We found out we were pregnant in June. I took a pregnancy test 2 times and it was very positive both times. Everyone was very happy to find out we were pregnant. Everything went well in the first Trimester except for a little scare. I had some bleeding but an ultrasound showed the baby is all fine and the bleeding was outside my cervix. Doc says because there is soo much blood being pumped down there for the baby, I have more viens and caps there and one of them ruptured which caused the bleeding. The second trimester was the best. I wasnt too big and uncomfortable but I was big enough that people knew i was pregnant. Plus it was the first time I actually felt my baby. That was the best. The 3rd trimester was the most the worst for me. I could handle the morning sickness in the 1st trimester but in the 3rd, I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I was also on bed rest for a week because of a preterm labor scare. They found my cervix to be open at 33 weeks and doctor wanted the baby to stay in until 34 weeks at least. Hence why I was on bed rest. Being on bed rest made my sugars go all crazy. I was able to control my sugars with diet and exercise. But without the exercise, my sugars went up a little. Lucky, the diabetes doctor didnt think it went up enough to put me on insulin and I was measuring just right, not to big or too small. On New Year's Eve the doctor called and said I could party it all I want (I was 34 weeks that day) and I am officially off of bed rest. Doctor says walk all I want to control my sugars. They wont stop me from going into labor if i do go in early. But Emily held on until 38 weeks. I thought I was going to be over due but she decided to come into the world without medical help.

With all that, at the end it was all worth it. I gave birth naturally on Jan 26, 2008 to a beautiful baby Girl Emily. It all went fast too. All together 5 hours from my water breaking to Emily coming out. The hardest part was pushing. I pushed for 2 1/2 hours. =(

Oh, I know. My husband loves children. He said if we could afford it we would have ten! However, this was when we first met. A bit ambitious he is.

Yes, now he holds me like a baby (smiles). He is very, very affectionate and gets so goofy with kids.

He is a wonderful father already.

Smiles,

Debora :-)

Indeed girls are sweet. My husband said he just wanted a little him. It simply broker my heart to hear him say this as I love him so much. That 's why were routing for a son.

Our marriage is so new and I am just learning tons of things about compromise.

Although, I will be happy with whatever the sex is.

Smiles,

Debora

thank you so much for sharing your story and your support -- it's so good to hear from someone who had been in this position. this whole bf thing has been a real journey! i'm very glad I did it and got thru those first 8 weeks, but I think the time has come to give my little one more food than I can produce. i'm happy to know that we can still bond over formula and I hope we are both, like you and your daughter, happier and less stressed!! :)

first-time-mami - Thursday, 3 April
so i took him to the dr we had to see another dr since his dr is on vacation. and he said... get him a humidifier to help with the congestion and as for the gases just burp him! ugh! i could have told myself that!!! he said nothing really helps with gases just burping hm... time to go find the home remedies that have always worked! :) i will have an appt with my regular dr see if he can gvie me something?

first-time-mami - Thursday, 3 April
thanks for your input on my issue LOL i should make an appointment with my dr then hopefully i can get something? but question.. which dr to go to? my ob or my regular dr? my lil one is now taking about 3.5 oz every 3 hrs and i'm only pumping 1 oz every 2 hrs! so i have no choice but to supplement now :( and it's VERY hard for him to poop now i feel bad for the little guy cuz he wines and cries we're going to his dr tomorrow let's see what they tell us...

niseybear - Thursday, 27 Mar
I agree with the other ladies about your baby's poop. I've noticed my son only poops about once a day if even that now that I supplement a lot more than I did before. I still breastfeed at night and early mornings of course and once throughout the afternoon. And the odor of his poop has definitely changed since I formula feed more....WOW! LOL Everything you're experiencing is normal!

Thanks for the message.. my doc told me it is ok for this week for my sugars to go a bit high.. only my dinners are a concern because they can get a bit high and I usually have to walk it off a bit to get within the normal range.. she said to give it a week than I can slowly pace myself but if I feel anything to stop and relax.. the pills aid in stopping my uterus from contracting but the cramps are what is annoying.. I get them frequent throughout the day and at night but I am doing everything in my power to keep my legs elevated and laying down. With my first daughter I was contracting but mistaken them as the BH I had no bloody show with her or any cramps and I was about the end of my 7th month with her 2 cm dilated.. I rested and had her at 37 weeks and 4 days.. this one I had the show and all the things associated with labor except my water has not broke which I am happy about.. I have this feeling though that it will be soon.. just something my body is telling me.. but I am praying she just 'bakes in the oven' a little more before making her grand appearance.. thanks again for the message I will update with any changes on my page.

I'm currently breast feeding my daughter. But when my son was a baby, I had to switch from breast feeding to formula and from what I remember, everything you're experiencing is normal. The poop will smell much more than it did from breast milk. And the frequency of a bm often decreases with formula.

FirstTimeMommy08 - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hi....I started feeding my little guy formula at two weeks because of breastfeeding difficulties. He ended up getting really constipated on the formula...it was iron fortified so we had to switch to a formula with a little less iron. We also had to give him suppositories 3 different times...in the morning he got an ounce of prune juice in his bottle and at night he got an ounce of camomile tea..spelling? this went on for about 3 weeks and now finally he is having normal poops. I guess they're normal anyways...they're like a greenish yellow color and they are smelly! He'll go anywhere from once to three times a day! He'll be eight weeks this saturday...and he's also my first :) Hope this helps!!

lindyloo - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Yes bubs poo sounds normal, formula fed babies should have 1 poo a day, the reason your bub had the episode of pooing a lot was because there body takes time to adjust to the formula, it's the same if you switch formulas, bub might become constipated or like my daughter go 5+ times a day, it's usually a yellow colour and yes it stinks!! But once their bodies get used to it poos should return to normal but they do stay stinky!!!

Hi Cindy, thank you sooooo much for leaving a message on my page about GD I'm still so in the dark about it all and I think the not knowing makes it scary. I loved your comments about chocolate though and told my hubby what you wrote he and I had a good chuckle. You are wonderful helping others that are just finding out they have GD understand it a bit better by offering reassurance. Once I know what I can and Can't eat I'll feel heaps better as was pretty tired today but seeing a dietitian for the first time this Friday hope all goes well and hopefully I don't need shots but thank you once again for your support and taking the time to help me out. Hope all is well with you too, Kel

that is good to know about the ketones.. my doc told me when I go for my appointment at high risk they may have me check them as well.. but in the meantime I will continue to check my sugars.. I rather be safe than sorry.. I wish the days flew by sooner so I can get to my next appointment but that won't happen lol. So far my levels have been good I am pleased and if I begin to feel weird or sick I will go to the ER. Thanks for all this information!

~NyMom - Wednesday, 20 Feb
hey there.. I have a question.. I am getting my kit today but my classes for the monitoring system doesn't start till monday.. something is telling me to begin before monday.. I am confused.. were you faced with that option before? should I test on my own will or wait?

~NyMom - Monday, 18 Feb
So only a 1/2 a cup of milk? I want to make sure I think the cup I drank out of was approx a one cup.. by the way how do you count the carbs? on the package of the food product where it says carbohydrates? and do the count the sugar too.. lol that part confused me.. I guess I am suppose to count the carbs. Thanks so much for your knowledge on this.. you have made it easier for me this weekend.

~NyMom - Monday, 18 Feb
ok I see what you are saying.. right now I am watching my carbs.. like when I have dinner I have a cup of rice loaded with fresh steamed veggies and meat on the side.. but I try my best to not eat up all the rice just enough .. my doctor told me not to stop the carbs because I still need them.. it is the quantity ..and I stay away from the soda.. I use to have one glass f soda per day now that is over with.. better that I drink water and natural fruit juices.. when I got hungry the other night I had a slice of wheat bread with peanut butter folded it in half and enjoy that snack.. is it ok to drink milk? I drink lowfat lactose free milk because I cannot tolerate whole milk.. I did have a large un breaded chicken salad with a dash of olive oil and a splash of vingarette.. I don't like using store bought salads anyway so guess thats a plus. I pray these little few days pass so the doc shows me where I need to stand and the dietician can tell me what is what... Do you think those little Goldfish snacks are healthy?

~NyMom - Saturday, 16 Feb
Thank you so much for the comment and experience you have been through.. I am still learning about this and super glad with the feedback I have been recieving.. let me ask you this.. is it ok to have something small to eat at night? on some nights I find myself hungry and just wndering if a small portion of a meal is ok.. I don't get to see the dietician till next week so I am a bit in the woods with this information.

Congratz on your pregnancy.

eCCAbOO - Sunday, 16 Dec
i wasn't eating a bedtime snack because i thought if i did my fasting sugar levels would be high/higher. so i will try what you suggested. also, thanks so much for all your help. it's so hard going from eating anything, to being so restricted. hope you are doing well.

eCCAbOO - Friday, 14 Dec
thank you SO much!! today is the first day that i am actually testing my levels. my a.m. fasting was high at 117 then after breakfast it was like 109, then after lunch it was 84. i don't know if that's good or not but at least i'm not high, well, except for the fasting. ugh. can't wait till this is over!! :) thanks again and good luck with your first baby!!
