The birth of Stephanie Mae......

As I woke up on Saturday, 12 January at 6h30, I felt pain like contractions – not too sore but not something to be ignored. Started timing them but they were mostly irregular again but sometimes a few would be 7 minutes apart. This carried on until about 8h30 and then nothing. For the next few hours my belly just felt tender but no more contractions or cramps.

So once my little boy woke up from his morning sleep, we got ready to go do the usual Saturday morning grocery shopping. My tummy started paining a bit so I decided that I’d call the hospital when we got home. As I got in the car, around 11h30, the pain felt more like the contractions again so started timing them. No sooner did we arrive at the shop that they were coming 4 to 5 minutes apart and more intense than the earlier pains. So I told hubby that we must rush through the shop cos I didn’t want to risk my water breaking here as I’d just die of embarrassment. Before even arriving home, I noticed that I was getting 3 contractions in 10 minutes that were really painful so started panicking. Got home and grabbed suitcase whilst trying to sort out my little guys stuff too… was crazy getting everything organized so quick and crying in pain with every contraction.

Arrived at the hospital at about 12h00 and they hooked me up to the foetal heart / contraction monitor and took blood pressure – since it was high it indicated that my body was dealing with pain!! And the foetal machine was indicating there were definite contractions. The nurse did an internal and said I was 4 to 5 cm dilated. So they took me over to the labour ward and contacted the doc who said he’d come now since my last delivery was so quick that I was sure to deliver soon – he got there like 10 minutes later and said that it would be quick, as the nurses said too that I’d dilate quickly. Not too much longer and I was given my epidural – heaven.

Around 13h30 they did another internal but there was no change and said they only check every 2 hours so we must wait!! Finally the next exam at 15h30 showed that I’d dilated to 6cm and the head was right there with the water bulging around it. The doc decided to speed things up so they put some drug into the IV and broke the water as they felt that this was slowing things too. Within an hour I was at 8cm and ready to start pushing. The fourth round of pushes and my little girls head was out. The doc was really pulling on her head to get the rest of her body out which wasn’t coming too easily. Finally there she was on my chest screaming those little lungs out – she didn’t stop until she ate and boy did she eat ;)

So my Stephanie Mae was born at 17h15 weighing 3.30kg, 50cm tall and head circumference of 35cm and the most beautiful shade of pink I ever saw.

Hey, how are you? Thanks for your message.
Yay...she's here..I'm so happy! I had a pretty quick labour - a few minor contractions Thurs afternoon/evening - but nothing too significant (i thought they were BH), then I had a great nights sleep - woke up @ about 5am - waters broke and at 11:31am she was out! I'll give more info & update my page when I get a chance soon!
How's Stephanie going? Argh...breastfeeding is sooo much harder than I expected, but I'm persisting with it. Milk hasn't come in yet...starting to. I'm having to express every 3hrs and feed Ella that coz she's not sucking enough when I only give her the breast. My boobs are sooo sore! Anyways, i better scoot.
Chat soon, Claire xo

thanks for your comment. I am totally torn on what to do. Now I'm thinking I'll give it another week putting me at 41 before I induce. But hell about every hour or so I change my mind so who knows what it'll be in the morning. Thanks again. BTW - Stephanie is just beautiful, really she is.

hawaiimommy - Monday, 21 Jan

Hey, Ahhh...she's gorgeous. You must be so happy! Congrats again!
Well....still nothing here for me. No bub and no real signs of her coming too soon either...Argh! I really thought she'd be here before the due date...still a few days to go though! Anyways, I hope everything goes well with Stephanie. I'll let you know when my little girl makes an entrance too.

ClaireC - Sunday, 13 Jan
Yay...Congratulations on the birth of your little girl! Wow, you're home already! So glad to hear that you and bub are fine....but I must say that I am a little jealous - we're due the same day...dying for it to be my turn! Haaa! Can't wait to see photos, stay in touch! Claire xo.

indelible - Monday, 7 Jan
You said it perfectly on 37 weeks! It is miserable but we only have a few more weeks (if that) and we really should try to enjoy it. I just recently changed my attitude to a positive one because it was getting me down being so miserable but now . . . well I'm learning the real meaning of patience and trying to enjoy my last feel days of independance. Take care.

ClaireC - Thursday, 3 Jan
Hi, Great to hear from you. How are you? I'm going great....excited that our due date is creeping closer and closer! I know the bub will come when she is ready but I am hoping she is ready before my due date...I really don't want to go over 40 weeks...I'm so looking forward to meeting her and starting a new life as a family!! My Blood Glucose tests came back fine...who knows why I had a high reading the day before...oh well! Haaa...thats funny that your doc found white cells in your urine today coz my doc found the same thing yesterday. And since I'm not having any stinging, he said not to worry but he did send the urine sample off to be tested. I haven't gained anymore weight over the past 2 weeks but I'm still feeling HUGE. I've gained a total of 23kg, but most of it is fluid and swelling...so hopefully most of that will fall off when bub is born...well, fingers crossed anyway :-) I can't wait to see pics of your little baby once she arrives. Take care, Claire xo.

rhiannon nichole - Friday, 28 Dec
still contracting but i can stand them so im waiting to go in. they have slwoed down a lil and now its just the waiting game! ill keep you posted...

margiemom - Thursday, 27 Dec
mine are worse than ever this time around, i only have occasional bleeding as i eat alot of apples and stuff to keep things going. how undignified this whole thing is.....

margiemom - Wednesday, 26 Dec
hey have u tried witch hazel for your hemrrhoids.it really helps me alot, i get gauze pads and put them in a plastic bowl, and poour witch hazel in it and leave them in the fridge, and then when i have some time to lie down, i get one and cover the offender and leave it for a while. it really helps the itching and helps to shrink them.

Sandy - Monday, 24 Dec
Hey Char!

Long time no chat :) So glad to see you are doing well, it seems like yesterday that we were all at 8 weeks!!
We are so near now :)

Please tell, me was it hard being pregnant twice in such a short time? We are both joking about having a baby sister/brother by christmas next yr ;) I'm stuck between waiting a few years and having them close in age.

i'd appreciate your advice. my email add is admin.pawpaw@gmail.com I've had problems with getting online with i-am-pregnant.com so i've been chatting through my mail rather.

keep well.

ClaireC - Tuesday, 18 Dec
Hello Hello, How are you? Thanks for your response on the forum in regards to mucous plug. You said that you lost your plug with your son and then had him the next day - how far along were you? Were you full-term? My Mum said that she lost her plug with my brother (her 1st preg) at 34weeks and then had him at 37weeks. I'd be happy to have our little girl at 37weeks - I've always had a feeling that she'd come early! But I don't really want to have her before x-mas. We're ready for her but I'd like her to cook for a few more weeks :-) So how have you been feeling? I have a sore throat but am really enjoying being at home and being able to relax and sleep-in each morning! Your 34 week belly pics look great - your belly looks like about the same size as mine! But I've seemed to have gained a lot of extra weight everywhere else! Take care, Claire xo.
