drama from me!! we went hospital last night and they did internal and my waters are slowly trickling - I went back today and they confirmed it again so they will be taking me in tomorrow 1st thing in the morning as it cant be left more than 48 hours so they will break my waters so hopefully labour will then kick in!! saying that in the last hour ive been losing more water so you never know it may all happen over night!!! i'll keep you in the loop!!! xxxx

greengoddessagen - Thursday, 13 Mar
Well Karyn, I'm still here waiting for this little girl to join 'the land of the outside'!

I was meant to be induced yesturday however as my cervix was still 'unfavouable' was told the induction may fail, so I was given a couple more days for it to 'be ready'. I'm being monitored every day which is tiring, but necessary :D.

Yesturday evening I had 2 hours of acupuncture as a last effert to get this stubborn adorable child to birth naturally.... we'll see! I am back at the docs tomorrow morning and if I'm not ready, he will be!... he doesn't want to wait any longer.

As this is my last pregnancy I am still trying to enjoy these last few moments... and trying not to focus on the negative...

I'll update tomorrow morning after I see my DR... oh, and the acupuncturist said that I had really low energy and that is probably why I'm overdue, hopefully she did the job !!!
Hope all is well for your gorgeous family.
XXEm

LOL ' some dink in an Armani suit!' That one made me chuckle!!! I remember the first time I took my little guy downtown to 'show him off' to my co-workers. I felt really out of place being downtown...you're right it isn't stoller friendly! My life seemed a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of downtown 'life' and that world didn't seem to matter anymore because I was so wrapped up in diapers and trying to breastfeed (it was hard!) and total exhaustion from being up at nite!!! How are u feeling otherwise?...i remember I was quite weepy/moody and a bit sad the first few weeks. It was all a bit overwhelming. I mean I WAS happy to have him home, but I was soooo tired and the hormones were crazy!
I'm feeling great overall (5 months now), starting to really have troubles sleeping (already!) sore hips and heartburn at nite. Good times. good times.
Hope you're getting some sleep and that breastfeeding is going well. The sore boobs will pass...eventually! Love your new profile pic (is that a manger your little guy is laying in? LOL) Not sure what it is, but it's supa cute!!!

Sterling - Thursday, 13 Mar
Hello sexy mumma, how's life on the other side for you? I have to say, your little boy is very beautiful and those photos you are already taking are priceless. I want you to stay in touch in case I end up moving to Canada over the next year so please give me your private email address (stalker and all that) I am still here, childless on the outside, childful on the inside. Can you believe it? Mrs f'ing naturale over here has had to succumb to hospital induction tomorrow morning - plans could not have gone further from what was expected. I took your lead last week and had 3 hours worth of pretty intense accupunture, not even a tingle down there. I have 2 membrane sweep attempts and both have been unsuccessful as the cervix is closed and the baby's head just isn't far down enough. You name it, I have done it and am doing it, all the raspberry leaf capsules one can stomach, bouncing on birthing ball, nookie, strenous and mainly painful walking, hot baths, visualisations NNOOOOOO, one cannot do much more than this in 24 hours. He is clearly hanging onto my ribcage and refusing to move. The Dr cautiously informed me that at this stage, there should be some progress and if all forms of artificial induction fail then it's the dreaded drip, if baby gets stressed then it's the machete! Karyn, I was so hoping for the natural onset, hypnobirthing practise etc etc etc that it's ironically laughable that it should come to this. I should have known really considering my track record ha ha ha. Not one whose plans go well at the best of times. Anyway, most importantly, the baby cannot stay in there any longer (I could argue this one out but I have succumbed and do not know enough about going over 42 weeks to state a strong case) and I hope to god that this doesn't go on for 3 days like I have heard from so many. There's only so much positive air one can breath and now it's a take it as it comes approach. I am envisaging the worst case scenario so the rest is a bonus, if that makes sense to you. I just had strong pre-labour, labour and post-birth plans which I hope I can still stick to. Other than all this depression, I am fine LOL. No seriously, I am fine. It would be a tough old situation to deal with if I didn't accept and it's not like I am the only one. So Miss Calgary 2008, you kep me updated with yourself and i am sure I'll have pics-a-plenty up next week at some point. Take care now my dear and give that sweet little angel a big kiss on the head from his aunty Essex xxxxxx

Those pictures are adorable!! Love the harley shirt! I'm a bit shocked that my parents haven't gotten Evan tons of Harley stuff yet lol (they're bikers lol) I did have him in some Harley booties the other day though lol

As for how we're all doing here, pretty good ^^ Evan is still the world's best baby. It's a bit offputting since he's one of my demon spawns lmao!! I'm just still remembering how Aidan was...omg what a nightmare lol Evan is just so zen and laid back about everything. Only thing he gets worked up about is when you don't feed him fast enough.

I've been doing both bottle and breast feeding. It actually works for us lol but my breasts FINALLY stopped with the engoregment and have shrunk (yay!) I'm feeling much more like my usual self and am even back in all my pre-preggers clothing. My husband was a bit shocked at how quickly I've lost the weight and has even said that it doesn't even look like I was ever pregnant (curious if he was just sucking up for that he could one day have sex again...*ponders*)

Not much else has been going on. I've been checking here daily for any word from Stacey on if she's had her little one. I sure do hope it's soon lol Poor girl must be so miserable :(

Hope you and Jackson are doing well, looks like the little guy is just perfect :)
Take care ~Jen
