My son is the greatest thing ever!! I have enjoyed being his mom. He gets bigger and stronger and smarter everyday. He is the greatest accomplishment and journey of my life.

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body."

IT'S A BOY!!!
Again! Neither of my pregnancies were planned. I'm apparently not so good with that whole birth control thing. As I write this I am 19+ weeks pregnant. My son is 10 months old. His dad is an idiot. Hasnt been around or supported my son in any way. I am a 26 year old single mommy to 1.5 kids (one born, one still cookin'). The father of my to-be-born child is kind of a moron as well. Try explaining your feelings to someone who speaks broken english! He's from Mexico. So now I'm just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation. But don't fret, I'm getting an IUD put in after this baby :)

About Your Pregnancy:

Your name?: Cassandra Lee, DUH!

Fathers name?: Oswaldo

Are you still with him?: No, but we still have a great relationship.

Is this your first pregnancy?: No, a miscarriage 8 years ago and a 9mo. old son

What are your fears?: The future. How will I be the main caregiver for 2 very young children

What are you most happy about?: Meeting this baby. Falling in love with another child

Did you want a boy or girl?: Girl

What did the father want boy or girl?: Girl

Were you trying to get pregnant?: Hell no! I just got done being pregnant!

When you found out? Sometime in May

Where did you find out?: At work. I had a feeling I was pregnant and I told 2 co-workers of mine who are also good friends of mine and one of them, Brandi, went to the drug store and got me the test.

How far along were you?: Im not sure

What was your reaction?: I wasnt really surprised since I kind of already knew. But I wasnt really happy about it

Who was the first person you told?: My friends, then the dad

How did you tell the father?: I called him and told him to meet me at my desk and I told him.

What was his reaction?: I knew he would be happy because he always talked about wanting a baby sometime soon

How did your parents react?: My mom was annoyed. I havent gotten the nerve up to tell my dad yet..EEK!

When is your due date?: December 31st, but I'll have my c-section on December 22nd

What were your first symptoms?: Extreme exhaustion. Thats always my first pregnancy symptom

Did you have any morning sickness?: Very little, only nausa

Do you know what your having?: Hopefully I will soon. I think it's a girl.

Do you have a name picked out?: Didnt you see that episode of Sex and The City? I'm not telling you!

How much weight have you gained?: 6 pounds to date

Do you have stretch marks?: I have left over ones

Have you felt the baby move?: RIGHT NOW! Shes a night owl like mommy!

Have you heard the heartbeat?: Yes

Home or hospital birth?: It would be sweet if I could have my c-section at home. Im sure my DR. wont go for that though!

Are you excited about the birth, or scared?: I'm scared about trying to raise 2 kids by myself!

What do you think will be the worst part of labor?: The smell of my burnt flesh as they laser me open!

Have you taken any classes?: I did not that long ago, so I probably wont

Who will be in the delivery room?: Oswaldo and my mom

Will you breastfeed?: I intend to

Do you think you'll need a c-section?: Unless this baby weighs less then 6 pounds I will have to

Are you having the birth videotaped?: Yes. I wish I would have had a camcorder for my sons birth

Will you cry when you hold the baby for the first time?: I KNOW I will.

What's the first thing you might say to him/her?: Probably something like "Hi Baby, Happy Birthday"

What do you think the fathers reaction to the baby will be?: Hopefully it will be good!

How do you think family and friends will feel?: Hopefully they will give me lots of money and watch my babies all the time!! :D Nah, they will be good about it. They're pretty decent people

Aiden John Lee

Aww, my tears of joy. My son was finally here. I finally heard his beautiful, healthy cries. Waiting to see him...

thanks for you comment on my in-law question, its nice to see im not the only one dealing with this.
its just hurtful when one will promise they will do something, not do it, and then we are left explaining to our daughter (and soon we will have to explain to our baby) why so-and so didnt show up. they promise out 6 year old so many things and almost never deliver, often with extremely lame excuses.
i know i should just expect nothing, and if they do come through once in a while, i should treat it as a bonus.
thanks for being supportive,
kate

 LOL. I LOVE THIS PIC!

APRILRAINE - Tuesday, 21 October
I dont know for sure yet but Carl and I have the *feeling* that I am having another girl, though everyone else wants me to have a boy. I can't for the life of me find a middle name for a boy or a micmac middle name (I am micmac and want them to have a part of their heritage in their name) Gidjets I found straight off and couldn't find a name for a boy, and I have found a girl one, but for boys names I am completely lost. So maybe I will have a girl instead of a nameless boy!

APRILRAINE - Tuesday, 21 October
Isn't it weird?? Gidjet was the most easy going, laid back baby anyone could imagine, there is NO WAY the next one will be that calm, LOL. Everyone keeps saying that it'll be great and that the love with grow. So I think I'll just not worry for now, and enjoy my pregnancy, but still the thought will linger in the back of my mind till he or she actually gets here. I just keep telling myself that if Gidjet is so loving and calm and easy going she will make such a great big sister, and helper. Your son is so cute by the way! do you know what you're having this time around?

LMFAO im reading the responses to my medication poll, you really annoyed a lot of people!! no one likes to be told do they? lol

kater - Friday, 17 October
yes, i really think women have been frightened into thinking their bodys arnt capable of birthing babies, and its funny, in most 1st world countrys, it is actually safer to have a home birth than go to hospital. it would be nice if interventions were used only when necessary, rather than for the convenience of the staff... i know though, after experiencing both a medicated and unmedicated birth, un medicated left me with such a feeling of accomplishment, as crazy as it sounds, i felt really proud that i had gone through the birth process. i know now why women say you forget the pain, and its because you get on this amazing high, it really does block out the pain!! after my first birth though, i felt so disconnected from the whole process, birth was something that happened TO me rather than something i had DONE if you can understand that.
though, after reading about VBACs, there is no way id attempt one :)

kater - Friday, 17 October
yep we women (as a group) certainly underestimate ourselves! i had my first birth with gas, then pethidine, then pitocin (as they told me i wasnt fast enough) then an epidural. i had a horrid experience, and had PND which i atribute at least in part to my birth. skip forward 5 years, and i had a medication free birth, which i badly wanted, and the whole experience was so totally different, night and day. i feel so positive about birth id have a hundred babys now. i just wonder why women have lost confidence to do what millions of women have done since year dot. i mean why can we save medical intervention for when its needed? we have come so far with technology, but its like doctors see it as a new toy they enjoy playing with, and use the drugs because they are there, rather than because they are necessary. i think my first birth would have much better, had i not been talked into the drugs i took

kater - Friday, 17 October
lol, i love the answer to my medicated birth poll!! out of curiosity, how do you choose to birth?

I would like to do missionary work in other areas too, but not if it means not going to Africa as well. It will basically be a matter of monies that we can raise and time. I was hoping to go do some work in Chile at the beginning of the year, but I was also trying to get pregnant at the time, and wasn't sure how well the two would mix (as it turned out I would've been sick + in my first trimester, so I'm glad I decided not to go!).
I've found that people in our general age range seem to be very interested in pop-culture and celebrity 'news', at the expense of paying attention to what is actually going on in the world. As much as the information is out there, and the opportunity to be involved and concerned, it's easier to ignore it, and focus on self, possessions, really trivial garbage. Certainly not everyone needs to be passionate about the same issues as I, but at least be informed about something that matters! Eh, it probably is easier to not care, and not have to know about things like child armies and famine.

MelissaJoanne - Sunday, 12 October
about Kenya: we did go there as missionaries. We work with a group based out of Nairobi called City Harvest. They have their hands in many different amazing projects and programs, and we're happy to go along with whatever they're doing. So in and around Nairobi and the slums there we worked with an support group of women that have all been widowed by AIDS, and left with the disease and many children to take care of. They make and sell a variety of crafts to support their families. City Harvest also has a confidential AIDS/HIV testing center. In Kenya your health status is public record, and if you test positive for HIV or AIDS (if you don't find out confidentially) your employer will be informed, you'll lose your job, likely be unable to find other employment, be unable to afford medicine and support your family. So, for the most part it's sadly in a person's best interest to not find out, and thus the disease spreads. It's sad. There needs to be more opportunities for safe and confidential testing and treatment.
We also visited with a remote tribe that was about a 2 day drive from Nairobi. We camped out with them for several days. while they stood guard for the lions and jackals in the area. We were the first Americans ever in that part of the world, and only a handful of the tribe was old enough to have seen a white person before (some British missionaries once came in the '50s). They are thankfully so remote as to be untouched by AIDS, but certainly have a wealth of other problems, namely a lack of water. They had on ancient water pump, shared by hundreds of people and animals for bathing and drinking. We helped to raise much money to build them several new water pumps. They're also in need of health care and education (they don't have a written language, and the nearest hospital would be a several day walk for them). Additionally they're at war with a neighboring tribe in Uganda, whom the week before our arrival had stormed in with AK47s (the Kenyan tribe has only spears + bows) and gunned down a number of them to steal their cattle, which is their only form of currency. So, we snuck into Uganda at this one point along the border with no official border crossing, met up with the Ugandan army (that was a little scary, especially as they were completely drunk), and met with the warring tribe. I managed to hold several complete conversations in my limited Swahili. It was an adventure indeed.
So, I wouldn't take a baby along for quite all of that. That's just touching on some of what we did in Kenya, some more dangerous than other. All of it was fascinating and rewarding. I'm really itching to go back. I think that babies can have yellow fever vaccinations at 9 months, which would work out since we want to go when she'll be around 10 months. I have to look into the malaria pills though, and when that will be okay for a baby.
a little about opera: My college degree in in vocal performance of opera. I haven't been in a show recently, in my state of preggo-ness. I did continue to teach voice lessons until fairly recently, and I still sang at church every week until going on my maternity leave from that about 2 weeks ago. I sing all the time. The baby usually calms right down when I'm singing, which is impressive because it's veeeery high and very loud! The vibrations probably feel pretty cool in there though. I miss really performing, and I'm not sure when I will again. I'll probably take on more students in the nearish future post baby having. We have a studio area in our apartment where I can teach without disrupting baby or husband. I'll definitely sing at church and take on random solo gigs (weddings and whatnot). My voice hasn't changed too much. It's a bit scratchy right now since the pregnancy is currently causing acid reflux, but that will go away soon. My ob/gyn and lamaze teacher think that I should do fairly well in labor because I have such good and steady deep breathing from the singing, and from teaching workout classes (yoga-type stuff). I hope they're right!
Phew. There's some of the story for you. I look more interesting in print than I feel right now, since lately my days are spent sitting on the couch with cats, being very pregnant! It gives me hope that I can be interesting again someday.
