My Birth Story....
Tuesday 7/10/07 I had my doctors appt. (38wks 4 days). I was still 2-3 cm and 80% effaced. I had already been scheduled for induction on Wednesday 7/11/07 due to the doctor thinking he was going to be a big baby. I checked in at 7:00 am on Wednesday morning and they found I was already contracting when they hooked me to the monitors. I had been feeling them for the last several days before delivery but they were not consistant. The doctor was suprised I was having such a good contraction pattern but they weren't strong enough. They started pitocin and within approx. 1 hour I was really feeling them. I had planned to have the epidural but was going to wait until I really felt like I needed it so I could atleast experience what real labor pain was like. Wow, I didn't know back labor could be so bad! They checked me again at approx. 9:30 am and I was still 2-3cm dilated and 80% effaced. I kept feeling like I had to pee really bad about evey 15minutes and by the fourth or fifth time up to the bathroom at 10:15am my water broke while on the toilet. Not a huge gush but enough to know I wasn't peeing, and it continued to leak until delivery. The contractions picked up immediately after my water broke and at about 11:00am I opted for the epidural as my back labor was unbearable. They had trouble with the epidural and had to place it twice which was very painful but worth it in the end. I was so happy after it started working I almost cried it felt so good. I fell asleep almost instantly and they decided to check me 2 hrs later (2:ooish) and I was now 5 cm. I went back to sleep and approx. 1 hour later at 3:oopm I started to feel extreme pressure and pain in my tailbone and crotch area with each contraction. It was really strong even though I had an epidural. The nurse decided to check me again and I was 9.5cm dilated!!! The doctor had not even planned on coming back to see me until 5:30 so the nurse ran out and called the doctor who was there in a matter of minutes. She checked me again and I was a full 10 and ready to push. I pushed for about 20 minutes, maybe 6 cycles of three pushes and there he was at 3:50 pm, my not so big 7lb 5.5 oz 19.25 in. baby boy! It was amazing!! I couldn't have asked for a better labor. It was awesome even with the pain. I feel so lucky. So all in all I labored for only about 5 hrs total! And the majority was realtively pain free. I only had a second degree tear, which isn't bad at all, just a skin tear, that required some stitches. Right after he was placed on my belly I delivered the placenta almost immediately, so it all went very very quick. I felt wonderful after the birth, I was starving! I came home 7/13/07 and am feeling great. I feel so fortunate to have had such an easy delivery and my beautiful baby boy!
Hi, my name is Christine and my husband Scott and I are expecting our first baby, and it's a Boy! We are so excited for this baby to get here. We tried for a year and a half before getting pregnant and unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Three months later we got pregnant again and we are expecting our baby boy in July!
