hey Chick hows it going?

The whole induction thing for the convience of a doctor doesnt sound at all right to me. Babys signal (via hormones) to the mother when they are ready to come out, which in turn starts labour. Induction should only overide this natural process when there is an absolute need for it. I'm sure you're baby would be okay at that time. But it won't actually be ready to come out, unless it has sparked labour off naturally. It all seems a bit wrong to me. There is no way that would happen here in the UK as a routine situation, it would have to be very late or an emergency situation. I would ask for a second opinion if I were you.

Good luck

Hi Chicky, just saw your post in week 37. Personally, I would not be scheduling an induction for the convenience of the doctor / because they are not available around your due date. Although of course everyone's experience is different, I was induced with my first, it was an extremely painful experience where there was no break between contractions, and I went from 0 - 10cm in like 60-90 minutes > which caused my baby to go into distress, and led to further intervention of cut and forceps. With my first pregnancy, I had not done any research, this time I have done lots of reading and found that sure enough, once you start the intervention (induction), it is very likely you will need further assistance (like a cut, forceps, suction cap) to get baby out. That being said, I was induced last time because I was 41 weeks, and 0 dilation. So, if that happens again (gosh, I hope not) I would probably have an induction again > I just don't think I would at 37 weeks. Good luck with your decision, hun!! Whatever you decide will be right for you and your situation, be confident with that

Don't let your doctor induce you for his convenience. Induction should not even be considered unless the baby is waaayy past the due date, or if it stops growing and needs to come out. A lot of problems can occur with induction because it makes stronger contractions which could lead to fetal distress, which could end up in a c-section. It's best to let your baby come when it's ready, even if it's at an inconvenient time for your doctor or you.

I know. It is hear to believe. Wayne said this morning that he had a dream of my belly and said "look everyone my wife is pregnant" LOL! he is so excited and so am I. This is the best thing that ever happened to us. :o)

7 weeks till I take my maternity leave. YEAH!!!!!!!

mumsie26 - Friday, 22 August
yes definatly the baby is fine born then as its before 37 weeks that babies are more likely not to have sucking reflex or lungs need a little longer to mature etc.. but i personally have wanted andwaited for 37 weeks as i know this is a sfe stage for baby.don`t worry tho..and good luck

mumsie26 - Friday, 22 August
as you are actually classed as full term at 37 weeks then it should be safe for baby to be delivered then.
i guess this is on medical grounds? if it is then fine but if there is no reason to be induced then you can refuse ,your choice.
a baby at this stage has a good chance of surviving outside the womb in fact lots of babies are born around that time and are fine.

mich - Friday, 22 August
Hey it will be fine to have your baby at 37, he'll be fully developed. As long as your doc says YOU and BABY are in good health go with it that's great! I had my first baby at 36 weeks and thank God he was healthy as could be:) GOOD LUCK
