The birth of Stephanie Mae......

As I woke up on Saturday, 12 January at 6h30, I felt pain like contractions – not too sore but not something to be ignored. Started timing them but they were mostly irregular again but sometimes a few would be 7 minutes apart. This carried on until about 8h30 and then nothing. For the next few hours my belly just felt tender but no more contractions or cramps.

So once my little boy woke up from his morning sleep, we got ready to go do the usual Saturday morning grocery shopping. My tummy started paining a bit so I decided that I’d call the hospital when we got home. As I got in the car, around 11h30, the pain felt more like the contractions again so started timing them. No sooner did we arrive at the shop that they were coming 4 to 5 minutes apart and more intense than the earlier pains. So I told hubby that we must rush through the shop cos I didn’t want to risk my water breaking here as I’d just die of embarrassment. Before even arriving home, I noticed that I was getting 3 contractions in 10 minutes that were really painful so started panicking. Got home and grabbed suitcase whilst trying to sort out my little guys stuff too… was crazy getting everything organized so quick and crying in pain with every contraction.

Arrived at the hospital at about 12h00 and they hooked me up to the foetal heart / contraction monitor and took blood pressure – since it was high it indicated that my body was dealing with pain!! And the foetal machine was indicating there were definite contractions. The nurse did an internal and said I was 4 to 5 cm dilated. So they took me over to the labour ward and contacted the doc who said he’d come now since my last delivery was so quick that I was sure to deliver soon – he got there like 10 minutes later and said that it would be quick, as the nurses said too that I’d dilate quickly. Not too much longer and I was given my epidural – heaven.

Around 13h30 they did another internal but there was no change and said they only check every 2 hours so we must wait!! Finally the next exam at 15h30 showed that I’d dilated to 6cm and the head was right there with the water bulging around it. The doc decided to speed things up so they put some drug into the IV and broke the water as they felt that this was slowing things too. Within an hour I was at 8cm and ready to start pushing. The fourth round of pushes and my little girls head was out. The doc was really pulling on her head to get the rest of her body out which wasn’t coming too easily. Finally there she was on my chest screaming those little lungs out – she didn’t stop until she ate and boy did she eat ;)

So my Stephanie Mae was born at 17h15 weighing 3.30kg, 50cm tall and head circumference of 35cm and the most beautiful shade of pink I ever saw.

Hey Charmane,
How are you?
It must be nice having your daughter staying again. What are you up to this week?

And great to hear that Steph is happy and all smiles. How is she going on her 3 solids a day.
Ella still loves her food!! I missed her lunch time solids today though because she had a massive day sleep and slept through that meal :-)
She is better now from the virus but she has still been very grizzly and fighting sleep bigtime. I took her back to the Doc yesterday coz she was pulling at her left ear so I thought it may have been an ear infection. No ear infection but the Doc seems to think that more teeth are on their way on the top left....argh....I thought the poor darling would get a break from teething for a while :-) She's not a very good teether..heee...it must hurt like crazy though!! It took me 2 hours to get her to sleep this morning...it was so frustrating. But then she had a 2 hour sleep in the middle of the day...which is unlike her....that was nice coz I had a nap too.
Apart from the teething...she is all good.
Growing and changing everyday. I love this age (just not the teething part..haaa)

She is still not sleeping through the night. She goes down in the evening really easy so our routine must be working but she is still feeding once during the night and waking a few other times still. Every night is different so its hard to predict what each night will bring.

How is Steph's sleeping? Is she still sleeping well?

Did u find a playgroup for the kiddies?

Swimming lessons sounds great. I'm going to take Ella to swimming lessons in our Spring & Summer (September - Feb) before I go back to work :-( We don't have a pool at home but Chris and I both love swimming and spend a lot of time at the beach in Summer.

Anyways, hope all is well with you.

Have a good week.
Claire :-)

Hehehe..... every baby is so different, therefore I only take advice from Doctors and Pead's lightly. Ella had been showing teething signs since 3 months so I knew she'd get a tooth fairly early. Yeah, Chris and I both teethed around 5-6 months and I have heard it can be genetic.

I took Ella to the Doc. She has a virus on her chest called Bronchiolitis. Antibiotics won't help so basically I can just give her panadol for any pain or high temps and keep her propped up when she sleeps. She's slowly getting better. She's still quite congested and wheezy but I think she's on the mend. I'm really sick too with a cold. Oh, its so hard looking after a sick baby when your feeling crappy yourself hey!

How's Steph this week?

C :-)

Hey Charmane,
I just came online to send you a message and you had already beaten me to it :-)
I'm going well. Ella has a nasty cold and a cough. I'm taking her to the Doctor today coz her chest is sounding very conjested and wheezy!
Yeah..she has been really unsettled and grizzly lately....but....she got her 1st tooth on Wednesday...YAY!!! It was so relieving to see that tooth and know the grizzling was for a reason!!! The 2nd one is on its way too.
Apart from the teething and cold, she is great. Rolling around everywhere and trying to sit up...not very good at that though :-)

It sounds like you have Steph on a similar routine to Ella now. She's still having 4 bottles a day but she's having solids 3 times a day. She's also dropped the 10pm night feed....FINALLY!!!!! She's still feeding about 2am but I'm hoping she'll drop that soon too...
Ella loves pears...hehehe. She's not too keen on apples though!

I took Ella to the weigh-in clinic on Wednesday. She's now 8.24kg and 69cm long. She'll be 5 months next week!

What are you up to this weekend?

Chat soon,
Claire :-)

ClaireC - Sunday, 8 June
Hi Charmane,
How are you going?
Great to hear from you! I'm going along really well. Its getting a little cold here now....yuck!!! I hate winter :-(

Thats great that all is going along well with Steph. Hopefully the chiropractor can work his magic. Thats awesome that she can sit. Ella trys to but looses her balance after a few secs. I bought her a BUMBO seat though and she loves sitting in that. We also got a Jolly Jumper yesterday. Do u have them over there? Ella loved it. We put it outside (its on a stand) and she bounced around for about 30mins whilst Chris was on his exercise bike and I was relaxing and having a coffee :-)

Have u given Steph some cereal yet?
Ella us still loving her food. She has it 2-3 times a day. She always has lunch and dinner but I sometimes offer her a small breakfast serve too. She's not very hungry in the mornings so i dropped the breakfast cereal everyday and introduced it at lunch time.
Ella was having a bottle every 3 hours for quite a while (sometimes every 2.5 hrs!!) but for the past 2 months or so, I've had her drinking a bottle every 4 hours. Her first is at 7:30am, the 11:30am, 3:30pm & 6:45pm. But she is still having a bottle at about 2:30am though. No matter what I do - she still wakes for a feed then!! I offer her 200ml each feed (thats 200ml of water and 4 scoops of formula). On the tin it says that by this age they should be having 250ml and 5 scoops but she rarely finishes the 200ml. She prob has 120ml at the first feed, 200ml at 11:30am, 150ml at 3:30pm and 120ml at 6:45pm. (and 120ml at 2:30am). Everyday is different as u know though - sometimes she drinks all her bottles at every feed, other days its a struggle to get her to drink even 100ml. I find it much easier with her drinking every 4 hours - allows enough time to get out and about without having to stop all the time to feed. Her sleep routine during the day is pretty inconsistent though - for about 2 weeks she was an absolute dream sleeper (in the days) but for the past 4 days she has been really fighting her sleep and then only napping for 20-50mins.

Wow...i can't believe Steph is 5 months old soon. Ella will be on the 25th - gosh...where has all this time gone???
How old is Sebastien now?

The next one you ask....mmmmmmm!!!??? I would like 2 kids! And I've always liked the idea of having them fairly close together but now I'm not so sure...heeee! Ella is such a bad sleeper that I'm too scared to bring another child into the equation until she is sleeping through. I was thinking I'd like to have another when Ella was 2-3. I don't know though...we'll see!! Chris is just content with just Ella at the moment. He has 2 kids (now 10 and 14yrs old) from a previous relationship (yes he was a young Dad - at 19) but they live in Melbourne, VICTORIA (2 day drive away) and their mother makes a lot of trouble for us. She rarely lets Chris see them (but happily takes his money and support...!!) They have wanted to live with us several times (his duaghter was with us at Easter and she wanted to stay) but the mum makes it into such a big drama and guilt trip that everyone gets upset and hurt. When Ebony (his daughter) went back to Melb, she ended up running away from home and tried to get back up to here to live with us....drama drama drama!!! But she is now back with her mother and Chris just continues to try his best at keeping the peace and doing whatever he can!! So...he's a little overwhelmed at the the thought of us having another and him being the father of 4 at 33 :-) But I definitely want another little bub one day.

Thats good that Steph's next lot of needles are at 9months..we have more at 6 months...yuck! Ella was fine with them the other day - let out a little yelp, cried for 15secs and then was over it and asleep. But its the next week after that she seems to react to - just unsettled and not sleeping much!!

Well I better go. She's awake. We're off to a BBQ today for Chris's boss's b'day.

Hope your're having a good weekend.
Claire xox.

wow that sounds crazy! i think ill pass just cause i dont want to go thru that on the chance. i have done birth control in the past but im nursing and so theres only one kind the doc would let me go on( pill wise) and i did not like that in the past so ill pass! my husband has not got sniped yet but he still wants to sometimes. thats nice of you to donate eggs. i sometime would like to be a saragent.. you know where its someone elses egg and sperm so it has no relationship to me , im just a oven! but my husband is not for it so i dont see it happening but its close to my heart cause my sister in law( his sister) has had no problem getting pregnant just keeps loosing the babies around 15-16 weeks! she has lost 3 so far! i saw what she went through and 2 of the times i was pregnant at the same time she was! i just feel for her, i know it must be hard. i think why its hard for him is just seeing me pregnant and it not be ours the giving it up....it would be to hard. sometimes i think that would be hard too but then outhers im like, well its not mine, but then its like i carried it so .... its a mixed feelings. have you ever donated eggs before?
