at the end of the day if you are well off enough to not have to rely on the government then thats your choice its there for those who need it, if you do need it then i guess its the social security office you ask, when you get your bounty welcome packs from hospital or midwife if homebirth then the information will be in there. you are entitled to 9 months maternity leave on maternity pay too. its your choice what you claim for. the trust fund i think is for everyone?

Hi there Carly, About the child benifit thing, Yes you are entilted to it if you work or not, As soon as you have the baby if you go on the direct.gov website and look up child benifit you can claim on line. I think its about £18ish a week but they pay you monthly. Also the goverment set up a child trust fund payment of £250 lump sum when the babys born to open them there own trust fund account. Hope this helps you. If you want more info look on the goverment Benifits web site in the UK. Christina

I'd call your dr. But it could be low blood pressure, drink lots of water, could be iron, etc

I had these same dizzy feelings with my other son. When I called the doctor they would just say that it was normal. Your baby is getting big and may be just sitting on your nerves.

Kristin14 - Friday, 20 June
Hi - I get dizzy spells too - normally in the morning as well and sometimes when I get home from a busy day at work. What I've realized it is (at least for me) is that I haven't eaten or drinken enough. So I normally grab water and sit right down and drink the whole thing and get some fruit or veggies in my stomache - within 5 - 10 minutes I'm feeling sooo much better. Hope it helps!

Hey hun. I am from the UK too, they monitor our glucose through our blood tests, I am hjaving mine done next week, they just take alot more blood than usual I think? But to be sure maybe ask your doctor?xx

mumsie26 - Friday, 20 June
your dizzy spells could be due to lack of iron, anaemia ( lack of oxygen) you can get ablood test but have to wait for the results, and if you read up on anaemia and think its that you can help yourself by eating extra rich iron foods..

nadz - Thursday, 19 June
Hey there Carly im from N.Ireland and no we dont get that test, dis is my second baby and ive never even heard of this test aprart from on here, i guess it must only be done here if they feel they need to. all we get is all ur blood tests when u visit hos and then ususal uring an BP check with your midwife. Hope dis helps xx

momtheil - Thursday, 19 June
Carly - in regard to the Glucose test. You'll know if you're having an issue if you're putting on weight like crazy. The test looks for gestational diabetes - dumbed down, your body stops processing sugars (aka carbohydrates) and they turn into fat that gets stored on you and the baby. If you're measuring large for your due date, you'd want to request the test. Otherwise, to be on the safe side... watch the carbs & sugars, especially in the morning. I failed my initial test and had to go for a more extensive retest. Found out that after fasting (sleeping) my body hasn't been processing the cereal, milk and large orange juice that have been my daily ritual since well before pregnancy. I switched to eggs and a peice of whole wheat toast and went about the rest of my diet as I always have and everything has leveled out. Sorry this was so worried, but hope it's a bit helpful. Best of luck to you and your little one!

Do you know whats really cute, my little girl whos 3 very soon sings to the baby, she sings twinkle twinkle and every time she does it kicks liks mad then too, SOOO sweet and Freya loves it.

I been today to see the midwife, am measuring 30 weeks and baby is breech! im really hoping that it turns so that i can go ahead with my planned home birth, mind you if its too big they wont let me birth at home anyway, got to have another scan at 36-37 weeks anyway to see how size is going.

Ive been so uncomfortable and kicks have been really painful but i guess with a little head under my ribs its no wonder is it LOL.
Terrible heartburn and really short of breath, work is a bit of a slog too.

Never mind thogh it will be well worth the end result.
Look after yourself now and count your blessings that all is going so well for you.
Luv Theresa xxx

lauralou2111 - Thursday, 19 June
hiya ive gotta have one next week, basically when u have ur routine 28 week blood tests if ur glucose is high they will write to u and ask u to come for a glucose tolerance test, lasts about 3 hrs! i had glucose in my urine and in my blood thats why, but if u dont hear anything back from ur blood test then that means everythings fine, hope this helps xx

hopeful2008 - Thursday, 19 June
Hiya,
I wondered the same thing, seems a real big things outside the Uk hu.
Having said that, when we have bloods this week they chck our glucose levels too, if they are high then they call you back on to do a glucose tollerance test (GTT).
I only know this because thats what happened last time i was pregnant.
They gave me lucozade to drink so dont be put off by the horrible drink that everyones going on about too.

Hope that helps clear things up for you.
Hows things going for you this week?
Take care
Theresa xxx

augustbump - Thursday, 19 June
the glucose test is to determine if you have gestational diabetes...you will have to ask your midwife/np/or dr if you are supposed to get it, I dunno how it works in the UK, however I know that with gestational diabetes it can be dangerous if you have it and don't keep it under control...plus babies born to moms with GD usually are quite large.

If you think about it, even if it is a nickname for penis when do we really use our middle name? most people will ever know, and if people make fun of him for it they're just retarded. good luck!

longed4baby - Saturday, 14 June
Hiyah! Just thought id reply to ya post on the forum! Here in sunny South Wales a 'John Thomas' is most definately a reference to a mans willy! So your cousin was telling the truth im afraid! xxx

armywifeash - Saturday, 14 June
You know, about the name thing, just teach your kid to woop the mess out of anyone that messes with him! ;0) If we were having a boy we wanted to name him Patrick Marshall Sharp and his initials would be PMS. We said, well our kid will be tough and wont take crap from anyone! My initials are APES and I had a hard time with it for a little while when I was growing up, but now, I dont give a crap! I laugh about it because I really like my name. I think you should do what you want!

truthandsoul - Saturday, 14 June
I think if you like the name you shouldnt have to comrpomise on reshuffling. But i know how you feel. When we chose a name we went through the whole thing of bullying at school, nicknames etc.We decided on Jasmine, nickname will be Jas,we realised we could live with that, probably wouldnt cause any bullying but you just never know.I think its maybe an older thing anyways.I have never heard of the penis reference.Im 26 but my partner who is 39 knows of it so maybe check the ages out of people who know the reference and see if its an older joke. You might get away with it then.

mummatobe - Saturday, 14 June
I just googled John Thomas - I'm afraid your cousin seems to be right. Its cockney slang. I never heard of it till now but my Mum knew. You might want to rethink.....

mommyrock - Saturday, 14 June
Carly, I've never heard it called that in the states. I knew a guy in college who bragged about his Prince Albert after he got it and all I could think of was, didn't that hurt? People will find something to make fun of its sad. My brother and cousin's ex husband likes to call my husband Long Jon Rockwood. I can't tell you how many times after I got engaged I heard, 'your last name sounds like a porno name

Momma327 - Saturday, 14 June
I have never heard of that but nowadays there are tons of names that can be referred to as a penis. I say if you really like it, go with it . But if you believe this, then you might want to consider. Good luck!
