The birth of Stephanie Mae......

As I woke up on Saturday, 12 January at 6h30, I felt pain like contractions – not too sore but not something to be ignored. Started timing them but they were mostly irregular again but sometimes a few would be 7 minutes apart. This carried on until about 8h30 and then nothing. For the next few hours my belly just felt tender but no more contractions or cramps.

So once my little boy woke up from his morning sleep, we got ready to go do the usual Saturday morning grocery shopping. My tummy started paining a bit so I decided that I’d call the hospital when we got home. As I got in the car, around 11h30, the pain felt more like the contractions again so started timing them. No sooner did we arrive at the shop that they were coming 4 to 5 minutes apart and more intense than the earlier pains. So I told hubby that we must rush through the shop cos I didn’t want to risk my water breaking here as I’d just die of embarrassment. Before even arriving home, I noticed that I was getting 3 contractions in 10 minutes that were really painful so started panicking. Got home and grabbed suitcase whilst trying to sort out my little guys stuff too… was crazy getting everything organized so quick and crying in pain with every contraction.

Arrived at the hospital at about 12h00 and they hooked me up to the foetal heart / contraction monitor and took blood pressure – since it was high it indicated that my body was dealing with pain!! And the foetal machine was indicating there were definite contractions. The nurse did an internal and said I was 4 to 5 cm dilated. So they took me over to the labour ward and contacted the doc who said he’d come now since my last delivery was so quick that I was sure to deliver soon – he got there like 10 minutes later and said that it would be quick, as the nurses said too that I’d dilate quickly. Not too much longer and I was given my epidural – heaven.

Around 13h30 they did another internal but there was no change and said they only check every 2 hours so we must wait!! Finally the next exam at 15h30 showed that I’d dilated to 6cm and the head was right there with the water bulging around it. The doc decided to speed things up so they put some drug into the IV and broke the water as they felt that this was slowing things too. Within an hour I was at 8cm and ready to start pushing. The fourth round of pushes and my little girls head was out. The doc was really pulling on her head to get the rest of her body out which wasn’t coming too easily. Finally there she was on my chest screaming those little lungs out – she didn’t stop until she ate and boy did she eat ;)

So my Stephanie Mae was born at 17h15 weighing 3.30kg, 50cm tall and head circumference of 35cm and the most beautiful shade of pink I ever saw.

Hey Charmane,

How are you?

Wow, Steph is growing nicely!! Gosh, I can't believe its taken them 6 months to finally diagnose the reflux....crazy! I got Ella weighed and measured last week - she was 8.61kg and 70cm long with a head circumference of 45cm. The nurse said she was definitley big for her age but very in proportion for her size. I'm not fussed..she's happy and healthy and not overweight so its all good :-)

Good to hear you've found somthing new that Steph likes to eat. Gosh..little girls are so fussy...heee! Ella loves her food but is also a little fussy! She doesn't like the rice cereal or yoghurt or custard and is fussy if i haven't pureed the vegies really runny. She loves broccoli, pumpkin, sweet potato and carrot and all fruits. And I discovered yesterday that she loves pureed oats...YAY! Finally somthing i can give her for breakfast!

We've got family staying with us at the moment (hence why it has taken me so long to write back...sorry). My 2yr old Newphew is also with us so he is keeping Ella very entertained...she loves it.

Yeah, i need to update my page with photos don't i :-) I'll get around to it soon...hopefully. Are u on facebook?

Anyways I gotta go and start the chaos of the day.

Hope you're well.

Take care,
Claire :-)

P.S. Haa.....I just watched the video of Steph eating...so cute! I had to laugh when she stopped half way through to do her business!! I swear everytime I strap Ella into the high chair and start feeding her...she stops to do a poo!!

Oh that sux that the colic has made its ugly return again!! Ella has AVENT bottles and has ever since i started bottle feeding but I know some of the babies in my mothers group won't drink from an avent bottle!!

Aww...so cute that Sebastien is a keen little helper!! He sounds like he was an absolute dream of a baby...hopefully my 2nd will be like that :-)

With my next, if I'm bottle feeding, I think i'll try a different formula from the one I give Ella. She is on Karicare Gold Plus and we haven't had any probs with it - she is never constipated or colic or reflux...but I just don't think it is as filling as the other formulas. She is back to feeding twice at night again (10pm & 3am)!! She is having 3x solids meals a day and 4 bottles but she is still waking in the night and is soooo hungry!! All of the formula fed babies at my mothers group are sleeping through except for Ella and another baby who is 8 and a half months old and they are the only bubs on Karicare!!! INTERESTING!!

Ella has her 6 month needles in a couple of weeks! I hate the needles!! The actual needle part isn't the problem with Ella...its the few weeks after!!!! They really mess her system up! Her routine goes crazy the 2 weeks after needles, because she starts to really fight her sleep during the days! It sometimes will take me 2 hours to get her to sleep and then she'll only sleep for 20mins! ARGH!
She's been great the last few days - having long day sleeps and being a happy chappy....I don't want that to change after her stupid needles :-(

I went shopping in the City yesterday and left Ella with Chris for the whole day. He had a great day with her and she was an angel for him!!
Do u ever get the chance to get out and have a break every now and then? It would be harder with 2 bubs i guess! But I've been really enjoying having a few hours off every couple of weeks :-) And its so lovely to carry just a handbag and wear heels :-) Instead of carting around the pram, the baby, the nappy bag and all the other junk you have to leave the house with...haaaa!!!

Anyways, i better go and eat some lunch while my little princess naps!

Hope you're having a good start to the week!
Claire :-)

ClaireC - Thursday, 10 July
Hello Hello,
I'm going well and Ella is great. She had a bad week last week - she was over her cold but very cranky and grizzly. She was not sleeping very well during the days and being very clingy to me. But thank goodness that has stopped - I don't know what was up with her!! Whether is was her teeth or if she was just feeling unwell still or what....but she is back to her happy, cheerful self this week. She is rolling around like crazy and making all kinds of interesting sounds and babble. And her legs and back are getting very strong now. She can sit up without support for a while but usually looses her balance and stacks it :-) I think she actually gets frustrated that she can't move yet - because when she's on her tummy, I can see the determination in her face to get to a toy but she doesn't know how to...and ends u cracking it bigtime...hehehe!

Haaa...thats funny that you said 'when will things get easy with Steph' I think that some days with Ella. We'll be in a nice routine and everything seems to flow and be easy and then the next week, everything changes for whatever reason!! Crazy!! And it all seems very hard!!!
She;s enjoying her food but has been loosing her appetite some days so hardly eats a thing!! Then other days she eats like a horse!

I've got to go...she's hungry now :-)

How's little Sebastien? He's such a cutie!

Claire :-)
